Bisquick vs. Krusteaz - cheaper but tastier?

Hi - we're huge Bisquick fans - yea, Sunday morning pancakes...chicken and dumplings... strawberry shortcake... , but have noticed that Costco has a Krusteaz brand bag double the size of the Bisquick box for the same price.

We did try the Krusteaz once before, a LONG time ago, found the taste wasn't nearly as good and tossed the rest of the bag. Did anyone else notice this - and did you "fix" it somehow with other ingredients? Or, are we just *crazy* and is the taste the same to you? (We do note that the Krusteaz pancake/biscuit mix just calls for water, but the Bisquick says to add eggs and milk...) We do buy the Bisquick with coupons, but...

My response would be to find recipes for your favorites that don't involve Bisquick or Krusteaz at all. If you find acceptable recipes for your favorites, they usually don't take any more time to make than a mix and they are better for you with no preservatives or additives.

We use Pioneer baking mix. We think it tastes much better than Bisquick. It makes great biscuits - the taste is very close to my homemade biscuits. It requires using milk, but the difference is worth it. If I made biscuits or pancakes from scratch, I'd be using milk and/or eggs anyway. The mix (any mix) is a nice timesaver, so I guess it depends which is more important to you - time or a few cents. For me, it's usually the time.

If you google it, there are recipes for making your own Bisquick mix. I don't know how good they are. It might be worth a shot though.

We are big fans of Krusteaz. For the pancakes, we add vanilla. For bread, as is.

We found Nigella's (Lawson?) recipe online for pancakes. Make it in a blender, it involves melted butter, it's AMAZING and ridiculously easy.

It's just like yellow cake...Betty Crocker's cookbook has a yellow cake recipe that is JUST as quick and easy as making a BC box yellow cake, but without the preservatives and creepy ingredients.

We make our own Bisquick. It tastes just like Bisquick and is much less expensive. Sometimes I also sub whole wheat flour for half of the white flour to make it a bit healthier. It doesn't taste exactly the same, but it's still good.

I'd love your homemade Bisquick recipe! We do make all of our own bread and use white whole wheat flour mixed in to it (the kids haven't noticed and it is a lot healthier )

I found this - thanks to you - and printed it out. I'll have to give it a whirl (blender humor - HA! )It sounds yummy and simple.

I use Save-a-Lot's baking mix. Every Bisquick recipe I've tried with it comes out great. The Krusteaz is really more for pancakes than for biscuits, Impossible Cheeseburger Pie, and the other yummy Bisquick recipes. See if your local grocery store carries a generic "buttermilk baking mix," and give it a shot. All else fails, you'll just eat a lot of biscuits and pancakes!

Homemade Bisquick!! WOW! That would be too cool!
fwiw, I add a small amount of cinnamon and sugar to my pancakes, no matter what I use to make them. They turn out super yummy.
