Annual pass renewal/new purchase AFTER the 30 day expiration

We currently have annual passes that are set to expire in August. I know that we have 30 days after the expiration date to renew. I believe there is a discount associated with the renewal and that the renewed passes will then expire in August of the following year.

IF we let the passes expire and do not renew and then want to purchase them again in a few months --November--Are they considered "new" passes and thus expire 1 year from the new Activation (November) as opposed to the original renewal date of August.

I feel the only negatives to this would be that I would be loosing out on the discount and run the risk of the passes not being available at the time I would want them (although i think that is less likely)

They are indeed considered new passes and will expire one year from the new activation date. We are doing this too, but will renew in December.

I recently did this. There is a 15% discount for renewal, equal to 1 1/2 months. I knew I wouldn’t be able to go back for 3 months so let it lapse. It is then treated as a new purchase and validity expires 1 year from date of first park entry. The inactivated pass is good for one year from purchase date. If you don’t enter a park by then it reverts to the cash value toward a new ticket.

I didn’t worry that the pass wouldn’t be available to purchase. The aftermath of the pandemic has settled down. Reports are that the park crowds are less. I still haven’t replaced my DH’s pass. If I get nervous, I will purchase the pass and I’m pretty sure we’ll activate it within a year.

Apologies to the OP...I do not mean to hijack the thread. My AP is also due to expire on August 26th this year. To qualify for the 15% off, do I have 30 days after August 26th to renew with the discount? Or, do I need to renew before August 26th to qualify for the discount? I assume that if I do renew with the discount, the next expiration date will be August 26 of 2025? Do I have that right?

Yes. There is a grace period after expiration of the pass to renew with the discount. The expiration will be 1 year from the expiration date of the pass renewed.

Your ability to renew will be reflected in your MDE account. Your AP will show a renewal function for 30 days past expiration. At least, mine did.
