Looking to plan a trip over next Easter (April 17-20). Thinking about staying at the Hotel Indigo Midtown. Is this a safe area to stay? We won’t have a car so we will be relying on public transportation. It’s just DH and myself (both in our early fifties). We’ve previously spent Easter in New Orleans & San Antonio. Hoping there’s some fun, unique activities to see for Easter! Any tips/recomendations are greatly appreciated!

I live about 30 minutes Norh of ATL. ATL is Fulton County, I live in North Fulton County. I don't know of any special activities during Easter in ATL. Though back in the 90's when living in another state, I went to the Final Four and it was right at Easter. I do remember there not being much to do or see other than the game stuff. In general, ATL is not that safe. A lot of crime. My husband just went on Saturday for Dragon Con and he dreads it. He wants to get in and out. As a couple of family, we don't venture thee.

Midtown is safe enough. Lots of things to do nearby. The Zoo is not far and then there is the World of Coke,it and the aquarium both share the same campus so walk from one another. Also try Atlanta Botanical Gardens. Then you have the beltline. Lots of restaurants and people watching.

We've been to Atlanta numerous times and visited a few of the local attractions. Our family's favorite was the Swan House that was used in the Hunger Games movies. The house and gardens are open to tours. It's part of the Atlanta History Center, which is a museum that features 33 acres of historical exhibits, including the mansion.

My daughter attends Georgia Tech. I think Midtown is relatively safe. I don't personally love Marta. Aquarium and Botanical Garden are both fun to visit. Hotel Indigo's location should be decent.

Thanks for the info. I realize theres crime there. Just trying to avoid the areas more prone to it.

Thanks! I’ll look into those activities.

Oh! Hunger games is one of my favorite movies! Definitely putting that on my list!

Thanks! We are fine using Uber also but generally try to use public transportation when we can. I think the aquarium & gardens will be on my list too!

Relatively native Atlantan here. And by Atlantan, I mean Atlanta proper and not the burbs which is where 99% of people who say they're from Atlanta actually live.

Anyway, I'm super familiar with this area. If you're just going to the Fox Theatre for a wedding or a show or you have a car, Hotel Indigo Midtown would be fine. I would highly recommend moving to a hotel a few blocks further north than that though if your goal is to try and use public transportation and explore the city. Anything south of North Ave is legitimately sketchy, and you will not want to walk around that area. Aim for staying closer to the Midtown or Arts Center stations--preferably closer to 10th St. If you can walk to Piedmont Park, even better. Way nicer area for walking around, far more restaurants, and in general, there will just be more pedestrians around.

And while I appreciate your desire to use public transportation, Marta legitimately is not good. It's great for getting to and from the airport. Trains are fine--there may be the usual weirdo, but it's basically safe. The buses are just too infrequent to be reasonably used unless you get lucky with timing. I live on two bus lines, and I think that's the exact same number of times that I've used the buses. They're scheduled every 40 to 50 minutes making them totally impractical. If you have all the time in the world to make a ten minute trip by car take one hour, then go for it. But expect to take an Uber or Lyft or two.

Hotel Indigo Midtown is located in a generally safe area of Atlanta, with plenty of nearby attractions and easy access to public transportation. The neighborhood around Midtown is known for its vibrant arts scene, with the Fox Theatre, High Museum of Art, and Piedmont Park close by. MARTA (Atlanta's public transit) also has a station nearby, making it convenient for getting around the city without a car.

For Easter, you might enjoy events like egg hunts at the Atlanta Botanical Garden or outdoor services at Piedmont Park. Midtown also has plenty of great dining options and a lively atmosphere, perfect for exploring. Just be aware of your surroundings, especially at night, as with any urban area.

You might want to visit the Atlanta Underground which is a fabulous shopping district there that is in Downtown Atlanta and it's got a lot of neat stores and a huge Johnny Rockets restaurant. I went to Atlanta when my father went on a business trip there and it is awesome
Enjoy your Atlanta trip 570Traveler and have fun

Do not go to Underground Atlanta unless you want to go to one of the clubs/concert venues there. There is no shopping and no Johnny Rockets as those places closed 10 years ago.

I am a native Atlantan and live in the city and would be happy to help with recommendations.

Are there there any types of food y’all prefer? I can share some great spots to eat, and what to ignore. On Easter, there will be a lot of pre-fixe brunch so be prepared for that.

Marta won’t take you many helpful places as it is very limited so please do plan for several rideshares to get around. We also tend to get a lot of rain around that time.

The Beltline is very popular for exercise, exploring and people watching. Ponce City Market has a food hall and shopping. Colony Square was recently redesigned and has a food hall and a few great restaurants.

I echo the Botanical Gardens and Atlanta History Center. The High Museum of art is worth a Google to see if the exhibit is interesting. The Savanah College of Art & Design often features unique exhibitions so that’s another idea. We also have the College Football Hall of Fame which is really fun for football fans.

Happy to keep helping.

It depends on what you are used to. We live in Athens, which is about a hour north of Atlanta. I'll be honest, I'm a Georgian for about 5 generations down, southern from the 1700s. I hate Atlanta proper and avoid it as much as I can. I'll go to the Fox every once in a while but park as close as I can. We used to love to go into Atlanta when we were kids, back in the 60s but not now. When we do go in and spend the night (say for a Braves game) we park our car at the hotel and use Uber to get around. We have used the Marta trains maybe 3 times in my life time. If you are used to big Urban cities, you might enjoy it and there are a few places worth visiting if you are already there.

It depends on your interests and some good things have already been mentioned. I used to go to Atlanta a lot for work, and here's some things I have enjoyed over the years.

College Football Hall of Fame
Coca Cola
Centennial Olympic Park (where Coke and the College hall are located)
Ponce City Market
Mary Mac's Tea Room
Mercedes Benz Stadium
Truist Park

As you can see lots of food and sports, as that's what interests me!

Mary Mac's is cool for an old style southern food experience.
