I was thinking of switching to daily wear lenses if they are not too costly - does that help? I currently wear Air Optics which were fine at first but now I seem bothered by dry eye in the evenings.

Daily wear lenses can be very comfortable but they are expensive. You cannot just change your lenses on your own since your eye doctor prescribed a specific brand for you. You might want to make a call to him and ask about lenses for dry eyes. He might furnish you with a complimentary set of trial lenses to see if another brand or type of lens suits you better. He should be able to do it without you needing another eye exam unless your prescription is more than 2 years old.

Don't fool around with eye problems. Go to the eye doctor to make sure there isn't something else going on, as the problem may not be simply caused by the lenses. There may be something you need to change in your routine, there may be drops he or she would recommend, or there may be something else.

I have Air Optix for Astigmatism. I suffer from dry eye also. I had a Accuevue for years and the doctor had me try the Air Optix. Last year, she gave me a trial for BioFinity. I didn't much care for the material of the contact so I came back to Air Optix.

What solution are you using for your contacts? The doctor wants me to use BioTrue or OptiFresh. When I grabbed the store brand, my eyes dried out much faster. And I only did that for the current budget issue.

Definitely talk with your doctor about the dry eye issue.

DD has the same eye problems. She was given dailies because of her age, but she still had dry problems. The doctor found a clogged pore. A bit of medication to open them up and then she had an oil removal product for her eye lid. Now, 2 years later and no more dry eye.

Do you wear eye makeup? I wear Accuvue Oasys and I started having dry eye issues. My doctor suggested I try getting travel sized bottle of Johnson and Johnson baby shampoo and dilute it 50/50 with water and use that to remove to my eye makeup after taking out my lenses. It resolved the blocked oil glands/tear ducts issue and my lenses are comfortable again.

Note: although I am in my mid-40s, I still have a tendency to have oily skin. Most eyemake removers are oil based and thus made my problem worse.

Hmmm. Well I wouldn't call them a budget item, but I made the switch to daily wear a couple of month ago and I would never go back! It is so easy, and I avoid a lot of the issues with makeup and excess protein build-up, which was a problem for me. These lenses are comfy every day, which is a big improvement for me. And I don't seem to need contact solution anymore, they go right in my eyes -- so there must be some savings there...

I have the same problem. Makeup clogged the tear ducts and made my eyes dry. Also, switching solutions made a big difference. I wear Acuvue Oasis.

Put me in the category against air optics and acuview oasis. Switched to oasis last year and have nothing but problem. Had to go 2 weeks without contacts and Dr switched me to air optics. Didn't last a day. They were awful for my eyes. You know what's working best? The equate $14 a box lenses at Walmart. They are made by botch & lamb.... Which is the brand I wore for 17 years before switching to the oasis.

My eye dr. prescribed Accuvue2 and Accuvue(?) Astigmatism. They are 6 in a box for 3 months, but I wash mine daily with Multi-purpose solution and get a month out of them. The Accuvue2 is less than $20/box from Costco or VisionDirect.com

Just curious. Did your Dr. specifically prescribe the Equate brand? Thanks.
I need to switch contacts, as mine are giving me a fit right now.

I wore Acuvue Oasys for several years without problems. Then my eyes slowly began to dry out and when I'd remove my contacts apparently my eyes would get scratched because they were so dry. So after several weeks of eye drops and wearing glasses, my dr suggested the daily wear contacts and they are wonderful! I have had NO dry eye problems whatsoever and it has been 2 years. But YES, holy cow, they are expensive. But after going through what I went through with dry eyes, I feel the extra money is worth it.

I have not been able to use my contacts for almost three months due to a papilloma (sp?) issue under my eye lid but one of the things the ophthalmologist put in my treatment plan was to use artificial tears at least twice a day and if I get to use my contacts again this will continue ...so not sure if that will help anyone or not but I HATE being without my contacts and if that will help anyone am happy to do so.

Approximately how much more are the dailies? I'm not sure what my insurance pays but not much so I would have to pay a lot out of pocket.

I'm not exactly sure...my insurance covered the first 6 months, and I haven't been back to pay for the second 6 yet...I bet you could go to one of those mail order sites and compare the cost

She is just trying them this week. I asked if they match SAMs and he said they are less then SAMs and others.
