Conversation between DH and I last night...

Me: Babe, when the new DCL ships come out and...

DH: No.

Me: But I'd really like to try one of the new...

DH: No.

Me: What if I find a not-so-bad rate?

DH: Not interested. I don't want to sail on DCL ever again. Go with your friends.

Me: I tried to convince them but they chose RCCL!

DH: I'm not going with you. I was bored to death the last time.

... Sounds like I'll do a solo cruise within the next 4 years. :cool2:

(Kidding.)

(Or am I? ;) )

EDIT: He changed his mind. He'll come with me. :)

...when the husband is away, the mouse will play...with another Mouse?? Go for it! We have been seated for dinner with a number of single folks, mostly...well all, women. Of our eight DCL cruises, three have been without kids/gkids. Plenty to see and do. We are looking at booking an inaugural cruise on one of the new ships (did it with the Fantasy). I can't wait to see what creative touches the Mouse has in mind...3D holograms, virtual excursions, etc.?? Cruise on...

I'm glad my wife doesn't have to do that with me.

My wife- Let's go to WDW again.
Me- Ok
Wife - Can we do a Disney Cruise as well.
Me- We've never done one.
Wife- But it will be fun.
Me- I'm in!

A match made in heaven. Mickey and Minnie ain't got nothing on us. :rotfl:

It's usually the same for DH and I but he really doesn't agree with DCL's pricing (me neither but with a 100% new bigger ship, I'm a little bit more flexible)...

I've pushed the idea of a solo cruise to my husband and suddenly, he wants to come too. :P

That being said... Would love DCL to add a few solo cabins for our solo friends...

I loved the size of the Dream so the idea of a bigger ship with new things to do has all my attention.
This is one thing that I think the entire industry could do better. I do know that some of the NCL ships seem to have a good solo setup, but no so much the others...

i'm pretty sure my DH would like me to stop talking about cruising in general.... lol. that said he will take any cruise on any line, which is pretty awesome!

This pretty much sums it up for us as well. DH has learned to tolerate my obsession with all types of vacation planning (not just cruises) as it leads to great fun in the end for all of us. But he does have to sit through my numerous options / scenarios / spreadsheet comparisons, etc. etc. Sometimes I suspect he's trained himself to doze off with his eyes open :goodvibes. After 34 years of marriage, you just do what ya gotta do!!

My husband and I have only done one DCL cruise. We are going to be 50 this year - not that it matters - just background. DH is not a gambler but loves trying new things and meeting new people so the lounge and the bars/tastings were a great way to "shoot the crap" with people. He loves to talk to military service people since he is a Marine. Once a Marine always a Marine- he says. Well our cruise was only 3 days and not nearly long enough. We had an awesome cabin/suite -room 12000 on the Dream. We spend so much time out there that we did not do as much as I wanted to do. I played the bingo a couple of times, we did the tasting with a cruise group from FB. it was fun and i really want to go back but he is iffy.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that another cruise line is offering single cabins on one of their newer ships. I can't remember which line it was, though - maybe Celebrity or RCCL?? But yes, the NCL solo set up seems pretty nice if you can handle a small inside cabin. I'm pretty claustrophobic, so I don't think it would be a good fit for me. For anyone without that phobia, it can be a great way to travel solo. They have a solo lounge just for those cabins and have a host that tries to organize group activities. I have read on CC that the solo cabins are so popular that the prices rise quickly and they can end up being more expensive than a regular inside paying the single supplement as those don't sell as well.

There is definitely a market for solo cabins, and it will be interesting to see if Disney goes that route with the new ships. Their target market will always be families, but even now they often end up offering discounts to fill the ships during times when school is in session. With three more ships on the horizon and more cabins to fill, I suspect we will see a few more adult oriented offerings - at least I hope so. I don't see them ever going the casino route (fine by me, we don't gamble), but even just adding a few solo cabins would encourage more adults to sail without children. Time will tell.

I'm changing jobs next year (the firm will close) so this is why I am aiming for a 3 nights. If I can afford more, than I'll be extremely grateful. :)

3 nights cruises are short but I'm a scheduling champion and we usually keep (very) busy (wall-to-wall). I'm sure we're going to make the best out of that long week-end. :)

Okay I have so far spared my DH the spreadsheet comparisons although great idea to keep in mind :D We are at 14 years of marriage this year and I've only been obsessing about vacations for about the last 4-5 years, having young kids and all. I'm glad to hear the tolerance is still there after 34 years!

The new Virgin ship has both inside and verandah solos. I think as cruising changes, the ship will too. I think for many years most cruisers were either older couples or young people who took short party cruises. Now, as cruising has increased in popularity there are more offerings for families and solos who want a non-party experience.

Sometimes I sit and think, "Other people do this, right?" ... It's comforting to know that I'm not alone!

Maybe my DW can start a support group (perhaps a DIS board???) with your DH and all the other spouses that put up with us ;)

Only if they are larger than the coffins the studio cabins other lines have. No way am I subjecting myself to that. I will happily pay more for a more decent sized cabin.

I have never visited studios so I can't compare. I live in a tiny house so I guess my tolerance to small spaces is greater than most people...

Can't you pick the kind of cabin you want when you sail solo? I mean, chose between a studio and a regular cabin?
