Hello, sorry this is a little off topic but I am hoping that others might have suggestions for me. And it is about frugal living!
Yesterday a woman from my local freecycle listed a silicone bakeware set- 2 cake pans, a muffin pan and a bread pan. I emailed her and she said it was mine. I washed it in the dishwasher when I got home to clean it, but I noticed even after washing it that it smells like cigarette smoke. I guess the silicone absorbs nicotine or something? I am allergic to smoke and don't want to eat something that would smell or taste like that. My DH suggested soaking it in a thing of bleach water, but I am not sure that would be good for the bakeware, or good to cook with afterwards. Does anyone have any suggestions? I love freecycle and hope that I can clean this so I can use it!!
Thanks! :)

There's a special silicone cleaner (http://www.dutchguard.com/p-SIE781.html) that might work.

Other stuff made out of silicone can be cleaned by boiling or by bleaching in a 10% bleach solution, so bakeware should be fine with either method.

Silicone is advertised to not absorb odors (I've even seen some silicone ashtrays that specifically say they won't absorb smoke odors), so that's kind of scary. I'm not sure I'd use those pans even if they smelled clean.
