Sue and group;
Sorry I don't hang out here as much as I used to, life has been unsurprisingly chaotic, and I've been spending a lot of time w/ the disboutiquers...

But anyway, I know some people were looking for more neurodiverse designs, and here are the ones rumblytumbly helped us with last year. They're not family specific, but I know she's taking a break right now, so I thought I'd share these if anyone needs them.

One of our children, DD has ASD, ADHD (very severe), Seizure Disorder, etc. and our sone has PDD and ADHD. There wasn't room for all the "stuff" on the shirts, but I wanted to "match" and also celebrate their differences and uniqueness, so we asked for help with these.

I was also wondering if we could set up a sticky or something with tips for what to bring/do w/ ASD kiddos.

like:
travelling during low crowds if at all possible
using a service like TGM
using a stroller/special needs stroller/ w/c as a nest or "base of operations"
GAC(know there's already a sticky about that)
renting a car
using a visual schedule

for us, having a hip pack with all the sensory essentials:
1. chewy
2. fidgets
3. mp3 player
4. game console (this year, they'll have our old iphones that way in a small space they'll have video, audio, and games in one place0
5. sunglasses
6. hat
7. poncho
8. ear protectors
9. snack

Allowing our kids to freely access their "kit" really helped empower them and decreased the meltdowns alot.

It seems like new parents are coming in all the time, though and I'd love for them all to have access to what has worked for us, because otherwise, some threads get missed, or we are constantly repeating everything.

WDYT?

I think this is a good idea, but let me think of how to do it.
I don't want a separate sticky because we tried that at one point and had too many stickies and you had to scroll half way down the board to get to the questions. That was why the disABILITIES FAQs thread was born.

There are some autism related links in post #3 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread. What I am thinking might work is to have some threads on specific subjects like you outlined and a 'master thread' that would contain links to other threads in those categories. That master thread would be a link in the FAQs thread under autism.

Let's use this thread to brainstorm.

Sue; I think that's a great idea; maybe a master FAQ about autism, etc. and then seperate links for ideas on what to carry, tshirts, touring tips, ya know, all that interesting stuff. It just "bugs" me that if the right people aren't here at the right time, people miss important or useful info; plus, we end up answering the same question over and over (I don't mind people asking, but that's a lot of reporting; it would be great if people could say hi, check out the links, and then come back with further questions or ideas to add in. I really appreciate you working on this.

Or, maybe not a separate master thread, but arranging the links already in the FAQs thread more into categories with headings under autism. I hate to direct people away from the FAQs because some of thehints people have given for different conditions are equally useful for autism ( and vice versa)

Cool! So long as there's a way to navigate the info that's as user friendly as possible LOL.

I absolutely love these designs.how does someone go about getting them on t-shirts and/or magnets?Thanks:goodvibes

you should just be able to right click and save to your pictures; then you can print it out onto a tshirt or whatever you want:goodvibes

Speaking of rumblytumbly's designs - she had some others that specifically referred to Asperger's. I went looking for them last night and couldn't find them - it looks like she has disabled her photobucket account. Does anyone have any of them saved? I remember one with Stitch that said 'I have Asperger's - Please be patient with me'.
I obviously don't know the mechanics of how to do a sticky or anything like that - the only thing I can think of is a long thread comparable to those on the Resorts Board. I can say, as a parent new to the world of Neurodiversity (I LOVE that term!) it would be a big help to me. I posted a question last month and got some excellent info from some great people who really made me feel better about taking Ben so soon after his diagnosis.

Is there just a thread for ADHD/PDD/Autistic? I really need some advice from parents who had "been around the block" at WDW w/ their children that suffer from PDD. We are going on our first trip to WDW and I just now really thinking about how my son's will do. He has ADHD and PDDNOS which has been formally diagnosed as ADHD w/ PDD traits because he's more social. I guess I figured we'd take his Nintendo DSlite to occupy him while waiting in line and just avoid the fireworks because of the noise but again... this is my first time to WDW. I guess you can call it a newbie mistake. And I have ADHD so I can relate to that but I am still learning about the difficulties that he's facing as it relates to PDD. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE help me!!!

Welcome

There are multitudes of threads related to spectrum children at WDW. Set the time filter at the bottom of the page to 1 year and work your way through the treads. IF you have specific question feel free to ask we have a large “family” of spectrum parents who frequent these treads and the disability community threads for general discussions and help with spectrum issues.

Does anybody know where I could order some of the autism awareness shirts? I would love to have these for our trip in March.

If you want to use one of the designs that ireland_nicole posted earlier, just put your mouse on top of the one you want, then right click and "save as" and put the photo on your hard drive. Go to Michael's or A.C. Moore and buy some iron-on sheets and matching t-shirts. Then you can use a word processing or photo program to print it out onto an iron-on sheet and make your own! It's easy, just make sure you line them up straight onto the shirt.

You also need to make sure that you reverse the image so that when you print and then iron it on it's facing the right way.

Just trying to save you the money for the extra shirt (like I had to buy ;))

If you look in the disABILITIES FAQs thread, post #3 has links to a lot of useful information, including past threads that I thought had a lot of good advice (or someone else 'nominated' to be added to the FAQs thread).
There are quite a few links in that thread under the "autism" area.

There is a link in my signature to the disABILITIES FAQs thread.
After you look at those, then you can do a Search just of this forum. There is a "general search" in the menu bar sort of right under where it says "Find us on Facebook". A little farther down, in the menu bar for this forum, you will find a search button to search only this forum.

You also need to make sure that you reverse the image so that when you print and then iron it on it's facing the right way.

LOL, I'd have left it that way and just told people I was celebrating MY neurodiversity!

bumping this thread up - there is also a link to it in the disABILITIES FAQs thread, post #3, under autism.
