Seeing another post got me thinking.....I've purchased backpacks from Land's End for dd's and they've used them for 2 years. One of my dd's is starting to come apart at one of the seams. I am considering purchasing from LL Bean. What is your preference? I see that LL Bean has a custom color designed backpack, but it says for 15 yrs and up. DD will be 11. However, the dimensions look the same. I'm so :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 !!!

I don't know anything about landsend backpacks but my DH has owned an LL Bean one since 1992 and it is still going. He has been through high school, colledge twice, and mulitiple vacations with it. Hope this helps.

I've always liked the Lands End back packs. My DD gets bored of the color long before she wears it out.

If I were you - I would call Lands End customer service. Sounds like this back pack wore out before it should have. Lands End is guaranteed forever.

I have heard that LL Bean replaces them for free if anything happens to them. I guess they have a lifetime guarantee.

My dd has an LL Bean one that is wonderful. It's one of the larger ones (she's 9yo, but her school doesn't send home heavy stuff like books anyway--plus half the time she makes me carry it to the car anyway, lol) She's been using it for 4 years already and it shows NO signs of wear and tear at all!

It has a matching lunchbox, that is, until she decided she had to have a Stitch one instead. :teeth:

That's right. We have had two replaced. I essentially bought 4 in the 1980's and we still have that original investment.

I've heard great things about both companies bags, my SIL has an LL Bean one that has been through junior high school, high school, and 2 years of college and is still going strong.

OT- what kind of backpack would you suggest for a preschooler? My oldest starts preschool in Aug. and his school supply list says he will need a backpack but has no suggestions for what kind.

All of my kids have ones from L.L.Bean. If something on it ever breaks they give you a new one. My boys are going into 4th grade this year and they are very tough on theirs but the backpacks are still going strong.

LL Bean backpacks are amazing quality, and if they do fall apart, they replace them, even if they're really old. We've all had LL Bean backpacks, and they all have been great

I'm quoting my DD here "all the cool kids have LL Bean backpacks". Both my DD's have them and one did break. It had a problem with the zipper. I called and they sent me a new one with no problem.

That's all you really need to know :thumbsup2

But seriously, LL Bean's are great. DS #2 is now using his brother's hand-me-down Bean backpack.

Dd has had both and both were great!

I think the Land's End one was a bit more durable. I always buy them from either place because of the guarantee. You can't beat it.

we bought both our kids one during junior high.....they decided to swap them between themselves in highschool.....My sons went to college and guess what
we have used that one for our trips to Disney the last fifteen years.....it works like a charm..
These are LL Beans and they are still in perfect condition.....when it gets dirty we throw it in the wash and let it dry outside......

Lands End fan here...gotta be true to my Wisconsin companies, you know! :thumbsup2

I agree that you should contact customer service - that's way too soon to wear out.

For a preschooler-I always let mine pick out any one they wanted-DD had Cinderella and then Barbie, DS has Power Rangers. As long as they are the full size ones, so they can fit their papers in them. I see some parents buy their kids the mini ones, and all their stuff doesn't fit very well.

LL Bean, no question. My daughter still has the one we bought before 1st grade along with a lunch box and they both still look great. She had the smaller one for younger kids and now that she's going into middle school, I guess it's time for a bigger one for heavier books but she wouldn't need a new one otherwise. The only issue we ever had with it was the tears that I wouldn't let her put her name on it other than initials!

My son wants a monogramed LL bean rolling backpack. And that's what he'll get this fall.

We still have DD's 1st back pack from Kindergarten. A small sized Land end. She is 19 now and I still use the bag. She has had two other Lands end bags. The last one she got in 9th grade and still uses it now at college.

I have an LL Bean computer back pack that I got probably 8 years ago. It is heavily used and still looks brand new.

I dont think you can go wrong with either one.

Thanks for all the replies. :goodvibes I think I'll give Land's End a call. DD only had it through 1st grade and 2nd grade. Not really carrying the heavy duty books at this age. I used to buy the princesses or whatever they picked out, but those didn't seem to make it through a year without ripping, so I thought if I invested a bit more $$$ from a reputable company, I'd get more bang for my $$$.

Love the comment about "the cool kids having the LL Bean backpacks". That made me chuckle. I never knew backpacks were such a status symbol. :) However, if I were a kid I'd want the custom color one! :teeth:

LL BEAN!!

My DD still has her 1st grade back pack from LL Bean and she's entering college.

For pre-school they have smaller bags with a few cute designs to chose from on them.
I don't think you can beat them.

they also make the best toiletry bags ever!
