Baby proofing a splitlevel house railing??

I am looking for advice. We own a split level house and are trying to baby proof the railing that goes around the top. We have a gate for the top of the stairs but are looking for something sort of netting or something that can go under the 6 inch space between the rail (rod iron) and the carpeting. Does anyone have any solutions or places to look.

I don't know how yours in constructed, but for ours, we removed the railing and built a half wall. We retained the airy feeling, but got a little more privacy from the deal and a lot more safety. We did it ourselves in a weekend, it wasn't hard.

this was a few years back, but I could not find a net that covered the space under the rail too.

We had our house professionally babyproofed and had a situation similar to your's. We have an open railing between the kitchen and the family room. The baby guy put a piece of clear plexiglass over the railing to the floor. He attached it by drilling small holes and using plastic clips to secure the plexiglass. It really works. I would try Home Depot and see if they can cut plaexiglass for you and then I thingk you could probably attach it yourself. Have fun!

My parents used the safety netting from their boat to baby proof their upstairs when DS was a baby. (they did not need it on the boat in the winter, and they were ALWAYS on the boat in the summer so they did not need it at home, lol)
