DS has been saving many paychecks for a Sony NEX VG 20 camcorder/lens combo. B&H had it for under $1700 for a few weeks, DS got paid and was within $100...only to find they just raised the price to $1900 :headache: Ryther has it on their website for $1769 so I suggested to DS to call B&H and see. He will be at work tomorrow, so I thought I might offer him some encouragement if anyone on here knows or has had any luck with price matching? He is a film major ao while he can wait 3 more weeks for the next paycheck, (and hopefully Ryther doesn't end their sale)it would be great to have the camera for upcoming projects. Also, has anyone used Ryther?
We gave him the GoPro Hero black for Christmas, now I wish we had given him cash to have avoided missing the sale...tho he does love that Go Pro!:thumbsup2

Thanks so much

It depends upon the item. B&H has price-matched Amazon.com sometimes, but you have to call and ask them about it.

The worst thing that can happen is they decline.

I had never heard of Ryther, so I did a search and came across many bad reviews interspersed with a few ok ones. Consistently the reviews, stated their prices were for gray market items and after you made the purchase they attempt to upsell you to a US market item. Their customer service was consistently rated as bad. This sounds like another of those companies that quotes prices that are too good to be true. So be careful.

And so the OP knows... Gray market means an item that was not meant for sale in the US. It's usually the same item just without the US warranty. If he's a film major he needs the warranty. He's going to put that camera through some hard use.

You can call and ask. Perhaps on diffrent days even... You could try adorama as well...

Does Ryther charge shipping? Everything I got from B&H. If Ryther does charge how much is it? If so, does it make that much difference in price.

B&H definitely will not price match the retailer in question. B&H doesn't price match grey market or "fly by night" sellers.

Thanks everyone. DS was leary of Ryther, hence hoping B&H would price match. It's just frustrating as he missed the sale by 1 paycheck....(darn those Christmas gifts he bought, lol) Yeah, we understand gray market and appreciate the advice. It has to be the US version as well, absolutely for the warranty and compatability as well. Actually, I see the E - European model listing $150+ higher anyways, even if that is what he was after. Well, here's hoping B&H will maybe come down a bit , is anything, based on haveing just had it at a lower price.
SplasMo....Adorama is $80 higher than B&H right now, but much lower than Amazon

Compatibility shouldn't be an issue with gray market. It shouldn't be PAL. Not that I'm trying to convince you to go gray market. In this case I totally wouldn't. Just pointing out that they're often the exact same item. It just comes down to the way they were imported.

Another plus if you buy from B&H is their great customer service. They've always been very good when I've had to use it. Adorama has been OK when I've used them. Calumet also has very good service but is sometimes more expensive than the others.

well, DS called B&H but they can't go back to the sale price they had last week...nor can they match Ryther, it is based on Sony's numbers. They were very nice in talking with him. He will just have to wait another few (looooooong) weeks until the next paycheck. Good thing is, through all this he feels best about purchasing through B&H. All of your posts have been helpful, thanks!

The times I've dealt with B&H I've never been pressured to buy what I didn't need. Whenever in doubt they would ask what I would use it for and have said it looks like you don't need it. They do know what they are talking about. They come across as being ethical.
