Cheapest way to buy Disney DVDs

Is the Disney Movie Club a good deal? Is there a cheaper way to buy Disney DVDs? For instance I know I want to buy Mary Poppins and there are several other classics that the kids don't have. I know I can occasionally get better deals on certain DVDs through store specials and coupons, but overall is there one good source?

With Disney Movie Club, I can get 6 DVDs for $26 including shipping on the first order and have to buy 4 more through out the year at a minimum of $20 plus $4 shipping or $2 shipping for second in same order. So a quick estimate would be 10 DVDs for approximately $126 or $12.60 each. Not a super deal, but maybe not bad?

Maybe someone who has done this can chime in and tell me if there subsequent DVDs were really $20 or usually more than that.

We just got 2 Disney VHS tapes and a POTC DVD for about 12 dollars from a thrift store today.

Not exactly what you asked about, but maybe you find find some older stuff in your area.

Do you own the VHS of the movies you want? If so you can put in the ISBN numbers and get $8 coupons for them then search them out in Walmart/Target and end up getting them for around $7-$8. At least you could still do it for VHS last time I did it about 8mos ago.

The movie club is going to cost you more then you think. If you ever look at the prices of the movies on the site when they come out they're much more then at the stores then they add tax and shipping. Not a good deal IMHO.

edited to add: When I can't find a DVD for a movie that's in the "vault" I have had success with ebay. Just make sure to read remarks and that they have excellent feedback.

This worked with an anime off ebay but since Canada has the same DVD reigon as the US I saved a bit of money that way. Otherwise same things apply: good feedback especially.

We are doing this with Blu Rays and saving a bunch if we buy when they first come out. We basically got Toy Story 1 and 2 on Blu Ray free after the discount, deals and the Movie tickets for Toy Story 3.

I would look at a local thrift shop, used book store or video game shop. The prices are usually good.

DVD clubs are almost never worth it because they go by the MSRP, which no DVD ever sells for unless you buy your DVD's at Borders....

I love the movie club. I think they have really good deals. Sometimes you get free shipping offers and then once you buy 1 at full price you get any additional dvds in that order at 50% off. I buy alot if Disney dvds and this is the way to go. I actually fulfilled my dmc obligation and then got a renewal in the mail where they gave me 6 more for only $1.99 total and they waved shipping....

So they have my vote.

I have bought close to 40 movies from the club...it's not a good deal. They are cheaper at Walmart.
I have just been too lazy to cancel.

There was some one that did a price comparison between buying new in the store or through DMC. One thing you do want to do, is sign up for Disney Movie Rewards. There's a topic floating around here with different promo codes to use. And you get 5 free points each month in an email. They don't have classic animation movies for the points, but you can get a lot of the older live action movies for free. They even have two box sets for Zorro that you can use reward points on. Plus there's a bunch of other things too. Some one posted earlier in the year about having 700 points after a few months with all the promo codes and not using one DVD code.

If you've got the money up front, like a couple hundred dollars, you can easily buy lots off ebay of 10-20 disney movies. If it's a duplicate, then you can try ebaying the one or using craigs list.
It's not always easy, but you can usually find a movie or two at the Goodwill or Salvation Army. I find mine at the flea market. Some movies I've gotten as cheap as a few dollars, and some as much as 8$. I've also been having good luck finding Disney soundtracks for a buck or two a piece. But I also make sure I'm buying used copies. There's been a time or two seeing new sealed dvd's that should've had the box sleeve, but didn't (and who knows where the DVDs came from). I'm more of a completionist, and want the sleeve. I had one guy tell me that the stores put the sleeves on, they don't come from Disney that way (haha... that's a bunch of bologna). So I ignore those people.

I agree that the DMC is a great deal. Been a member for years and I love that I can get grown up movies from them too , not just stuff for my kids.
