Best Chance To Secure Heroic Encounters

We booked a DCL vacation later than most and all of the Heroic Encounters are sold out. It does say "A limited number of reservations may be available on the first day of your cruise. Please check the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app while on the ship to determine if there is availability."

So, what is the best way to approach this? I have the app but it has limited functionality until I am onboard and connected to the ship wifi system. So, I can't do this from the dock, right?

You should be able to connect to the ship wifi from port...or just go to guest services.

Will anyone from the concierge desk have access to see?

If you are a concierge guest, you should try to send them an email asking for a spot. They will go above and beyond to make your request a reality.

On my Pixar Day at Sea cruise, I was able to book character greetings in the terminal while waiting to board. The terminal typically does have access to the ship's WiFi.

I agree that if you are sailing in Concierge, you should contact the Shoreside Concierge team, if you haven't already, to ask if there's a way to get a spot for the meets you want. I don't know if any cast members in the cruise terminal will have any more access to onboard activities than you will, but Guest Services can help once you're onboard if you are unable to access anything through the app.

No luck. Called the concierge team, she looked and could only confirm, zero availability but she did put a note on the reservation for the onboard concierge team to see the request and if a cancellation comes up or something of that nature, they'll reach out.

If my understanding is correct, there are other opportunities for these encounters, just not scheduled. So, a wait in line will net the same thing, right? Or for those, do we take pics on our phones vs the professional photographer DCL uses with the reserved appointments.
