Anyone use Jergens Natural Glow Moisturizer to get a warm glow to their skin?

I saw a commercial for this recently and it appealed to me more than just using a straight tanning lotion. I used to love sunbathing so I was tan in the summer but the risk of skin cancer just isn't worth it to me anymore.

This product is basically a regular moisturizer that when used on a daily basis will give your skin a warm glow over a period of time. It says it takes 1 week of daily use to achieve the full color. I picked it up at Target and they had 3 shades to choose from: Fair, medium, and medium/tanned.

If anyone has used it, what are your experiences with it? Does anyone know if there are any drawbacks to using it? I guess I wonder about whether applying the chemicals to my body on a continual basis would be bad or not. I'm thinking it can't be that bad or they wouldn't have the product on the market, but I just worry about things like that!

My Mom uses this stuff everyday all year around I dont see any draw backs she loves it.

I use the Loreal version of it and love it. Much more forgiving than the self tanners. I've heard that Oil of olay lotion is really good too!

I'm on day 3 of it right now. Apparently it doesn't react well with my body chemistry, because it smells like a blend of lemonade and sweat on me, ick!! If you google it, a lot of people don't like the smell, but it seems to get good ratings for color.

That's interesting Kirsten, because I am on day 3 of the Dollar General version that is packaged to look like Jergens (maybe made at the same plant?), and I love the smell when I am putting it on, but I was thinking an hour or so later that I smell funny.

I've also used the Vaseline version and liked it.

I use it! there are different "levels" of tanness you can get....I use "medium"...There is also one specifically made for your face. The smell doesn't bother me:)

I've used that, but I like the Banana Boat stuff better. I use the "fair skin", and it does a nice job. It doesn't look fake, and it looks pretty even. :)

I have been using the Jergens Natural Glow for fair skin for about 10 days. It does make a difference in my skin tone. I am extremely fair—like ghost white, and this stuff has given a subtle glow. It is not orangey, it looks natural. I refuse to tan in the sun for fear of wrinkles and cancer, and this really does look nice. Plus it dries quickly and I have not had problems with it coming off on my clothes or anything. I will say that the coloring is much lighter than a dark natural tan, and I don’t think it is going to continue to get darker over time and repeated use, but the glow it gives is good enough for me.

I've used it and couldn't stand the smell either. You can get the same effect by mixing a self-tanner (I like Bain de Soleil) with your regular moisturizer.

I used it and couldn't take the smell. I am now using the Oil of Olay version and it has a very light scent about like regular lotion. I don't even smell it once it soaks in. The color is very subtle too. No streaks.

Good call, I didn't even think about that. I've been missing my Bath and Bodyworks lotion!:goodvibes

The Jergens makes me smell funny about an hour or so later as well. Someone on another thread mentioned the Oil of Olay and Banana Boat versions, so I'm going to give them a try next.

I hate the smell. I used it 2x I think and now its just sitting on my shelf.

make sure to wash your hands after applying it. It will stain if you don't

I used it last spring so I wouldn't look like a ghost the first time I put on shorts, and am using it again this year. The smell doesn't bother me and it just makes my skin have some color. I don't use it on my knees or ankles though. When I did last year, it looked like my joint creases were dirty so I just avoid those areas.

Oh thank goodness I thought it was just me that it made smell. My daughters tell me I smell like saltine crakers(i really do, my husband will even say "are you wearing the cracker lotion) This was with the Jergens so I tried the Dove and it had the same smell oh well I love the way it makes my skin look. So much healthier!!

Thanks for all of your replies. I wonder what that strange residual smell is caused by?

Another question: Once you reach the maximum darkness of the color level you chose, if you want it darker are you supposed to go up to the next level of darkness or are the color levels based on what your normal skin tone is?

For instance, I just bought the Jergen's Natural Glow for medium skin tones. Once I use it and reach the maximum darkness, should I get the next one up (I think it was called medium/sun tan, or something like that) or would that end up looking weird?

I got the Neutrogena brand in the medium skin tone and I only used it once and saw some color. Very subtle but not orange or streaks or problems around my ankles like I usually have. The only problem is like everyone else is having is after about an hour I smell that self tanner "stink" that I dislike so much.

I think what I will do is put it on a couple hours before I go to bed (I'm single so it doesn't really matter :rotfl: ) and then I will wash the stink off when I shower the next morning.

I guess they just haven't perfected giving us good color without any side effects for everyone and that we can all use and afford.

It has a new scent this year! The old one was bad. I use it everyday & I look fabulous

I don't use the Jergens one, but I've been using Nivea Sun-Kissed Firming Moisturizer and LOVE IT. It has a subtle, pleasant fragrance (it smells vaguely familiar, but I can't place it) and works well. I'm not sure on the "firming" aspect of it as yet, but the self-tanner definitely works (I've already got something of a tan from working outside, but I noticed color from the lotion between my fingers from a few times when I forgot to wash my hands after applying it. It wasn't obnoxious, just enough for me to see that yeah, it does provide some color.)
