Can someone please tell me if the food is good there. I have five kids and they are all picky eaters. I made the reservations because it has the Princeses, but after seeing the menu I am rethinking that idea and just going to the Garden Grill with Chip and Dale. Any suggestions, please help.

We were just there for the breakfast. Breakfast was delicious! :)

Has anyone eaten at Akershus for lunch or dinner recently? Do you still order your hot food and then go to the buffet bar for the cold food? Thanks for any info. :thumbsup2

We ate there in December 2005 for DD's 4th birthday. Yes, you still order your hot food then go through the buffet. With picky eaters, however, I would think long and hard about this restaurant - my daughter is only mildly picky and wouldn't eat A THING. While yes, the menu is to be expected because it's one of the countries in Norway, I think they should be slightly more aware of children's dietary "vagaries" and have something somewhat universally appealing to make sure the kids get some actual food in them between waiting for the princesses!

We loved the food here. My girls chose hot dogs for their meal but my husband and I loved the adult entrees! (BTW, I saw more than one adult eating the kids pasta plate!

The kids menu was full of kid friendly foods, imo. They had turkey and breads on the cold buffet in addition to lettuce and ranch dressing.
Here are the childrens entrees from allearsnet.com

Grilled Chicken Breast or Grilled Salmon
served with corn and boiled potatoes

Cheese Ravioli
served with cheesy cream sauce

Meatballs and Pasta
served with Tomato Sauce

Hot Dog
served with corn

Viking Turkey and Cheese Roll Up
Turkey and Cheese rolled up in Lefse,
served with grapes

Pizza
topped with mozzarella cheese

As of June 06, yes.

The breakfast is the usual breakfast fare and the kids will like it. Lunch and Dinner are a different story. That menu looks scary. :sad2:

We were there last December, early in the month, with low crowds, for dinner. Long wait to get in (don't even try to check in early), not allowing guests to sit inside (even though there are seats in the foyer and it was cold), seating VERY late guests well after their ADR time even though our ADR time had passed and we were early. Once the basic CS issues were out of the way, service was painfully slow, not much on the koltbord for children (even non-picky ones), characters were even slower (after 2 hours, I had to ASK for whomever we had missed). My food was OK, DDs were not impressed and my 7yo got food poisoning. Yep, upchucking all night and half the next day which happened to include our airplane ride home.

I had eaten at Akershus a couple of times before the Invasion of the Princesses and enjoyed it (although it was always slow service), but after this experience, it is a never again for dinner.

We ate there for dinner last year and well...It was NASTY to say the least. We will never walk back into that place again. YUCK!!!! I hear the breakfast is really tasty though, but I think pretty much everyone that has breakfast has about the same food menu don't they?

I'm ready to change my Dinner reservations for there. I just don't think we are going to like it. I booked it because of the princesses, DD8 and DD5 wanted to see princesses. Now what am I going to do? Does anybody have anything good to say about this place?

I thought the food was great at the lunch we had there in June. The cold bar had a wide variety of interesting foods and salads (only a little bit of fish!!) They had sausage (salami), turkey, muenster cheese, jarlsberg cheese, crackers, flat bread, and regular breads (wheat and white). There were cold salads- potato, beet, cucumber, tomato, and pasta. They also had greens and ranch dressing. My kids had plenty of choices from the cold bar- one had salad and bread and butter. The other had tomato salad, muenster cheese and bread and butter. They chose hot dogs w/ corn for their entree.

My dh had the "traditional" lunch which was like a big meatball w/ a sauce on top (you could ask for it w/o sauce I'm sure) and it was served with steamed veggies and mashed potatoes (they also had cheese and cauliflower in them but they were delicious). I had the soup and sandwich and it was great. It was an open faced salmon sandwich w/ a delicious mayo sauce and crumbled bacon on it. Fresh and tasty.

FWIW, we sat in the back room and we saw all the princesses before dessert with no problem. We also didn't notice any full plates of food going back to the kitchen. No one seemed repulsed by the food. If you don't like herring or smoked fish, just don't get it at the cold bar- there were other things available. I just looked at our pictures of the lunch and you can see 3 tables in most of the pictures, all the people were eating and seemed to be cleaning their plates.

Look carefully at the menus on allearsnet.com. Remember there is a separate kid's menu when you decide. They were very accommodating here, we saw at least one dad at another table order an adult sized order of the pasta and meatballs from the kid's menu.

The desserts were great. A large portion to share and the cheesecake was delicious, nice and light- the berry sauce was tart so if you aren't fond of that, ask them to hold it. The chocolate cake was good and the rice pudding w/ strawberries was amazing.

I'm gonna be brave and try it. I'm really the most picky eater in our family. I think we'll be ok.

The food is very good, but a lot of people don't care for the kind of food they have available. (Lunch and dinner only -- breakfast is "normal)

Just like you shouldn't go to Alfredo's if you don't like Italian or Biergarten if you don't like German food, you shouldn't go to Akershus if you don't like Norwegian food.

Garden Grill is a much "safer" choice if you're not feeling adventurous or don't like seafood. I love them both!

We are going to try this place again. We went before the princess storybook addition and I didn't really care for the place but my DH loved it!!! Since he's taking us to WDW again then I guess he can choose one place to eat!!! Actually the menu changes don't look so bad and now we have our 1st Disney princess who is 2 and so that will just be perfect for her. I'm sure my two DSs won't mind being kissed by a Disney princess either

A few years ago we were having dinner at the sci-fi drive in. Several of the kids couldn't find anything on the menu and we were going to leave when our waiter asked why we were leaving. We told him he said hey waite we can get them chicken tenders or a hamburger. He told us to never leave a WDW resturant with out asking it they have something else kids could order.

My husband loves all sorts of seafood, fish, etc, so i'm sure he'll like it. He'll eat anything. We tried Coral Reef in 2003 (2002 maybe), and didn't like it. Since there are so many options at Epcot, I'm going to start trying something different every trip.

We love Akershus...it's a very nice change from the typical food you find at most restaurants. Last year we ate there for dinner. I had the venison and it was extremely good. The cold salad and cheese plates they bring out are great as well. Kids enjoyed their meal too.
