If you have split mattresses, do you like it? Do you have completely separate sheets and blankets on both mattresses. The sales person said a lot of people do a fitted sheet on each one and then a king for the flat sheet and the blankets. Any disadvantages or regrets with the split mattress?

Isn't that just 2 twins pushed together?

Not exactly. Twin size isn't as long as king, and twin XL side by side would be slightly wider than King. It would need to be split specifically unless they're calling it something like double twin. I have seen king size mattress sets where the box springs were split. They weren't just two twin box springs.

The mattress industry mostly makes to order. The last time we bought a set, we had delivery in three days, and the manufacturing date (on the tag) was the day after our order. I've also bought from a factory sale and got to see how customizable the process can be. The craziest thing I've heard of is special mattresses for tall people. I read an article about NBA teams checking into hotels. They work with the same hotels year after year, and they'll bring out the extra long beds.

Assuming the sales person is correct, two twin XL equal one king. It just seems like it will be difficult to make the bed if we have separate fitted sheets. We want an adjustable base so hence the split beds so we can each operate our own sides.

I didn't even know there was such a thing as a split king

Based on the couple mattress stores we shopped at today, they are quite popular it seems. I think it is because more people are buying the adjustable base like we want. While you can get a normal king mattress and the adjustable base, we'd both have to agree with the position of our heads/feet. The split solves that problem, but I don't want to struggle with sheets every week. I'm having flashbacks to my DD's loft bed when she was young. I think that's where she learned all the swear words possible when would make that bed!

We have a split King. DH prefers to sleep on a super firm mattress, I do not so we did a split King. We use one King sheet, but we don't have an adjustable base. I like it just fine. You can tell there that it is two separate mattresses when you lay on it, but since we keep to our own side for sleeping it's fine. If you like to cuddle I would say it's not a good fit. They do make split king sheets for adjustable bases where the bottom half is one sheet and the top half is two. Not sure if that's any easier to make than just two twin sheets.

We have one and like it a lot. We decided on the split because it is adjustable so one of us could stay up reading or something while the other sleeps. We use 2 twin xl fitted sheets and the rest is king size bedding. No regrets and one advantage we had not really considered is the fact that tossing and turning won't wake up the other person.

They used to make a "swing-away frame" for the split king, my ex and I had one. But when I wanted to do that again, I couldn't find the frame anymore. It made making the bed so much easier when you could separate the foot of the beds. I used all separate bedding, that way nobody could hog the blankets.

Twin XL is 39 inches wide. King is 76 inches wide. So two together should be 2 inches wider than king. You might be able to stretch a king fitted sheet.

We have one, we do separate fitted sheets and everything else king sized. We mostly like it but sometimes the two separate a little too much. and have to be pushed together. Making the bed is a little more difficult, but not bad. It is nice because you don't feel your partner turning. We like our own space for sleeping, but if you like to be close it wouldn't work as well.

Some manufactures say 38" wide and some 39". Two twinxl mattresses equal a king. You use two separate fitted sheets. It won't work using one. Most people do use one top sheet like my wife and I do. You can buy individual sets for each side though. Raise the head and foot up and making the bed is easy.

Thanks everyone! We are going to go for it. I am far more excited about the adjustable bed portion of it. New mattresses will be nice, but I think I am going to love the adjustable aspect of it!

Not sure what you decided to go with but, there are some good sales going on right now or starting this week for Memorial Day. Now is a great time.

We have one also & its the best. I'm a tosser/turner so it would wake DH up when I moved a lot. Now he doesn't notice it. I use regular mattress pad/ sheets and it works just fine.

Ours works using a normal king size fitted sheet :) Oops just saw people were talking about adjustable beds. That wouldn't work lol.

We have a split adjustable king. Can't use a king sheet since the beds are adjustable. We use the twin XL sheets, twin blankets and a king comforter. We wanted electric blankets, so 2 twins was much cheaper than getting 1 king electric blanket.

I didn't think ahead of time to order sheets online and when the bed arrived, I had trouble finding twin XL sheets quickly. I found some at Walmart that were left over from Back to School sales (XL for dorm beds), but they ended up being very low quality and I don't like them. I did find some Cannon sheets that I really like.

I am happy to read this question and all the answers. I would love to have a split king adjustable, and I was also wondering how the bedding would work. If your top sheet/blanket is king size, does it cause a problem if one person raises the foot but not the other?

We have two XL twins pushed together. The total width doesn't matter because we use separate XL twin sheets. The only thing we do differently from pps is that DH likes a top sheet and I don't so there's an extra step to making his bed. I like using just the king-sized duvet for my covers. Easier to make my side, too. Raising the head, fitting the sheet, lowering the head, raising the foot and then fitting the sheet is really easy, even with a bad back.

I'm having a hard time finding sheets I like. Some places have something called a Split King sets. It is two twin xl fitted sheets and one king flat plus pillowcases. I'd prefer to buy two twin xl fitted sheets separately and we will just use our current flat king sheet which is only a few months old. Unfortunately, many of the twin xl sheets that are sold separately are the lower quality dorm sheets. DH likes a stiff, starched feeling sheet and I like a really soft sheet. I was hoping we would each be able to order one in the "feel" that we like, but it is such slim pickings that I don't think that will happen.
