I remember years ago I went on the Popeye ride and was soaked. I am going again in June but want to be prepared. Please list your best footwear and shorts/shirts to wear that would dry quickly. Also, how do you carry your technology on these rides?

We wear board shorts, t shirt, and Nike shoe sandals. :thumbsup2

Columbia, makes quick dry clothes. I LOVE this brand for the parks as they have great pockets too. For footwear Merrell flip flops are the greateast and dry quick.:thumbsup2 Usually I wear a Tankini bathing suit top with Columbia shorts.

Oh and I use a baggallini waist bag for our phones and things.

Any decent outdoor outfitter will have quick-dry clothes, and even Lands End has things in nylon and microfiber if you don't want to look like a boy scout or wear your bathing suits. I've got Keen and Merrill sandals to wear; the boys are taking their Keen Newport H2 and Merrill Waterpro shoes.

I'll have several quart sized freezer bags for the camera and phones.

We plan on wearing our bathing suits, so how dry will that keep us? Or would it be better to try and wear some of the clothes that pervious posters have mentioned? I'm going to try and bring a waterproof fanny pack, or something like that.

Thanks!

A largish poncho with a hood and tucked in at all the right places kept us bone dry for both rides. You can put shoes in the center of the Popeye ride.

Otherwise I would recommend Nike Dri-Fit clothes. They really do work well.

when are you going miss marie?

you would have to have some clothing over your bathing suit.
and not just a clear poncho......

suggest a kwi dry top and shorts would work over the suits.

if you are going next month (your date says in 3 weeks), you'll have plenty of time to shop for some kwi dri items

We like to wear Teva sandals on water rides (provided it's warm enough weather to be wearing sandals). They dry right off and we like that there's less "shoe" surrounding our feet (less to dry and feet don't stay as soggy). I found some at DSW. Keens would also work if you prefer a more enclosed shoe. I agree that for clothing something like the Nike Dri Fit or some of the lightweight Under Armour products would tend to be ideal for water rides. Anything light & loose. NOT heavy cotton fabrics. If it is not warm out and we don't want to be freezing cold afterward we would wear disposable ponchos.

Just back from our first Universal trip.... we were so focused on Potter that we totally forgot to plan for the water rides! Completely soaked, through the sneakers.... not good! White t-shirt too... yikes. We bought new t's to change into and just went with it. Luckily i had a plastic bag for my phone, etc.

As for the bathing suit idea - they were definitely stopping men and women from taking off their t-shirts to ride; you have to be wearing a shirt and shorts, no suits alone.

On previous trips to other parks, I've worn quick-dry shorts and packed a change of undergarments and tshirt in my backpack - quite happy with that solution.

I have worn lands end tankini suits alone for years, also the bathing suit dresses are adorable.

Just now starting to do my research for U / IoA for this summer....how many water rides ARE there anyway? Which ones are at U & which ones at IoA? Are they similar at all to Kali River Rapids at AK or Splash at MK??

There are only three and all three are at IoA. You may get a little wet (especially if you are on the front row) on Jurrassic Park River Adventure. You will get completely soaked though on Dudley Do-Right Ripsaw Falls and Popeye/Bluto Bilge-Rat Barges. You get MUCH wetter on Rip Saw Falls and Bilge Rat Barges than on Kali River Rapids. They are not even close. Every one, not just the couple on one side will get soaked through and through.:rotfl:

Good to know, thanks. I am ALWAYS, without FAIL "the one" on Kali River that gets the full on dump of water. DH won't sit next to me 'cuz it's too close and guarantees he will get wet too. :rotfl2: (DS doesn't mind though.) Hopefully it will be a nice hot day whenever we go (August) and we'll dry quickly. Maybe we should just do these 2 rides back to back and get it all overwith at once.:goodvibes

We always do both parks in one day. We go to IoA first, rent a locker as we go in to put extra clothes in, then go back to ride FJ before it gets too crowded, then do everything else in IoA, before we do the water rides. We do the water rides just before leaving IoA, then on the way out of the park, change into dry clothes, before running over to the Studios, leaving our wet stuff in the locker. After we finish at the Studios we just run back over to IoA to pick our wet stuff up, before leaving Universal that evening. Doesn't take long and that way we are comfortable all day.

:rotfl: I don't think I can be that organized. We have a room booked for 1 night at the HRH - just gonna take a taxi over from WDW (leaving our DVC villa empty for the 1 night) so I was just gonna pack a small duffle or something with what we need for the 1 night... Figured we'd check in at HRH early that morning & leave our duffle with bell services 'cuz I'm assuming that our room won't actually be ready at 7:30 in the morning...then go hit a park for the day. If we do the studios that first day then maybe take a break in the afternoon to go get our room & hang out at the pool for an hour or so then shower & go back out for the evening. Then I was figuring we'd be up & out early the next AM for the early opening at IoA, storing our duffle with bell services again for the day. With all this talk about no bags at the U parks I was trying to figure out how to go light (no backpack) for these 2 days. I suppose I COULD pack 2 outfits to bring over but I'd been thinking only 1 each to keep it simple.

Any Under Armour Heat Gear works fantastic. Not only are they great to wear in the heat (feels like you're not wearing anything) but they dry unbelievably fast. I swear by them.

I assume the heat/dry fit line from other companies - Nike, Columbia, even the Wal-Mart brand - work well too, I just haven't worn them.

Are you sure about that? Many men's bathing suits look like shorts. If I change into a bathing suit prior to doing any of the water rides and wear a shirt, they won't let me? Or did I misunderstand?
