Has anyone cancelled a getaway? Supposed to be checking in on Friday at Sheraton Vistana, but don’t think it’ll happen. I recall another member on the boards booking one for this same timeframe, but if there are others that can speak to their experience, that’s be helpful!

The confirmation certificate from II at the time of booking states the following, which makes me think I should call MS first.

Cancellations are subject to Disney Vacation Club’s Cancellation Policy. For more information, please review the Disney Vacation Club Buyer’s Guide or contact Disney Vacation Club Member Services at the number above.

I am in the same boat as you, but I live in fort myers and am living thru a hurricane today and I cannot waste my cell phone battery on calling MS. Have to save it for emergencys. If u find out anything please post. We still have electricity as of right now but wind is sure gusting so I am sure we will lose it shortly.

According to the disclosures, Getaways are completely non-refundable (it starts at the bottom of page 8).

They may or may not make an exception, because most things are expected to start opening again Friday evening. (For example, Disney is resuming check-ins at 3PM on Friday.) It can't hurt to call though. If Vistana is not taking inbounds on Friday, that would be different.

I tried calling MS shortly after I made this post but gave up after the waiting time increase mid-wait from 24 minutes to an hour.

Oof, thanks (although not what we wanted to hear). Might still try and call to see if they’ll make an exception. Luckily booked with our sapphire reserve card and should get our money back either way.

You have it for the week; you could still go and just show up a day or two late. By that time things should be fine. September getaways in Orlando are usually cheap, so it still could be "worth it"

Yea we actually have 3 weeks booked in a row. Part of me says we should go and just deal with whatever is going on in Orlando at the resort, since our plans were just to hang out at the resort most of the time anyway. But another part feels bad doing so if it means we’ll be taking up resources like food/gas/water for people that may need it.

Member services isn’t being particularly helpful either. Requested some written documentation about check-ins on the 30th being subject to normal cancellations for proof to chase in case we file trip cancellation/interruption protection, but they said they can’t send anything out. Associate says they have too much sensitive information that they can’t send outgoing emails, whatever that means lol.

It means they don't trust the front line CSRs not to screw up.

I think if it were me, I'd call the resort and tell them I was going to arrive late, and just get there when it makes sense to do so. If for some reason you can't go, the Chase Sapphire trip insurance will probably be fine. Either way, it's not a ton of money.
