2 Month Old Shoes Fell Completely Apart-What To Do?

In August I purchased a pair of $49.00 Skechers Z Strap shoes for my 6 year old. Last week I was looking at the shoes and noticed that part of the sole was coming apart from the rest of the shoe. I continued to let him wear them to school since it hadn't fallen completely off, it was just separating and he really had no other shoes that were ok to wear to school. When he came home he said his shoe was broken, I looked at it and the Z stap completely tore in half. I am furious! Never have we had shoes fall apart like this. He's not particularly hard on his shoes, he's a boy and plays like a boy.

Today I went to the store where I purchased them and they said they cannot help me because it's been more than 30 days. Is there anything I can do about this with either the store or the manufacturer? I don't think I'll be buying another pair of Skechers again. It's a shame because he loved the Z strap so he could just slip them on and go. Any suggestions appreciated! I just had to spend another $40.00 on shoes that I was not anticipating spending. Makes me soooo mad! :headache:

Many manufacturers stand behind their product. I'm not sure what the life of a kid's shoe is expected to be though.

Welcome to buying shoes for boys. They tear them up in 2 months. :confused3

I would try the manufacturer. DS had a pair of Skechers fall apart on us too. The metallic trim tore off & generally did not hold up well. I think we were right at the 30 day mark so the store took them back but she said they had several returns for it. It could be the manufacturer knows & will replace them.

Sorry, I have a DS8 and I still expect his shoes to last longer than 2 months. Even at age 6, they lasted at least 5 months before he outgrew them.

Apparently I must be blind because I looked for about 20 minutes on Skechers website for a customer service phone number and couldn't find it so thanks to the person who posted the customer service phone number. :thumbsup2

I contacted them and they are emailing me information on where to send them for quality control to look at them and hopefully send me a new pair of shoes. Yay! :woohoo:

I agree that boys are rough on shoes but he has never ever worn out a pair of shoes in a year! Wish me luck with the manufacturer!

I hope they do send you a new pair. My DS is 8 and has been wearing z-strap sketchers since he was 5. He is VERY hard on his shoes and clothes and still he has never worn out a pair of sketchers in 2 months. That is not right. We have found sketchers to hold up fairly well (I usually buy him dark colored sneaks since you don't see the dirt as much on them). I agree that they should not be falling apart in 2 months.

Good luck! Please post back when you hear from them!

My DD both when she was 8 and 9 got Sketchers for her new school sneaker and both pair were falling apart before Christmas. This year she was looking at sneaker for school and I told her NO SKETCHER. She said why because they don't make them well and they fall apart in a few months! Exactally I do not want to buy buy...buy just because they look cool. We have since purchase New Balance (great for your feet) and they hold up soo much better (We have bought them for years for both my DS13 and my DH).:thumbsup2

No way they should be falling apart in two months! I have two boys (5 and 8), and they've outgrown all but one pair of Nike sneakers before they've fallen apart. Thanks for the input on the Sketchers!

This why I don't buy sketchers! I bought dd a pair and they fell apart. I never bought them again! Only bought Nike until they were teens and now it's dc only.

Nope, that's what happens when shoes are junky. Skeechers are not good quality at all - I refuse to buy them as they are grossly overpriced for the low quality that they are.

My very active and energetic baby boy of 3 has never torn a pair of shoes apart, and he mostly wears New Balance and Teva. Well made shoes will not fall apart after 2 months at all. New Balance are very well made (many of them are still made in the U.S.), and hold up to very active kids.

OP - I would write to Skeechers right away and explain the situation, and hope that they will send you another pair.

Best of luck, Tiger

I have had great luck with Sketchers, DS8 is on the same pair for over a year now. Have bought Sketchers every year since kindergarten .

Glad I am not the only one have issues with Sketchers. DS5 had his first pair that held up great..took all his running jumping and climbing no problems..this latest pair of z straps the stitching is coming undone. He has only worn them since school started (a little over two months). Grrr at almost 50.00 they should hold up a little better.

Call them. I hope they stand by their brand and send you all a new pair. I have not had a pair of my kids shoes fall apart in 2 months and that includes flip flops from Old Navy and shoes from Target.

I have three boys and always had luck with Sketchers when they were younger. I always bought the black suede tennis shoes. They lasted more than six months with the two that were hardest on shoes and longer on the other that was easier on shoes. Most of the time the soles were worn down before the outside showed wear. I know it's hit or miss with anything you buy. Last year I spent more money on tennis shoes than I normally do (on the one who is easiest on shoes), they were a pair of Nikes. The top wore down in such a way that his ankle was being scraped by a piece of plastic inside the shoe. This was after owning the shoes for less than two months. Luckily I still had the receipt and box, took them back to Dick's and they gave us our money toward a new pair and % off. Hubby also had issues with his last pair of Rockports, they split down the center, he had owned them for about six months. He took them back to the store, they looked at them and saw they weren't worn down (wore them usually two times a week). They replaced them without the box or the receipt.

I think it might depend on the store you bought them from. We had luck with Dick's and the Rockport store.

Personally, I used to love sketchers, but now I refuse to buy them. For the past few years the quality has seemed to go downhill , as you said, they have been falling apart right about the 2 month mark....very disappointing!
I have had really good luck with the Tony Hawk sneakers from Kohls (go figure!!)

You need to buy your shoes at L L Bean. All of their products are 100% guaranteed to meet your expectations or they will replace them or give you a refund. Doesnt matter how long you have had them if you feel they havent lived up to your expectations you can return them. They stand behind there products. I have also heard a tv comercial saying that kohls has a policy similar to L L Beans. Not sure if i believe it though.;)

Huh . . . I had that happen at Target and they took the shoes back even though they were about 2 months old. I would quit shopping at the store that sold you faulty merchandise.

I had a pair of Z-straps for my DS too and they broke really fast also. I coulnd't believe it. I never made it back to the store where I bought them and he ended up wearing them for camping and off-roading so he didn't get his new shoes nasty.

The store is not sketchers (unless it was a sketchers outlet or something). Many times a store will have a return policy. Once that policy is over, any issues have to be taken up with the manufacturer. Why should a store take a hit because the manufacturer doesn't make quality items anymore? At this point the issue is between the purchaser and the manufacturer.

I would never stop shopping somewhere because a random manufacturer isn't up to par anymore. I would no longer shop that brand, but the store isn't at fault. I would never blame a store for holding up their return policy (especially having worked in retail for 13 years including management and seeing what people try and get away with).

We used to buy Sketchers exclusively until we had this happen as well. I bought my daughter shoes for back to school in late July/early August, she didn't wear them until school started in September, and within a few weeks they were falling apart. The store tried telling me it had been more than 30 days and they wouldn't take them back, and I pointed out taht they were back to school shoes and she hadn't worn them until recently.

(This was at an actual Sketchers store at the mall)

They let me exchange them, but the 2nd pair didn't last very long either, and I quit buying Sketchers. That was about 3-4 years ago.

My DD15 wants all Converse-all the time now, so that's what we've been buying.
