Cabana comparison between Lookout Point and Castaway Cay

We aren't sailing until next summer, but I'm still enjoying all the info about the new destination.
Are there any opinions out there about the cabanas on the two destinations? I'm going to have some sun sensitive people with me, and while we do the usual stuff with sunscreen, hats and spf shirts, I thought it would be nice to have a shady spot to chill. I've only done Castaway Cay once, and had no problems getting a lounger with an umbrella, so I thought maybe Lighthouse point to try for a cabana, but they look so far away from family beach and the action?. But also there seems to be more limited sun loungers at Lighthouse- can't see sitting behind the dunes with three kids who want to be in and out of the water, building a sand castle, needing to get seawater, etc

Has anyone had experience with both?

Not me. Just CC - family and Serenity Bay.

On Disney Cruise Line Blog, there are some photos and a video of the Mabrika Cove cabanas (on the ship’s pier side of Eleuthera). Which also means no cross-island tram. But you would not be near the splash pad or stage for shows.

Including this piece of info:

The location of the cabana may be something to consider based on your intended use. The beach shoreline transitions from a sand to rock in the vicinity of cabanas 16 and 17 all the way down to 21.

We have done CC; we have a LP cabana booked for a few months from now and while I'm looking forward to it, I'm also mildly concerned by how far it looks to be from literally everything else to do. Like I assume at most we'd trek to the rest of the island once during the day to check it out and spend the rest of the time hanging out at the cabana, for better or for worse. How much time you envision wanting to spend in either place probably determines whether the cabana would be worth it to you or not.

And remember, even if you book concierge, you still might not get a cabana on either beach. Way more demand than supply.

I do get that. We did a short Wish sailing in consierge last year with my niece and granddaughter- I did put in a request, but didn't get one. We had no problems with getting a shady spot, and was fine.

I did see one blog post, where they mentioned that it would have made more sense that the family and adult only cabanas would have made more sense switched, given the isolation from the action

I can only speak for a family cabana. I would definitely pick middle numbers because the loungers are going to be placed in the middle since the beginning/end numbers the terrain isn't well so it's not as stable and they will not have any loungers over there. In addition, there will not be any float tubes like castaway either. Unless they decided to add those later.

I have done cabanas at both. Definitely prefer the family beach one at Castaway and after hearing about Serenity bay cabanas on LHP from some folks who were there while we were at the Mabrika ones, I think I will stick with the family ones moving forward on LHP.

The Mabrika (family) ones on LHP are not behind dunes although higher number cabanas do have rocks by the beach so I would suggest a lower numbered one if possible. Also due to tides, there are no beach loungers in front of the cabanas but the hosts make it very clear that the loungers in front of the lowered number cabanas are communal and any cabana guest can use them.

The food was fantastic (on our sailing the Palo team served and cooked the food). It is a bit of hike to the activities, but you can get a golf cart or tram ride over. We were a LHP twice and went over to the activities once the first day and twice the second.

The cabanas themselves are gorgeous. We loved having a dining table with chairs. The doors to the front are glass so if it starts raining, you can close the doors and still see out, unlike castaway cay cabanas. The cabana rinse off showers are nicer at LHP than castaway. Overall, I’d highly recommend the cabanas

I haven’t had time to watch the video in this post, but it may help:

https://www.disboards.com/threads/video-disney-lookout-cay-vs-castaway-cay.3949637/

its a decent video but like most things Dreams, rather long for the content...they do an okay job comparing, but spent less time on the actual cabanas with a lot of time on comparing the two islands experiences outside of the cabanas too.

I have stayed at CC, not LC (booked in September) and the differences I get from theirs and other videos is CC is twice as large (but thats okay for us), has couple more toys (the floats that LC isnt allowed to have), has an uninterrupted view of the ocean (LC has those sand dunes), but on the plus side LC has pads that actually work to control the music and order food and drink which I much prefer over ringing the bell and waiting for someone to come and take your order, then wait for the order, strikes me as asking too much of the folks. the pad at least eliminated a step and makes it clearer what you can and can not get. As for the dunes, you are allowed to pick up a chair and carry it over to the water.

I’ve only seen LP on line and frankly the cost and poor location for Serenity is not worth it to us, while the cost of Mabrika for 2 is ridiculous. On our cruise in Jan we’ll be staying on board.

Choice is good. I say that sincerely, I think it's great you have identified this just isn't for you. leaves it available for someone that will enjoy it.

And I agree, after watching the videos of Cabana C at LC serenity bay I suspect it wont replace in my heart good ole 23 at CC (yes I have my favorite cabana there). But a lot of that has to do with the maturity of the vegetation and the lack of a sand dune between my hammock and the water. However, I am excited by the iPad music and beverage control of the LC cabana, so I am looking forward to experiencing the differences in September (I will be getting off the boat) and count myself lucky for getting one there. I am not worried by location, by all accounts you just dont have families walking down into Serenity Bay, there does appear to be enough separation.
