I think I know this answer, but I thought I would post just in case!! Our DS's have peanut/tree nut allergies. They are both able to eat rice krispy treats. We make our own at home with chocolate and sprinkles. They would love to have this at Goofy's, but I worry about cross contamination issues. Has anyone with nut allergies ever had this at WDW?

same problem here. there is a nut warning on everything we picked up in all the candy and dessert stores in all of WDW. watch out in the ice cream shops also. most of the ice cream bars in the push carts are ok.

my son has a peanut allergy and he has no problem eating an y of the chocoaltes from disney.. or any of teh icecreams he has had a mickey rice crispy treat no problems for him.. just make sure you get a regular one becasue they do make a peanut butter one if i rememebr right....

trust me, dont listen to this advice. just look at the allergy warnings on the ingredient list on each product. no offense intended to the poster.

your advice is sound but almost everything you pick up has a peanut warning on it.... I choose to allow my son the freedom of choice why totally keep him away from stuff and isolate him when it is not needed.. M7ms for instance... their is a warning on it.. I allowed my son to try one he would know almost imstantly if he was gonna react.. actually he is so sensitivethat justthe touch would prob of set him off.. but it did not.. so he know enjoys m&ms, most cereals and almost all icecreams, cakes, and chocolates, we are always ready and prepared with benadryl and an epi phen just in case.. I have always taken the road that my son has to learn to adapt to our world.
The poster asked and i told I did not say her son would have the same reaction I simply stated that my son who is horribly allergic to peanuts and nuts had absolutely no problems with suckers, sour gummies, chocolate chip cookies, mickey ice cream bars, mickey rice krispy treats and we even had teh kitchen sink at beaches and cream (with strawberry, mintchocolate chip vanilla chocoalate whip cream, chocoalte syrup, and cherries)

My son has a peanut allergy and I *heed* the warning labels at Disney. While I do allow my son to have the packaged Rice Krispie treats that you can get in the grocery store, I do not allow him to eat the ones at Disney because I do not know there manufacturing process.

I understand what the poster ruttie is getting at. A lot of manufacturers are putting these labels on the food unnecessarily because, even though their manufacturing might be safe, they don't want ANY responsibility.

Still...WDW is not a place where I want to find that out.

I do know several children who have reacted to regular M&Ms so there are peanut traces in them and, as far as I know, always have been. We avoid those.

As for the Mickey Ice Cream bars--it used to be that they were considered safe, then for awhile at least, the manufacture wouldn't guarantee it. I continued to let my son eat these because they had not changed anything about the manufacturing process. They were just 'covering' themselves.

Several years ago, we ate at Citricos and they have a chocolate eclair dessert called "Dog Bones". The chef came out and discussed what type of chocolate went into the dessert and we deemed it "safe". This year, they said that they were getting their chocolate from various sources and that it could not be deemed safe. So, no dog bones this year.:sad2:

Just do what you feel comfortable with.

I received an e-mail from Brenda Bennett and a chef at WDW for our upcoming trip a couple of weeks ago regarding the mickey bars. I know there has been uncertainty as to whether they are safe for those with peanut allergies. I was told that the manufacturer has, in fact, confirmed that they are peanut-free and not manufactured on the same equipment with peanuts or tree nuts.

My DH has had one or two bars and did not have a reaction, but I stopped buying them bc of the uncertainty and he ate Itzakadoozies for a while. I think we will let himhave a bar this trip.

Thanks for that! During one of our many trips, this was all "up in the air" and my son also spent a lot of time eating the Itzakadoozies (which were disappointing!!). Anyway, for a period of time I couldn't get confirmation--only that they hadn't changed their practices from early bars that used to be "safe." So, I made a decision and was tense whenever he ate one. I'm so glad to hear that this has been settled.

disney isso awesome about food allergies we feel confodent when ever we go to a new restraunt teh chef will always come out and talk to you about your fears. Thanks for the confirmation about the mickey bars.. We just keep crossing our fingers about the m&ms so far so good, but if they are mixed in a dish with peanut ones forget it his finger starts to swell from just the touch....
the only restraunt we have ever had a problem with was the food court at coronado springs my son cannot sepnd 5 ,imutes in there before the hives start comingout....

We find very few limitations with our DS who has a peanut allergy. One thing that I won't let him have is the individually made treats at Goofy's. I had a Rice Krispy Treat, dipped in chocolate then covered in M&Ms, and I found a peanut in mine. Those are too easy to have cross contamination.
