Catal, Tortilla Jo's or Naples? Which one would you eat at and why?

We have never tried any of these 3 restaurants but have a gift card to use and are having trouble deciding where. We all love Mexican food and southwestern food and eat that quite a bit around home, same with Italian. Catal probably isn't our thing, except for the steaks, but we're being open-minded. So which one, Catal, Tortilla Jo's, or Naples would you pick and why?

We ate at Torilla Joe's and really loved it. I can't compare it to the others but, it was half the cost of our WOC WCT meal and the food was better.

We hardly ever go to Catal's (last visit was 2002 I think??!!) because it's not set up with the same bustling family restaurant vibe.

Tortilla Jo's is more Cal-Mex, the margaritas are excellent. Naples kind of has that "fancy" pizza vibe going on ... they have some gourmet pizzas but you can also keep it simple. We like both and I don't think you can go wrong with either - just depends on what kind of food you feel like that particular day :)

We've only eaten breakfast at Catal, but felt it was pretty good. I thought Tortilla Joe's was just average, but then again, I prefer hole-in-the-wall mom-and-pop Mexican food. Recently, we dined at Naples for dinner and enjoyed the pizza. Here is a link to the DIS blog that I recently wrote about our experience.

Just once, order the nacho appetizer (chicken nachos for us) and margaritas at Tortilla Jo's. Chances are that will be dinner enough for two. Maybe three. :thumbsup2

Well we had a negative experience at Tortilla Joe's so we are hestitant to go back but recent reviews have been very good. :)

We've never done Catal but want to try it so we would probably pick there.

We have eaten at Naples and it was good, good pizza anyway.

I AM CRAZY OVER NAPLES!!!

♥ I eat there every chance i get!! ♥ i love the pizaa, well i love everything on the menu!! soo yummy!!!

you got that right!! :thumbsup2 its a dinner in itself for two people!! its good though:)

We like Naples so much when we ate there in late May that we went back the next night. We thought Tortilla Jo's to be o.k., but not good enough to go back.

We have great mexican food here at home, so we have not tried Tortilla Joes. I like Naples. They have a wonderful salad. Naples is very noisey. If the weather is nice sit outside if you want to have a conversation. Catal's however is my favorite of the three. The duck there is to die for. I believe by now we have tried everything on the menu and have loved everything. :tink:

Thanks for all the responses! Keep them coming. I'm still torn between Tortilla Jo's and Naples but leaning toward Naples more now.

I can only comment on Tortilla Jo's, but I liked eating there a few months back. The prices are not too bad especially considering the huge amount of food we got! Far too much for us to eat. It was the average fair I get at most Mexican places but still it was tasty. We will be eating there again in just over a week. Even better I have my birthday gift certificate. :cool1:

We went to Catal's during our 2005 trip & no one in our party of 11 was impressed. They seemed stuffy & it wasn't super family friendly (we had 3 kids 6 months - 6 years with us). It was my brother's birthday & I told the host & they did nothing for it. We even ordered a dessert & they still didn't do anything. I know it is supposed to be a higher class restaurant, but c'mon, you're in DTD! Food was mediocre, definitely not worth the price. Big let down.

2007 we went to Tortilla Joes (3 kids now 2 1/2 - 8 years) and it was a better experience atmosphere-wise, but the food was, again, mediocre. I'm not a fan of Chevy's & I thought TJ wasn't as good as Chevy's. I'd eat there again if someone I was with wanted to go there (but I also rarely crave heavy mexican food when on vacation).

I do want to try Naples, maybe next trip we will get there. But my vote for you would be for Naples or Tortilla Joe's.

egritz im with you on that one.. i got to save up for naples though!! lol rflol..

i had the french onion soup at UVA, it was ok!

I like Naples, and I must say that I am very pleased to see that there are quite a few of us who like Naples posting in this thread! It's so funny how, maybe on a different day on the DIS, the subject of Naples comes up and all the folks who don't like Naples will post so it will totally seem like it is unpopular and no one likes it, and anyone tuning in would easily think that it's a terrible place to go. However, today, by reading this thread, a person just tuning in might actually think Naples is a good place to eat!:rotfl2:

What I like about Naples is, first of all, the pizza is not a typical chain-restaurant pizza. So anyone who is used to that chain restaurant flavor might be thrown off a bit. It is hot, hot, hot out of the oven. The crust is brushed in olive oil, which you can taste. The cheese and sauce are flavorful. The pepperoni is good. I also enjoy the fact that you could get the smallest size pizza - I think it was in the range of $16-ish the last time I was at Naples - and it is big enough to feed a couple of people, possibly 3 people depending on appetite. So the larger sized pizzas probably feed more than that.

We've always had good service at Naples, and we have always sat outside to enjoy the quiet and also people watch over Downtown Disney. Our refills on beverages have been frequent. My friend enjoyed her chicken dish and her meatball sandwich. It was all good. Now, every restaurant can have off days here and there, but we seem to be lucky because we haven't hit any of them yet!!

:woohoo:
Yes!! *HIGH FIVE* another Naples lover! ♥ I, to agree with sherry that, each and everyone of us diser’s gets a different experience from a place like Naples. I to also agree that the smallest pizza(the individual size) was enough for 2 people! I had the Fig and Gorgonzola pizza, it was absolutely unbelievably good! I have never had a bad experience at Naples, always been great for me. Heck even the manager came up to my table the second time I had eaten there and was asking me what I thought of the place, and I didn’t lie, I told her I thought it was great, the food both times I have gone was so good! :cool1:

And yes I to, love sitting out on the patio area! :thumbsup2

It's because I can vaguely recall some of the all-negative Naples threads and some of the negative Tortilla Jo's threads that I posted this question. I wanted some current opinion. I'm really strongly tempted to try out Naples now after all of these great reviews! Anyone ever try any of the desserts there? I'm starting to think that pizza and gelato would make a great Disney meal.
