Since my fiancée has started doing Atkins, I've been on the hunt for Atkins friendly snack-type items, and boy did I find one today!!!!!

Russel Stover makes a low-carb (this is NOT sugar free, but rather targeted specifically for low-carb dieters) candy line. Today we tried the pecan delight cups, the toffee bars, and the peppermint patties. The Toffee Bars were PHENOMENAL. They tasted no different than a heath bar. Throw some in a food processor and throw it over some Atkins ice-cream, and you've got a great low carb, homemade blizzard. I don't remember the exact carb count, but each piece had less than 1 gram of carbs...I think the toffee had .2, the peppermint had maybe .4, and I think the pecan delights had .8

AND, for you Weight Watchers, they're 2 points for either a package of peppermint patties or for a package of the toffee. The pecan delights are 1 point each.

The tricky part is finding them. I've ONLY seen them at Walgreen's, and only in the racks of candy at the checkout. And they don't usually have a lot of them. I had bought them for my fiancée, and went to get some for myself, but they were all out! :)

Funny you should mention this because I just saw an ad for these in a magazine I was reading!! I used to love the regular Russel Stover Pecan Delights, so I am anxiously awaiting to try these as well! I do love the Sugar Free ones, but they don't agree with me!

I do hope I can eat these Low carb ones!! :)

Thanks for the tip, Dan! I just want to say what a sweetheart you are to be so supportive of your fiancee!!! Have you found that being a part of WISH has given you a head-start on the Atkins education? You are very thoughtful and kind to continue on your path with WW and help her with her journey on the Atkins program!

I hope you will update us about her progress!!! I'm really nosy!!!

(And thanks for the howcha magowcha or whatever that comment was, you totally made my day and my face glowed red for several hours!)

wow thanks for the tip. sending my beau out later to find me some. tee hee. just had my wisdom teeth out last week and had some problems (something call dry socket in both the bottom ones) and now I feel better and some russell stover's would really taste and feel good right about now! Thanks again!

Have A Disney Day!!!!!!:smooth:

Dan,

Thanks for posting this great idea! As you know, I have a hard time turning down the sweets as well. This idea gives me a new evening treat if I can find the candy bars. I love the idea of chopping them up and making my own blizzard!

Jen

Yummmmm!!! What a great find, Dan!!! There is a Russell Stover outlet fairly near me, I wonder if I could find them there? On second thought, I may send DH to check that out. That may be one store that holds just TOO much temptation!

Found the Mint Patties and the Pecan Delights today at our neighborhood Walgreens. The mint patties are wonderful.......good dark chocolate flavor and just a hint of mint in the filling. I had 1/2 of one patty and was quite satisfied. Will wait to try the Pecan Delights another day.

Oh BTW, they were $1.00 per pack of 2 pieces. Not too bad at all.

I have not had a real craving for any sweets since I started on Atkins 6 weeks ago but I am going to look into these to keep in my TOM drawer. I had to toss out my Reeses Fast Break bars when I started Atkins, just in case. those are delicious!!!
Can we on Atkins eat those candies? I thought we were supposed to avoid all carbs and sugar.
If anyone knows let me know because I would hate to mess up sicne I haven't been losing that well to begin with. Peggie

You are so right, Dan! I tried the toffee one the other day and it was wonderful!!! I got mine at Eckerds. That's a great idea about the blizzard :) :) :)

Mickey527, yes they are ok on Atkins once you are past induction. They are sweetened with an artificial sweetener. I don't remember which one. I may be mistaken, but I think the toffee one only had .2 impactable carbs.

How is it lowcarb if it's not sugar free? If anyone has these- can you tell me what the ingredients are on it AND what is say on how many grams of sugar?

It's allowed on Atkins because it's sweetened with malitol, a sugar alcohol.

Good news. I thought I threw the wrapper away, but I only ate one piece so it's still in my drawer. I guess it's my lucky night! ;)

Whew. :)

The little stinker! ;)

I was excited to find that I only ate one piece of my toffee. When I opened it I noticed there was a bit missing. Oh well, that's strange.

I called dd, Chelsea, in here to verify that we bought it at Eckerds. Somehow it came out in the conversation that she thought it was really good. Hmmmm, somethings fishy here. Yes, she stole a bite.

The best part was that she thought it tasted even better than her Heath bar. Cool, huh? :)

Sorry Bibbidy! I didn't mean to cause confusion with the sugar-free remark. I just know that Russel Stover (as well as Hershey) makes a line of sugar-free products. I just wanted to distinguish that this was something different from that. :)

i was getting all excited about this until i read the word "malitol"

pooey!

(oops, bad choice of word)

My DH was telling friends this weekend how I had bought this awesome "diet" ice cream and how we both indulged in it, yadda yadda yadda.............later that night we laid flat on our backs and said "Why oh why??" He said the product malitol was misnnamed and should really be 'processitall'

I think you're with me Beanie, right!

I'm glad you guys can enjoy such a treat! Have a toffee bar for me please!

LOL OhMom! You are correct!! I actually bought one today before reading this thread and I was bummed to see it had Malitol in it:( I tried just one piece of it today and it was really good, but unfortunately I know what it does!! :p

:)
