Our neigbor's employer gives away turkeys and they always give us theirs. Its about a 12lb turkey. I have roasted turkeys for years....with and without stuffing.
I was wondering if anyone have ever cooked one in a crockpot?
It would be time saving and a easy meal for the days I work.

I have done a large turkey breast in the crockpot and it came out great. The skin even browned (I like the look, we don't eat it though). I would think your turkey would do fine. Check out allrecipes.com for suggestions.

i'm not sure but i do not i've seen recipes for cooking (roasting?) a whole chicken in a crock pot. I imagine its similar.

thanks y'all

I'll check out the sites tomorrow.
I plan to cook on Thurs so I'll let you know.

Thanks again.

Yes you can. We do it every year when we go camping for Thanksgiving. I usually put it on in the morning right before making breakfast and by the evening it's done. It has alway's tasted great and juicy. I have done 12lbs and less. So your 12 lb'er should be ok. Enjoy.

I can't even imagine it fitting in my crockpot:rotfl:

If it fits.. I don't see why not, like someone else mentioned, I've done whole chickens many times:)

Mine did not fit but I just covered it with foil and it cooked great that way! The meat fell off the bone then I was able to put the lid on. I saved the breast for turkey salad

My mom does that all the time. Her crock pot isn't large enough to fit the turkey in whole, so she just cuts it up and puts it in there. Comes out great!!!!

I cook turkey breast in the crock pot all the time, I never cook the turkey with the skin on, so I take the skin off put in the crockpot with a little water put the lid on the crockpotreally good (mine attaches) and cook on low all day, it is great! Very moist!

Always cook a turkey in the crockpot. Usually its a small turkey 12 lbs or less. Always comes out great.

I've done a turkey breast a number of times:thumbsup2 The matter of a whole turkey might be different, though it depends on the size of your crockpot. If you can get the turkey to fit in the crockpot, it will be fine, but you may need to cut it up in pieces first.

Another suggestion for cooking the turkey in an easy way: Use one of those Reynolds Oven Bags. The turkey will come out very moist and delicious with virtually no effort on your part. And it's easier to clean up :worship:

It seems to me that a breast would be much easier than a "full turkey". It also seems to me that one of the newer style oval crock pots would be better than my old-fashioned round pot.
I love the crockpot 365 blog. She did a entry on it, that might be worth looking at!

Oh, I love that website, but I haven't looked at it in a while. The vast majority of her recipes have turned out to be winners, and she's done some things I didn't know were possible in a crock pot: For example, I had no idea you could bake potatoes!

Learn something new every day..:thumbsup2 Never knew you could cook a whole turkey in a crock pot..

Two questions:

Can you stuff it?

and

Does it taste just as good - nice and moist? :goodvibes
