Reflections still on the drawing board..

That's the part that disappoints me, Stormy. The cabins match the design look of the resort. Probably interiors won't be vastly different so staying in one will feel like staying in the other to a degree. Maybe at least they can name the resort's lazy river (if there will be one) "River...

    The Gulf State Park Tradition...

Here is a very timely primer as we edge closer to the booking window for next summer. It's Matt Mitchell's "12 Sacred Rules of Southern Beaches" (3m24s long). Actually the window is not far away. Ed

Reflections still on the drawing board..

An attempt at humor, @Lumpy1106. :rotfl: I sometimes refer to it as the "resort-won't-say-its-name" planned behind Pioneer Hall. And when I do so, I even count the right # of asterisks to put after the letter "R". But I type it out that way and I'm not alone some times. But it SHOULD be...

Reflections still on the drawing board..

Well, he's wrong (again) in one regard: There was an open gate behind Trails End on my January visit and I took pics to see what was there. Looks like the beginnings of foundation work to me. These have been visible through the fence for years. But yeah, it's coming. Bama Ed

New golf cart rules, you need insurance if not using disney carts!

Spencer, really? 🎃 Three or four loops should be enough candy for any human being (and their parents :teeth:) . And 3/4 loops can easily be walked and call it a successful night then. ED

Tell me the "weather" where you live.

Denise, sorry to hear about your damage but glad it was limited to that. That same weather system moved southeast and missed us in Tuscaloosa but the northern half of Georgia is dealing with it now. ED PS - maybe your neighbor's trampoline hasn't come down out of the sky yet. It may crash...

    The DisFort's Chit Chat Cafe

My garden update is that everything is growing well but I have a case of tomato blossom rot and had to snip off 9 golf-ball sized green ones and am switching to a fertilizer that adds calcium (supposedly that is the solution). Bell pepper plants have set fruit (the red pepper is leading the...

Reflections still on the drawing board..

A number of us have been saying it (R*-or whatever it will be) never left, @happycamper47. Helen Keller saw this coming. :smooth: - With all the money they spent to clear the (revered) old River Country property... - Scrape and shape (rhymes, no?) the land, they did ... - Tear up...

The DIS Campers Train Thread: From Model Trains Up To The Real Thing

I have mentioned in the past that I will buy (sometimes) a piece of rolling stock (or more) of a tourist train that I have ridden. I rejoiced when I found a LGB wooden box car from the year 2016 in a store online (went out of production in 2020) for the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad that...

New golf cart rules, you need insurance if not using disney carts!

Henry Ford, the founder of the Ford Motor Company, is famously quoted as saying: “Any customer can have a car (the Model T) painted any color that he wants so long as it is black.” The parades would lose some luster if the underlying cart done up with decorations were all green standard Disney...

Any word or any prep work being done for new DVC cabins?

Jim, I had an accessible cabin in 2500 loop in January 2024 (2524). It had a ramp up to the back end of the deck as well as steps up to the deck from the parking spot in front. We were moving from a campsite that morning to a cabin and I went to the lobby and asked for a cabin that was...

New golf cart rules, you need insurance if not using disney carts!

EVER is a mighty long time. They've put out some reasonable rules, from THEIR point of view, to protect them (and by extension their guests) to have proper insurance coverage (or sign off as having it) because, God Forbid, stuff has happened at the Fort over the years with bikes, carts, etc...

Tolls, should we get a toll pass?

Well, @tguz, looking at your trip listings in your signature, I assume the 2024 trip is the September trip you spoke of and the next most recent was 2021. I don't remember when the Turnpike started (nor finished) removing the toll booths and going transponder or pay-by-plate but it's only been...

Ft. Wilderness Campground- bugs in June

I can't answer your specific question since I've never stayed at the Fort in June (well, a few days from a Memorial Day/May stay) but I do know and have seen the bug truck driving the loops spraying insecticide of some type during past stays. My memories of that late May trip are that I don't...

Any word or any prep work being done for new DVC cabins?

Yeah, gotta build up some inventory first. A percentage of, say, 35 cabins (initially), is not many to use on the cash side. However, a percentage of 300 IS. Good point. BTW, our first cabin stay was in 2200 (way back when) so for that nostalgic reason it remained my favorite cabin loop.

Any word or any prep work being done for new DVC cabins?

Cash stays (by anybody) can be different from DVC points stays. Not that I know what I'm talking about but until DVC actually puts the finished rooms into the DVC points side, they can keep the cash/per/night rooms going. DVC keeps a small percentage of rooms for cash use (by anyone like a...

New golf cart rules, you need insurance if not using disney carts!

For vendors like Meacham, maybe it's not about risk assessment - although requiring insurance on non-Disney golf carts surely is. At first I thought it was about reducing risk (simple example is things that might go 'bang' like a propane tank or trailer tire). For vendors it's more about their...

New golf cart rules, you need insurance if not using disney carts!

I wonder how this went from just golf carts to fire pits and grill rentals .... :confused3 Are the vendors trying to lower their liability risk in the extreme? .... what if they didn't check the tire pressure in all the rented trailer tires EVERY day (even on the rentals they have at the...
