Please move this as needed. We are renting a car in 2 weeks and I am pretty sure we will be going through some of those tolls where you don't actually pay, they just take a pic of your license plate and bill you. Can anyone tell me how this works with Alamo? TIA

Here is the information on the car rental toll programs. Looks like with Alamo you are charged $3.95 per day that it is used plus the tolls.

You may want to look into this. It's new and it is free to use - you just have to pay for the tolls. I have not used it myself yet, but after seeing a couple posts about it on here am going to try it out for our upcoming trip this month. This is only applicable if you are renting from and returning the car to MCO.

If you are only in the Orlando area, it looks like there is only one toll road that is strictly pay by plate. If you are leaving the area and going tom Miami/Fort Lauderdale area you will definitely encounter this. But everything else in Orlando area (at least according to the Sunpass website) has cash lanes too.

Through the Sunpass website, you also have the option to purchase a mini-transponder, which is about $5 and good for one trip, plus any tolls. We tried that out to see how it worked with the billing. You prepay an amount, we put $10 on it, and when that is used up it reloads in $10 increments.

Since we travel to Florida two or three times per year and often in and out of two different airports, we decided to purchase a regular transponder ($19.95). Our upcoming trip will be the first time using it, but it seems similar to the EZ-Pass transponder we have in NY.

I’m glad they made the transponder available to purchase in this way for out of state travelers. No more stopping for the constant tolls, and the $3.95 per day that the rental companies offer is a rip-off!

https://visitortollpass.com/ With Visitor Toll Pass, you no longer have to pay the Fee of $3.95 per day plus tolls that Alamo charges. Also, when you sign up, the tolls are even discounted. After you sign up online, you just pick up your Tag that you hang from your rear view mirror. The desk is right near the door at the airport you go through to pick up your car. The Toll Plate readers that you drive through will read this hang tag and you will be only charged for the discounted tolls. Click the link and read more about how this works. We loved it. Easy, Fast and Cheap :)

As noted above, you must rent and return at MCO to use this free service.

If you are only driving between the airport (either MCO or Sanford) and WDW, all toll booths on the way accept cash. If you take 417 and exit at Osceola Pkwy, you must have some quarters. All other toll booths on the way are attended 24 hours a day. (If you make a grocery or fuel stop on the way, you may also run into an exact change toll.)

I think the Alamo toll program is automatic, with no opt-in required. If you pay all your tolls in cash, there will be no fees. If you miss a cash toll, Alamo's toll service will charge you the full undiscounted toll plus one day's fee.

I just returned and followed the recommendations here and did the Visitor Toll pass on my Alamo rental. Very easy. My drive to WDW from MCO and back was $3.86 total in tolls.

Sadly we aren't returning the rental to MCO. And we will be taking FL turnpike to Ocala. Planning on paying all tolls I can and hoping for the best.

The Turnpike north of Orlando and 429 from the WDW Western Way exit to the Turnpike all accept cash and are fully attended. You should be able to go with cash, but if not, it's only a few dollars extra on Alamo's toll plan.

When you're paying an attendant, it wouldn't hurt to ask for a receipt, just in case Alamo tries to charge you later.

ETA: In case you're not aware, the cash toll booths are usually off to the right of the main highway; you'll have to keep right onto an exit ramp to pay cash.

Awesome, thank you!

We rented from Alamo at the CCC a couple years ago for one day for a trip to KSC and we did the $3.95 plus tolls. It was IMO the easiest thing for one day.

The nice things about Alamo is they only charge you the $3.95 for the days you use a toll both. Some rental agencies charge you each day you have the car so with a seven day plus rental it can add up.
