Hi there, we've just booked to stay at Contemporary Resort for next year (changed from Frt Wilderness cabins)!! Opposite end of the theming spectrum I know. Anyway all that was available was the standard garden wing view and the very desirable but very expensive theme park views which are out of our budget sadly. So I'm thinking from what I've been researching that we'll be looking at the car park and some monorail....but is this always the case? Is there hope of something else....some water perhaps?

We had this category before and booked it again this year. The view was fine for us, we looked out and could see part of the monorail and not much else, but it was still a pleasant view, grass, bushes, etc. On the opposite side, they did have some water views. What I enjoyed most, was being able to walk around at night and see the fireworks and also the light show on the lake at night.

I think there are about 12 rooms which are classified as standard view in the middle of the garden wing building. In these rooms you are looking right against a tiled wall.

Just take a look at google maps. Zoom in to the part of the garden wing that is farthest away from main building. On the backside of it there are two rooms on each floor and each side which face the vertical center part of the garden wing.

I stayed in this room category in April. We looked on to the parking lot, but could see the top half of the castle to the right and to the left could see the waterway and electrical parade. We could not see the fireworks. We thought the view was fine for the price paid. Walking to MK was AMAZING! If I plan a more MK based trip in the future, I'd book the same hotel and room category in the future. I thought it was a good value for the money. Again, there is nothing like walking to MK, so don't worry about the view and enjoy!

@tgarre06 I totally agree with you. We just checked out of garden wing standard view (ground floor / patio / loved watching monorail go by) on Monday (then went to Beach Club, now at Riverside for a week) and we loved it. It was awesome value- tons of space! Loved the layout of the room. So spacious and the beds were really comfortable. We loved the 10 -15 minute walk to the MK and the garden wing rooms are the closest to the pool. We used the pool every day, so this was great for us. We also found this area very quiet - plus we got the bigger shampoo / conditioner bottles and 1L Dasani water bottles (same as people paying a lot more for a view). We will book this category again for sure.

Yes, I totally forgot about the toiletries too! Loved the toothbrush kit and higher end shampoo/conditioner/etc. Plus the water bottle was a nice touch! I didn't get those at the Polynesian. Wow, I forgot how much I liked that room, we are going to have to stay there again! :)
Bitbonkers, great step up from the cabins. Go and enjoy, I'm jealous!

I have stayed at the CR many times. It is our favorite resort hands down. I try to book the standard views because my son loves to watch the monorail. Additionally, you will get gorgeous sunsets if you are at your room at that time.

Thanks everyone for your replies, I know we'll enjoy all the Contemporary has to offer whatever our view may be. We can't wait to be able to walk to and from MK, usually we stay at OKW so this will feel like a completely different holiday for us. Water you say? What they give the guests water in the rooms?

You will get a 1L bottle of Dasani. Nice touch!

No not always the case since it is the stated view. At Disney there is always hope but just don't "expect" more.

Since this is the lowest booking class, it gets you the same room as any other standard guest room in the CR just not the same view. Over the years, we have be provided a better room/view as "pixie dust" on about 30% of our stays. As you move up the booking room class there will be a smaller and smaller pool of rooms that "Could" be provided based on the room availability, the day's occupancy and any maintenance issues factor into the "pixie dust".

Ourlaughigplace, off topic, but how do you like POR?

We had a reservation for garden wing standard view earlier his summer but they upgraded us to water view when we checked in. It was on the first floor so we had a patio we could sit on. Also, we could see the electrical water pageant go by every night and it was really good access to the pool. Also, we don't use the car much while there but it couldn't have been more conveniently located for unloading when we got there and loading up the car when we left. It sounds like this particular upgrade happens a lot.

This was my first real deluxe stay back in the early 2000s being in one of these standard rooms. I expected it to be parking lot view and it was, but it was also monorail view going by overhead, and canal view off to the left too, and I found that I really enjoyed it and didn't mind the parking lot part of it.

Then again this past December I booked one night in one of those rooms again before moving over to BLT, and they surprised me with a pretty big upgrade all the way to tower theme park view. Because it was just one night they felt they could upgrade me they said, but monetarily it was a big upgrade, because it was holiday week (Dec 30 I think), and those theme park view rooms go for nearly $1000 per night during that week. So you never know what might happen! But I would still be happy with the standard monorail
view.

There is a reason those are the cheapest rooms at CR. The views are pretty meh.
It's a pretty sad day when us paying $449 a night before tax for our room in November is getting us "meh".... But oh well, just not going to spend a penny more!

You're paying for location, not view.
I know, I've stayed there a handful of times but again, $449 is starting to get a bit ridiculous for a "meh" anything is all I'm saying. I still went ahead and booked it because of the location but $449 a night just about anywhere would get you a killer view... Regardless we are excited though!

We had this in May. We had bushes and a wall. But at night time we could see the tops of Wishes from our room.
We had a great trip and enjoyed the quick walk to the pool. :)

Thanks everyone for the replies, I just need to stop looking at pictures of people's gorgeous theme park/bay lake views. I'm having serious balcony envy already! I may ask about a bay lake view upgrade at check in, I've no idea about the price difference as I can't see any available on the site to compare....I can only ask. If there's nothing available or if it's gonna break the bank I'll forget it, won't be the end of the world.

we stayed standard view garden wing in May and i loved it, much better than expected actually. The room was huge. We requested patio and close to transportation and got both. Our room was a king bed room which was a surprise and a nice touch. My son loved having the outside space. It was so convenient to the pool area. The walk to MK was fabulous. We would stay there again in a heartbeat.
