I love candles in the fall, but I hate spending lots of $$ on them...anyone have candle recommendations? Here are mine- WalMart had a butterscotch candle last year in the fall in a small ceramic jar that was heavenly...it made my entire house smell good. I don't know if they will have them this year...I also found some closeout candles at Dollar Tree called Fall Festival and they were good. They weren't a dollar tree brand - and they haven't had any more since they sold them all.......

Do you have a Old Time Pottery store near by? They usually have good prices in candles, about $3.00 for the big jars.

I am pretty sure this is only a local company but Scentsational Scents -- I get 2 mason jar candles for $11. I first learned of these when I could not smell my "Yankee candle" in my own office over the "scentasational Scent" candle of my co-worker's next door. Wide variety of scents too.

These aren't as cheap, but Shaws Supermarket (northeast) sells HOT APPLE PIE candles. They around $8 but they are the same size as the Yankee Candle jars for less than 1/2 the price. And this one smells just as good.

AC Moore has wonderful smelling candles, we actually like them better than Yankee Candle. I usually buy the tarts instead of the candles because they smell even better and you get 2 tarts per package at $1 per tart!

I second the candles at AC Moore- they have the large sized jars for less than $4.00, and the scent lasts a long time. I use an electric candle burner (also purchased at AC Moore for around 5 dollars) because I have a toddler in the house, and don't feel comfortable with an open flame. It seems to work really well, and I get to extend the life of the candles by a huge amount!

My favorite scents are banana nut bread, and apples and cinnamon. I just saw a new scent the other day though, called Pumpkin Patch, and it was just divine!

I hate Wal-Mart, but I do have to admit their candles smell nice - very cheap, too! I especially like the vanilla.

Last year I got some at Walgreen's- they were shaped like cinnamon sugar shakers and were made of soy I think. They were usually 2/$5.99 but I got a but 1 get 2 free deal which made them about $2 each. They smelled wonderful and burned very cleanly! I used them in gift baskets for the holidays.

I hope they have them again this year!!

I'm not a big "scent" person, but I love Target's Tahitian Vanilla candles (not any old vanilla that they sell, specifically the tahitian vanilla). They aren't super cheap, but they aren't expensive either.

20 oz jar candles 4.00 at BigLots.

Bought the Pumpkin spice and Caramel Vanilla.....don't know how much they will scent the house as I haven't lit them yet, but the sure smell good on the jars! Hoping they smell as good when burning.....some candles just don't smell when lit and that always bums me out!

I couldn't get any Walmart candles to scent.

I buy the YC - and wait for a killer sale. Got $20 off an order of $25 or more. Can't beat that.

Wal-Mart makes some line with apple pie, chocolate, etc....and they're cheap!

I guess you could say I'm a bit biased, but I have only bought Partylite candles for the last 5 or 6 years. I finally decided to become a consultant since I burn so many candles. I've honestly never found any that I like better. They burn completely, are lead free and clean burning, and the scents are stronger than anything I've ever burned. I especially love the Holiday Spice, Cinnamon and Bayberry, Brandied Apricots, and Roasted Chestnuts for the holidays this year. They aren't exactly "cheap" but they can be free and they are the best deal for the money considering burn time and the fact that they burn until there's nothing left. You can check out the website to find a dealer near you if you're interested. :rolleyes1

Marlo Quinn "Berry Creme Brulee" is my favorite. The scent carries through the entire house. Luv it!!

That's why I asked - I am SO sick of buying candles that cost over $10.00 than don't smell at all!!!!!!! I thought we could help each other out with recommendations..... :confused3

Sorry, I can't help with cheap candles. I always feel like they're a waste of money too. I do agree that Glade has the best candles you can get at a supermarket or discount dept. store.

IMHO, Bath & Body Work's (White Barn Candle Co.) has a stronger scent than YC. I usually buy whichever is on sale, but price being equal, I prefer WBCC. B&BW has some great sales on their candles too. :thumbsup2

In the past, I have found Candle-lite brand, at Walmart, in Christmas Cookie scent that filled my vaulted-ceiling kitchen, dining room, and living room with a warm, sweet scent. They were very reasonable ($1 - $3) but they did not carry that brand last year. :guilty:

I love the White Barn Candles too. Aren't they sold at B&BW?

ITA with this. Partylite are not particularly cheap, but well worth the cost. They smell great, burn well, and last a long time. And the votives are actually a pretty good buy. I love that they are clean burning and don't put any toxic chemicals out there when you burn them.
