Anyone else being forced to change a booking at the Grand Floridian this January?

NFL Pro Bowl festivities start on January 30th in Orlando. Not sure if the dates line up, but that’s going to bring some VIPs into town toward the end of the month.
She stated the end of January. That's a match. Where does the money go to that Disney will make off this?

They are 100% kicking you out for a VIP. It’s not overbooked. When they overbook, they call you right after you book. And they tell the person who overbooked, meaning the last person who booked. It’s happened to us twice. Once we got a call right after we booked. Another time it was a few days after. They don’t call you after you’ve been booked for 11 months. You just need to keep escalating.

Yeah - my first thought reading this was VIP guest or at the very least DVC was supposed to hold rooms out of inventory for VIP guests- I mean - how can you overbook DVC unless there’s a system problem…

Two bedroom and One bedroom villas at the VGF are no where near equivalent in terms of "wow" factor to the Grand Villa. It doesn't even compare to other Grand Villas, since there is technically a 4th bedroom. Some options I would consider equivalent for rebooking:

-two Cascade cabins at WL
-Theme Park View Grand Villa at Contemporary + studio
-two Bungalows at the Poly
-two Penthouse suites at the Poly
-Riviera preferred view Grand Villa + studio

And free multi-pass Lightning lanes for the whole party for length of trip (to make up for not staying at the resort you originally chose).

The bungalows and cabins are rarely fully booked. I would think they can make that happen for you?

Every time I read these stories, the compensation never seems to make up for the disruption. At least if it were a 2BR at another resort there would be an upgrade possibility, but you're basically at the best room at the best resort. I really hope they take care of you, since it sounds like you did everything right and they dropped the ball. Don't settle for some $200 a day voucher or some junk like that.
I think your room, wherever it ends up being, should be fully comped.

Let's assume the room went to a VIP. Pretty sure every other comparable option would also be booked with VIPs.

It’s been 3 days since OP started this thread. Without further response it did get me wondering…

First come first serve should be the priority should something happen making a room unavailable. However, what if it is just one date in question and it just so happens OP was the only GV checking in on that day?

I believe that there are some roof issues at GF...still. But more to the point, I'd say that this has more to do with the dates than with anything else. The length and dates of this stay almost surely best meet the requirements to close the room.

Anyway, good luck. And make sure to turn down the first couple compensation (recovery) they offer you.

Two free bungalows at the Poly plus some comped meals at Ohana would be my pick. And I would hold firm that Disney needs to comp the entire room wherever that is...or move someone else.

Free rooms, food, tours!!! It would be cheaper for Disney to settle a lawsuit from OP- if it can even be proved Disney did anything wrong...
