I'm thinking of joining Costco, mainly because I've heard great things about their birthday cakes (price & taste). Does anyone know if they have the character kits (ie. Mickey, Barbie, etc.)? I know that BJ's has some cake kits, but we never renewed our membership at BJ's, plus Costco is closer.

Feel free to add your suggestion for the best type of frosting on Costco cakes :goodvibes

Thanks!

They don't any character kits there. They have a generic princess and a few other things, but the pictures overall are pretty lame!

I like the chocolate cake with the cholate mousse and white buttercream on top. DH prefers white cake with strawberry mousse and white buttercream.

Not sure on the kits, but they do have incredible cakes!! I bought one for my twins' 3rd birthday there last year, even though it was only for 6 of us. They're just too good and too cheap to pass up. And their strawberry mousse filling is awesome!!!

Our family absolutely loves Costco's cakes but they don't have too many options for decorating. One option I found was to find a local cake store that would print the edible icing pics for me. I can give them any photo and they put it on a sheet of edible ink that transfers onto the cake. If you get a cake from Costco you can then add your own photo in an empty spot. The transfers aren't cheap but they are fun and really personalize the cake.

Our membership expired so I had my mom pick up two cakes for us from Sams for my dd's party today. They were not nearly as good as the Costco ones we are used to.

We adore Costco cakes. Soooo good. We usually get the carrot cake with apricot mousse and cream cheese icing. the almonds are the best part. I would like to try the strawberry mousse. We are boring and alwasy get carrot though. We don't have any little kids in the family, so usually just opt for the roses.
The cakes are the only reason we keep the membership.

The decorating is pretty generic, but who cares! Once it is sliced, no one remembers what the decorations were anyway.

The cakes are delicious, and the last cake I bought there fed 20 people for (approximately) $15.00.

The chocolate cake with the cream cheese filling gets my vote. I am really not a chocolate cake person normally, but this one is to die for! Every time we have a party everyone makes sure that we have the cake! I once bought a cake for DS's birthday somewhere else (he wanted a Star Wars cake) and even though it looked really nice it didn't taste nearly as good. Everyone (even DS) made me promise to get the Costco one from now on!

love..love..love.. the Costco cake... $15 for a full sheet... I always bu y the plain designs for birthday....and for Character decorations... I use the PVC that you buy from Disney Store... which was great coz if you want Princess' they have PVC for that... from Pirates to Cars... and thenI just buy some of the cake decor or doll house plastic furniture to add for decor... Last one I did was the nemo one and you can buy sugar cut outs that comes in color .. I got the blue ones to make it cut it in a pond shape and all that... hope this helps....

I just add additional decoration. I will pick up a princess cake this friday and I am going to add some unicorn horses and some chocolate sprinkles and hersey kissables.

I agree with the others about adding your own decorations. Costco cakes can't be beat for size and price. There is a lot of cake to them which makes them able to feed a lot of people. Plus, they are so yummy!

When my DS (16) turned 3, he was totally into monster trucks. I bought one of the chocolate off the shelf Costco cakes and broght it home , scraped off the flowers and took canned frosting and made hills and put monster trucks all over it. Turned out great. He loved it.

The carrot cake is delicious!

The cakes are wonderful! It's the only place my kids will let me get birthday cakes from. I take whatever is leftover and put it on paper plates, then slip them into a gallon size ziploc bag, and stick them in the freezer...then we just thaw them out whenever we're in the mood for cake and it's just as good as the day we bought it.
