I have been looking and looking. Some people love them some hate them. I'm tired of looking. Please post a good Christmas Cut-Out Cookie Receipe.

This is what I usually use:

Sugar Cookies
Yield: 5 – 6 dozen

1 1/3 c shortening
1½ c sugar
2 tsp vanilla
2 eggs
8 tsp milk (2 Tbl + 2 tsp)
4 c flour
3 tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt (optional)

Cream shortening, sugar & vanilla. Add eggs & milk. Beat until fluffy. Blend in dry ingredients. Divide in half & chill one hour. Roll & cut out. Bake 8 – 10 minutes at 375.

ETA: I just thought I'd share my grandmother's recipe - exactly as written in her "Cookie booklet." ;) BTW - It really means to chill the house. The dough doesn't get sticky as easily that way. It just makes me smile at the lack of detail - like how long to bake them. Her answer would have been "Until they look right!" I'm surprised she gave a measure for the flour. Most of her recipes just said "flour" and again, if asked, her answer would have been "Until they look right!" ;) I really miss her!

Sugar Cookies
from Grandmom
2 c butter
2 c sugar
4 eggs
6 Tbl milk
2 tsp vanilla
6 c flour
4 tsp baking powder
Chill the house. Roll out thin. (Use xxxx sugar & flour to keep from sticking to rolling pin.) Bake at 350.

At many of the warehouse and/or wholesale food outlets (such as Gordon Food Service in our area) you can purchase frozen, pre-cut/shaped cookies. Just pop on a tray and bake 'em up. Believe it or not these are my family and friends favorites! Several years ago I went back to making the dough, chilling, rolling, cutting, etc....and was asked why I changed my recipe?????!!!!

These pre-cuts make those thick cookies with a nice buttery flavor to them. That along with canisters of white frosting that I tint is now my staple Christmas cookie recipe. Everyone loves it, so why mess with perfection as the saying goes!

I don't have a from scratch recipe for cut out cookies, but I do like Duncan Hines Golden Sugar Cookie mix, any time I have made it everyone really likes it. The trick with them though is not to over bake them. If they get lightly browned, they are overdone and too hard.

Okay, this is not a sugar/butter cookie recipes, but gingerbread. It's the best.

1 box of spice cake mix
2 t. ground ginger
1/3 cup dark molasses
1/3 vegetable oil
2 eggs
1/2 cup flour

Chill dough for 2 hours in fridge

Roll on floured surface and cut; bake for 8-10 (or until edges look set)minutes at 375.

They are moist, chewy and oh so good.

SUGAR COOKIES

1 1/2 Cups powdered sugar
1 Cup Butter softened
1 Tsp Vanilla
1/2 Tsp Almond Extract ( I usually only use 1 1/2 tsp vanilla and not the Almond extract due to nut allergies)
1 Egg
2 1/2 Cups all purpose Flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cream of tarter

Mix sugar, butter, vanilla, extract and egg. Stir in remaining ingredients. Cover and refrigerate at least 3 hours.

Heat oven 375 degrees

Divide dough into halves. Roll on lightly floured surface and cut into desired shapes. Place on lightly greased cookie sheet (Note I do not grease my pans but use Parchment paper which is found in the grocery aisle in the backing section, your cookies will be uniform and not likely to over brown. Also saves on cleanup.) Bake until lightly brown. 7 to 8 minutes.

You can either color your dough with food coloring, or ice with the following receipe. Very simple yet delicious.

Creamy Vanilla Frosting

3 Cups powdered Sugar
1/3 Cup butter softened
1 1/2 teasponns vanilla
About 2 tablespoons Milk.

Mix sugar and butter, stir in vanilla and milk. If desired add more milk for smoother frosting. Careful not to add to much.

I usually do not color my dough, but I alway color the frosting depending on which holiday. Example red and green for Christmas, Orange for Holloween, pink, yellow and green for Easter.

When you frost your cooled cookies you can also sprinkle colored candies, sugar or jimmies on them. I found after a frost a couple of cookies I dip them face down in the candies and tap off the excess.

Makes about 4 dozen cookies - I usually double the receipe

Get ready for the praise these make the lightest and most flavorable cookies. I now have to make them every holiday for the family, work and the dance studio everyone raves about them.

Thanks for all the replies. I have to admit when I seen the post about the cookies you can get from GFS I thought to myself "Hell Yeah". I went out and got them. You can't beat 72 pre cut cookies for $9.99. Anyway, we are going to do the cookie thing tonight. I hope they're good. Thanks for the info. :jumping4: :jumping4: :jumping4:
