I have heard so much about these as well as the Fritters....what restuarant are these located at?

Cafe du Monde on Decatur Street. :rotfl2:

OK, just kidding. But these were one of my FAVORITE things when we went to New Orleans in 2007, so I'm looking forward to them at DL too (and since this will be our first trip ever to DL, I'd like to know the answer as well).

Cafe Orleans in DL and Jazz Kitchen Express (I believe) in Downtown Disney. HTH

Mmmmm..... the beignets are good. I got some for free at Cafe Orleans on my b-day. I believe the fritters are only available at the mint julup bar. I haven't tried them yet but they're on my list of foods to try before our APs expire.

Jazz Kitchen has sit down dinners but on the left side is take out food with them yummy beignets. Unlike the Cafe Orleans these beignets are meant for taking home and not sharing:lmao: . I used to bring home a dozen for mom and me. If you read reviews people think they are almost as good as the ones in New Orleans, LA.

Jazz Kitchen Express
Classic New Orleans Beignets - French donuts deep fried and topped with powdered sugar. Small (4) $4.59 Large (6) $6.59

Cinnamon "French Toast" Dippers - Classic beignets cut into "sticks" and dusted with cinnamon powdered sugar, served with maple syrup for dipping. - $4.99

Cafe Orleans
"Mickey"-shaped Beignets - Topped with powdered sugar and served with raspberry coulis and vanilla creme anglaise - $6.99

Outside the park you have:
New Orleans Famous Coffee & Beignets
2512 E Chapman Ave
Orange, CA 92869
(714) 532-5556‎

I tried the ones at Jazz Kitchen express, and maybe it was just a bad day, but I didn't care much for them. Very greasy. We got them in a paper bag with powdered suger, so you shook them up to coat them. I thought they tasted like tough donuts. I've had good beignets, too, but these weren't it. Somebody once said that the ones at Cafe Orleans are better, but I didn't try those.

I love these as well. We went to New Orleans in 99 and have been CRAVING them ever since...this is why i am soooo looking forward to the ones at DLR...hope they don't disappoint....

You can also get the fritters at Royal Street Veranda - which is good since the Mint Julep Bar isn't always open. They are three for $3.69. Not as good as the beignets, though.

The thing to bear in mind when eating beignets: DO NOT INHALE!!!! You'll choke on powdered sugar! :rotfl:

Good to know! Thanks!

I have ordered the beignet mix from Cafe Du Monde in New Orleans, and made them. And they are delish! And yes, the ones at CO are almost as good.
My Dfi is from New Orleans and he gave mine and the ones at CO a :thumbsup2 .
So there ya go!

Is CO a table service restaurant? Can we just order some beignets to go? I could eat them as a snack, but I hate to take a whole table just for that. :goodvibes

Ohhh, how did you order the mix? I love beignets! :)

It's a TS place but I imagine you could walk up to the podium and say "we were wondering if we could just order some beignets for take out?" I'm sure the answer would be yes....I don't see why they wouldn't do it. I've had the beignets at Jazz Kitchen Express, I thought they were great, we've never had them at CO, we never have any room left when we are done eating there. :)

I ordered the mix a few years back and they are so easy to make and quite yummy!! I have tried the ones from DTD and they are pretty good. Of course that was my first beignet experience. I am looking forward to the ones at CO as people say these are better. Perhaps I will try both in April and compare :)

My DGF usually makes them once a month for a Sunday breakfast, can not beat fresh from the fryer.

While the ones at CO are better than the ones at the Jazz Kitchen Express, they pale in comparison to those at Cafe Du Monde. Enough so that I do not waste my calories on them. Even DH who will eat anything won't get them from the Jazz Kitchen. We came to the conclusion that they have a fishy taste from being fried in the same the oil as other menu items.

Will she share her recipe with me? lol Seriously....ask her.....seriously......:thumbsup2

Hmm, ours absolutely were not fishy. Trust me, I will not eat anything that tastes or smells fishy. I love seafood but if it's fishy no way!

I have to say that I really, really prefer the ones from Jazz Kitchen over the CO ones.

They are very different from each other, though. I wouldn't say it's like comparing apples and oranges, but maybe apples and pears. Depends more on your taste.

The ones at Jazz Kitchen are made the same way that they make them at Cafe du Monde, but I imagine that the reason the two taste differently is the water.

You can buy the Cafe du Monde mix at the Jazz Kitchen express, as well as cans of Chicory coffee. You can also order it off the Cafe du Monde website.

Don't exhale either, unless you want to have your clothes covered in a fine white powder (which you might want, if you have a desire to be covered in ants or mistaken for a drug addict and risk having Lindsey Lohan trying to subtly sniff your shirt).;)

The fritters aren't worth the money imo. I love the Jazz Kitchen beignets first thing in the morning, but I haven't tried the Cafe Orleans ones yet.

You can also get the Du Monde mix at Cost Plus (I've also found it at Dean and Deluca on occasion).

I have done the beignets at Jazz Kitchen Express and in the restaurant itself and I don't know why but the ones in TS are better.

I had the same experience. The ones at the Jazz Kitchen Express were just NOT good.

However the ones at CO are indeed very good, and mickey-shaped, so that's even more fun. :)

They have lots of tables, don't worry about that! Plus, you're somewhat protected from the wind while sitting there, and you're less likely to get powdered sugar everywhere. Trust me. Even in New Orleans, sitting at the table is a better idea than trying to take them back to your hotel...much more messy to sneak just one from the bag on your way back rather than to just take the moment to sit at a table to eat that one. :goodvibes

I know that our group got some beignets to go during the ladies only trip, so they do have to-go boxes.

Once I can get over the Cascades (awful car for the snow) we'll be there. :)

We came to the conclusion that they have a fishy taste from being fried in the same the oil as other menu items.

After having a very long conversation with Chef Chris, I can tell you that it's not their policy to share oils like that. They want to make everyone as happy as possible, and making beignets in oil that fish had been in would make vegetarians unhappy, just like if they used lard in their refried beans (not at CO but elsewhere) it would make veggies and a few religions unhappy, etc. Not to mention the gluten-free issue!!!!!

On the other hand, Jazz Kitchen isn't owned by Disney, so maybe that IS their policy. All I know is that they were nasty!!!!!
