I notice that this coming week is Aldi's Italian week. A couple of the products look really good, but am looking for reviews, specifically:

-Priano Breaded Veal Patties
-Priano Risotto
-Priano Pasta Sauces (Arriabiatta, vodka and Alfrado Sauce)

Thanks!

Love the green Pesto sauce!

I like the risotto. You didn't ask, but the pizzelles (sp?) are good too.

we buy a lot of their regular pasta sauce --- add a few spices and you'll never know it came out of a jar.

We bought the refrigerated tortelleni a few weeks ago. The taste of it was fine, but it took a LOT longer to get soft than it says on the package. I tossed them into a soup just like I did with some frozen ones for the same recipe.. my greens in the soup got over cooked in the time it took for the tortelleni to be soft and tender. I find that cook times are not accurate on a lot of store brand products, Target branded items also take MUCH longer than what the label states.

i picked up lasagna noodles and ricotta. they were just as good as anyother brand and i saved about $1.50 just on those two items compared to if i would have bought them at wegmans. lately i have doing most of my shopping at aldis. i have never really had any product i disliked. i dont think you'll have a problem with anythiing you bought there.

what i do when cooking tortellini is prebiol it in water before i toss them into soup. i usually cook them in the water for the amount of time it states on the package and then throw them in your soup. i do this no matter where i get them. they always seem to take longer than the package states.

I bought some of their gnocchi this week (sp?) and would never buy it again. I served it with the vodka sauce and I don't think I would buy that again either, seemed salty.

THE REASON THAT ALDI PASTAS TAKE LONGER TO COOK IS BECAUSE:

"Under Italian law, dry pasta (pasta asciutta) can only be made from durum wheat flour or durum wheat semolina.[7] Durum flour and durum semolina have a yellow tinge in colour. Italian pasta is traditionally cooked al dente (Italian: lit. "to the tooth", meaning not too soft). Outside Italy, dry pasta is frequently made from other types of flour (such as wheat flour), but this yields a softer product that cannot be cooked al dente the same way. There are many types of wheat flour with varying gluten and protein content depending on variety of grain used."

The above was taken from Wikipedia UNDER: "PASTA"

I RECOMMEND THAT YOU LOOK AT THE INGREDIENTS IN ALDI'S BRAND'S MADE IN ITALY & THE BRANDS OF PASTA MADE & SOLD IN THE USA...MOST BRANDS MADE HERE ARE FULL OF PRESERVATIVES AND OTHER CHEMICAL'S IN MOST OF THE ALDI'S BRANDS THE INGREDIENTS ARE SIMPLE "SEMOLINA" "WHEAT & TRACES OF EGG"...I LIKE MOST ITALIAN'S PREFER AL-DENTE MEANING MORE RIGID NOT TOO SOFT... I'D TRY COOKING THE PASTA LONGER @ FIRST NEXT TIME THEN THE SOUP...

I LOVE ITALIAN WEEK AT ALDI I MARVEL AT THE VARIETIES OF PASTAS & SAUCES THAT TAKE ME BACK TOO ITALY... THE FROZEN LASAGNA FOR $7.99 IS AWESOME & ALL THE TORTELLINI, TORTELLONI & RAVIOLI VARIETIES & THE SAUCE'S OH MY GOSH WISH THEY CARRIED THESE ITEMS EVERYDAY BUT ESPECIALLY THE PORCINI MUSHROOM RAVIOLI & TORTELLONI THAT "DO NOT REQUIRE REFRIGERATION" UNLIKE THE OLD DIGORNO BRAND REBRANDED BUITONI IN THE SAME TYPE PACKAGING THAT "NEEDS REFRIGERATION" FOR A DOLLAR OR MORE LESS...

I COULD NOT AFFORD TO EAT NEARLY AS WELL AS I DO, IF IT WERE NOT FOR ALDI'S & THERE IMPORTED STORE BRAND'S...FROM GERMANY, ITALY & OTHER EUROPEAN COUNTRIES...THE CHOCOLATE'S MADE IN GERMANY ARE A BIG WOW...

THE EXTRA BONUS IS THAT ALDI ITALIAN MADE PASTA'S ARE GMO FREE UNLIKE ALL BRANDS MADE IN USA UNLESS STATED OTHER WISE... IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT GMO IS I RECOMMEND YOU LOOK IT UP BECAUSE IT IS EVIL IN MY OPINION...

I just checked Mueller's, Barilla's and Ronzoni's websites. All use durum wheat semolina in the making of their products.

Mueller's, Barilla and Ronzoni are GMO free. In fact, durum wheat has not been genetically modified, so a GMO version of durum wheat is not available to be used by any manufacturer in making durum wheat semolina pasta.

Our ad showed the 3 pack Romaine lettuce for .99, Mushrooms .69/8 oz., Peppers 3/$1 Bargain!

I made their garlic breadsticks last night (they come in a can, like refridgerated biscuits). We thought they were pretty good. I love hearing what everyone else likes at Aldis'! I can't say enough about how I love their salsa. It is better than any salsa I have bought at a store- anywhere.

I haven't been to Aldi's for quite some time, but sounds like there may be some good deals. I have a day off tomorrow - maybe I'll check it out. THanks for the reviews and heads up!

Those are big name brands that will cost more than Aldi's Priano brand for sure...I 2 went to all 3 sites & 2 claimed to be GMO free that I found & they were Ronzoni & Mueller's & I found that info in the FAQ section...when in Barilla's site they avoided talking about there pasta containing GMO's and instead said their sauce was GMO free... "something to hide about there pasta maybe" also on Barilla's site they say that they use all American product's in there pasta's here in the USA, unless labeled a product of Italy!!!

As for my comment on GMO's I did not say that Wheat had GMO's!!! I personally like the stuffed pasta's like Cannelloni/Manicotti, Tortellini, Tortelloni & Ravioli's...That is where you can get the GMO's because of the Soy, Canola, Corn & Cotton Seed Oil's...&...Sugar Beets that are from GMO crop's grown in the USA & also Dairy & Animal product's because animals are fed grain's that contain GMO's as well as the horror that Monsanto created called "Posilac" now owned by Eli Lilly that is injected into most Dairy Cows...But you won't find any of that in Italy!!! Where in the USA over 90% of all Soy, Canola, Corn, Cotton & Sugar Beet's are GMO product's...

I hope this clears up what I was meaning/trying to say about GMO's... If it was misleading in anyway by insinuating that it was from the Wheat I humbly apologize...

"I forgot to reply to this sorry, look at the quote from Wikipedia"

"Outside Italy, dry pasta is frequently made from other types of flour (such as wheat flour), but this yields a softer product that cannot be cooked al dente the same way."

Meaning some pastas also use enriched bleached soft wheat flour & other soft variety's of Wheat besides Durum Wheat Semolina that make it too soft to be cooked aldente...:lmao::lmao:

Last time they had Italian week, I bought the vodka sauce, Alfredo sauce, boxed risotto, refrigerated and frozen ravioli and tortellini. All of them were good. The pizelles are also good. They also have canned Italian style diced tomatoes this week. Those are yummy.

I went to Aldi yesterday, and they had 8 oz packs of fresh mushrooms for 49 cents. They also had 2 packs of green peppers for 49 cents.

I shop at Aldi regularly, and have only bought 2 things that I didn't care for. IMO, that's a pretty good track record. :)

Aldi's weekly ad for Italian week should end the 28th because the new ads always start Wednesday.

Yes, but they just won't stock more of the items. They will just sell what's on the shelves until they're gone.

I have tried the frozen meat tortellini. They were good! I bought some of the vodka sauce last night, but I haven't tried it yet.
