She's On Top of the World, a September 2018 TR at Copper Creek Villas and Cabins (Completed 12/20)

We did follow up once we got home and as usual Disney took great care of us and we got a gift card for next year's trip.

Glad they tried to make up for it.

Restaurant-wise the major differences are the fact the chefs at Teppan Edo seem to be more authentic Japanese, and the jokes / entertainment are Disney based. We've seen the reviews that say you could skip Teppan Edo and just do Benihana at home, but we definitely disagree.

This is going on my list. I think we would enjoy the more authentic experience.

That's so crazy their tickets were wiped out, I'm glad it was made right!

We have a reservation for Teppan Edo in January and I'm really looking forward to it now!
In the end it all worked out. We’d definitely say it is worth visiting, but beware that it might become a must do like it has for us.

Glad they tried to make up for it.

This is going on my list. I think we would enjoy the more authentic experience.
Eventually it all worked out.
We do enjoy it, and are still amazed at the food quality, especially with the filet.

Love how you made waffles for breakfast! What a nice, relaxing morning in the cabin.
It was perfect, and worth bringing the little waffle makers.

Real Life Update:
Melissa had her surgery on Thursday night. It went well, and they got everything screwed back together.

Now it hurts quite a bit, and pain meds aren’t fun, but at least it should start getting better from here on out.

The quiet morning on the porch looks really relaxing. I sat on our balcony every morning but your porch is a whole lot better with a nicer view. :)

I also stopped by the personalized luggage tag machine in the lobby to make a custom tag for my backpack.
We never checked these out. Are they near the Mercantile?

It was a great together activity and I’m pretty sure everyone liked the waffles
I'm impressed that you brought waffle makers on our trip. I can see that it would be really nice to enjoy them for breakfast, though. :)

It was a great way to be a little lazy on vacation.
It is surprisingly nice to just hang around and relax. The kids probably enjoyed sleeping in a little, too.

It was the strangest thing, their media was totally gone. I stood with them through guest services. We got a great CM and he looked and looked but it didn't even show that they had been in the parks all week. When the front desk rebuilt the reservation they lost all the tickets. He could still see their fast pass plus selections though so obviously we couldn't make those without tickets.

Long story short he ended up just giving them complementary tickets for the day since it was our last day and sending us on our way. He also gave Jon and Brandy a 35 dollar gift card for all the trouble. It really pays to be nice when stuff gets challenging.
That is the strangest thing t hat the tickets were gone but the fastpasses remained. I remember that the MDE website was having some major problems around that time but that doesn't explain how the tickets disappeared. We had that happen to our son and grandsons on one trip and ever since then I bring a hard ticket, too.

This was our third excellent meal here in a row. The "show" is fun, but the food is really great. It is a great experience.
We've never eaten here but it would be fun when you can fill a whole table.

Friday morning was the morning that we went to DHS for the early passholder Toy Story event. We just did the three rides there and then took the boat to Epcot. We stayed at Epcot long enough to enjoy some food booths and then caught the bus back to WL. We were probably out of there before you got to Tappan Edo. We spent the rest of the afternoon at the pool.

Now it hurts quite a bit, and pain meds aren’t fun, but at least it should start getting better from here on out.
I hope it doesn't hurt for too long. Does this change your plans for Thanksgiving?

Someday, my family and I will sit around in those beautiful cabins and just hang out.
We thought the same thing. They are a perfect place for a group to hang out in quiet seclusion at Disney World.

Speedy recovery wishes coming here way
Thanks! Now that the surgery is done she can focus on getting better without the looming setback of having it start over again after the surgery.

The quiet morning on the porch looks really relaxing. I sat on our balcony every morning but your porch is a whole lot better with a nicer view. :)
It is a neat view, but we were most amazed at the amount of space inside. It is way more like a house than a hotel room.

We never checked these out. Are they near the Mercantile?
They are near the Mercantile, just outside the side door to the hallway that leads to the buses. They are across the hallway there from the massage chairs and the hallway that leads to the second floor rooms.

I'm impressed that you brought waffle makers on our trip. I can see that it would be really nice to enjoy them for breakfast, though. :)
We really like our Mickey Waffles in the morning, and if we can't get the ones we used to at Roaring Fork we were willing to make our own. We still didn't bring the stuff to do strawberry toppings on them, but it was nice to be able to cook in the cabin.

It is surprisingly nice to just hang around and relax. The kids probably enjoyed sleeping in a little, too.
Yes, we wanted to hang out and enjoy the cabin for a bit and not be in a hurry to go anywhere. It's still Disney though, and there's always somewhere neat we eventually want to get out and go to.

That is the strangest thing that the tickets were gone but the fastpasses remained. I remember that the MDE website was having some major problems around that time but that doesn't explain how the tickets disappeared. We had that happen to our son and grandsons on one trip and ever since then I bring a hard ticket, too.
Yeah, they were having some major system issues, and having the front desk request their access permissions be rebuilt occurred at exactly the wrong time. Nobody we talked to had seen it before.

We've never eaten here but it would be fun when you can fill a whole table.
Yes, having a full table to yourself makes it better, but we have shared with others before too and had fun.

Yeah, we got a really late start, but that was part of the plan. It is cool that you got to see Toy Story Land as part of the event, then escape the crowds.

I hope it doesn't hurt for too long. Does this change your plans for Thanksgiving?
It does. We had planned on going out to the sand dunes for Veterans Day and Thanksgiving to be with our friends and family, but now it looks like Thanksgiving will be at home in the recliner. We are optimistic that we'll be able to go out to the dunes again between Christmas and New Years.
We also missed out on the DVC Moonlight Madness event at CA Adventure, but oh well it will be nice to have everything healed by our next WDW trip.

You've inspired me to add Teppan Edo to my plans for May!
Great! I can't recommend the filet highly enough. I always used to get the steak and chicken or steak and shrimp, but the filet is soooo much better.

After we were all stuffed at Teppan Edo we went downstairs for some shopping. We love the big store in Japan and always find something interesting.

We found Marshall a transformer and Allie found a little doll.

Allie had been eyeing this dress in France since last year and Grandma and Grandpa wanted to get it for her for her birthday so we headed to France. Jon and Brandy went towards Mexico in search of empanadas.

It was neat that they got to surprise her with getting her the dress, and this way they got to see her get it. She wanted to wear it right away, so she went in to the restroom and changed.

The dress has become a real favorite, and she loves wearing it around the house or playing in the yeard on the weekends. She loves it because it is French.

After Allie posed for a couple pictures in her new dress we decided to try something we’ve never done before. I thought it would be fun to do the Perry the Platypus Secret Agent thing. It’s super easy now that you can just do it on your phone.

We had read about this for years, but never took the time to check out a transponder. Now we had the time and the ability to do it on our phones, so we gave it a shot.

Allie had a ball in the France Pavilion completing the different quests.

I was impressed with how many different things you could make happen with the phone, like making characters pop up or move across a scene. It is stuff that would be overlooked by most guests, but is super cool for the kids making it happen.

After we finished the quests in France we stopped for Kaki Gori in Japan to cool off. We made some friends with some ducks while we enjoyed our snack.

The multiple flavors of shave ice are great, and we hadn't don it yet this trip. It is a nice treat on a hot day. From there we continued on to Germany, where we stayed cool by shopping in the air conditioned stores.

Allie decided on our last day that she was interested in the kidcot stations and wanted to visit them all. She started in Germany while we were there.

We wished we had done these earlier in the trip, because she would have had a chance to visit all of the countries, but instead she was happy to get the ones that we had time for.

We checked out China and then Mexico. In the Mexico pavilion she was able to set off fireworks as part of an Agent P mission.

Mexico was a fun pavilion to do the mission in.

It was crowded but nice and cool, and with a Kidcot stop and the missions she had fun. Grandpa, Allie, and I rode the boat ride and Melissa shopped with Marshall asleep in the stroller and found a mug for our friend who was watching the dogs. After that we were headed to Mouse Gear for some more shopping, but stopped at the new Food and Wine playground on the way so she could check it out. Allie had fun.

It’s amazing that some of the most fun the kids have is just playing in the playgrounds.

Then we went to one of our favorite stores, Mouse Gear. We knew this would probably be our last visit here for the trip, so we made sure to get the things we decided on. Grandpa got Allie a Stitch notebook, and we got her a rainbow spirit jersey, and a black one for Melissa.

The spirit jersey was a bit of a splurge but I really love it. It’s super comfy and is a great weight for our mild weather.

I had never seen or heard of one before this trip, but apparently they are the thing right now, and now I've seen lots of different ones. We also picked up a Food and Wine polo for me, adding to my large collection of Disney polos.

I made him promise to get rid of two others before I would get him a new one.

After Mouse Gear Grandpa headed off for one last dinner at Wolfgang Puck Express at Disney Springs and we headed back to the cabin. On our way out of Epcot we got a family pic.

We got to the bus stop at 7:18, and a bus came at 7:25 and left at 7:30 after loading ECVs.

We made it to WL by 7:40, which again was a nice quick trip. On the way to the room Allie posed for a picture with her dress and umbrella.

We got to the cabin and Jon and Brandy weren't back yet, and we were starting to think about dinner so I decided to grab a burger to share from Geyser Point.

I can’t remember why we didn’t feed the kids at this point. Marsh was probably napping. When Jon and Brandy got back to the cabin they were hungry and we didn’t really have a plan for dinner.

Brandy said pizza sounded good, and we all agreed. Having seen the ads in the elevator for years for room service pizza but never having tried it, we figured now was the time. We ordered two pizzas, and Jon and I went to Geyser Point for mug refills. On the way back we saw a small snake on the walkway.

They brought the pizzas out to the cabin in about 20 minutes which was way quicker than the 45 minutes they estimated.

It was so fun sitting around that big table having pizza together. It was great pizza too. It was a real highlight of the trip for me.

It was the perfect dinner for our last night at the cabin, and is something we will definitely consider repeating in the future. We then watched the Electrical Water Parade from the porch.

Once it finished, it was getting to be close to time for the Halloween Party fireworks. We had planned on going back up to the Top of the World lounge to see them, but Brandy, Melissa, and the kids wanted to just stay at the cabin. Jon and I decided to head over there, and my Dad joined us as we got to the boats.

We had a quick trip over there, and were in the 290s out of 500 allowable people in the lounge despite arriving just minutes before the show. It was a little busier than the night before, but far from crowded.

Both I and the kids were tired and we had lots of packing to get done. Not exciting but something that had to get done. We put Pirates of the Caribbean on and the kids hung out on the couch.

When it was time for fireworks we went out on the porch and low and behold we had an amazing view right from the cabin porch and they even pipe in the music!

Our view of the show from the Top of the World was great, and Grandpa Jim was impressed.

After the fireworks we went down to the Contemporary gift shop and looked around, and Grandpa got me a toy monorail for my desk at work. We went down to the boats at 11:10, and they both came at 11:15. Since everybody was going to WL we all got on one boat and he made one quick trip with us before the last boat trip of the night. We were at WL by 11:20, and we said good night to Grandpa and headed for the cabin.

Outside we saw a Frog on the post on the porch.

I did a little packing, but Melissa had already done a bunch and was ready for bed.

Because we’d only been in the cabin a couple days stuff wasn’t really crazy spread out but we don’t travel light either.

We crawled into bed just after midnight having made the most out of our last full day.

You didn’t miss too much for the DCA Moonlight Magic event. The lines were very, VERY long all night.

Also, my son loves all things Japan and steak so after reading your reviews of Teppan Edo, we’re adding it to our plans for next July! Woohoo!!

I love the fireworks view from your cabin. It looks like it might be a better view than the one from Geyser Point. I’m glad some of you got to see it.

When we saw you Thursday afternoon you both seemed to prefer staying in the dedicated two bedroom villa. But after breakfast waffles the next morning, pizza delivered to the cabin for dinner and a great view of the electric water pageant and fireworks, did you fall in love a little more with the cabin?

I love Allie’s dress. She looks adorable in it. I remember all the cute clothes Melissa made for her and this reminds me of those days. :)

We have played the Sorcerers game in Magic Kingdom but have never tried the Epcot game. Using your smartphone would make it so much easier to play. Is it hard to learn?

The store in Japan is always fun to go through. We also like the museum that they have there. And kaki gori is a family favorite. :)

Have a happy Thanksgiving. We have 14 people coming over tomorrow so I won’t be back until Friday. :)

Cute dress o Allie. My eye was drawn to the picture before reading the comments - very sweet of them to buy it and awesome that she wanted to wear it right away.
She actually picked out that dress during our trip a year ago. We thought Melissa would be able to sew one for her and save some money, but when it didn't get don in a year we figured it might be worth buying it, and Grandma and Grandpa were looking for something special for her birthday so it worked out perfectly.

:rotfl2: Did he follow through?
Yes, I got rid of two or three old polos, but they weren't Disney ones, so I increased the ratio of Disney ones which is cool.

What a great last night in the cabins!
It was fun, and I'm glad that we got to hang out and enjoy it for a while.

You didn’t miss too much for the DCA Moonlight Magic event. The lines were very, VERY long all night.
We saw pictures and video that showed it looked to be pretty crazy. We still would have liked to be there, but we're glad we didn't try it.

Also, my son loves all things Japan and steak so after reading your reviews of Teppan Edo, we’re adding it to our plans for next July! Woohoo!!
That's great, he should enjoy it. I do recommend the filet over the regular steak that comes in the combinations, and the price is comparable you just only get steak instead of steak and chicken or shrimp. In my experience though it is so worth it. Mmm, I want that for dinner.

I love the fireworks view from your cabin. It looks like it might be a better view than the one from Geyser Point. I’m glad some of you got to see it.
We were surprised at how good the view is. Since the cabins wrap around the shoreline, the view is less obstructed than from Geyser Point. This was a definite perk of this cabin being a little further from Geyser Point.

Those were awesome things about the cabin, and the view really is exceptional, but overall we still preferred the two bedroom. Having more bedroom space and being right in the main building are really nice. The hot tub was another nice thing only in the cabin, but it was a bit of a pain to use because it still involves changing into swim clothes and taking a shower after, so it really only saved the walk down to the pool. Having it right there meant the kids were always asking to get in it though.
Don't get us wrong, we loved the cabin and would stay there again, but it is hard to overcome the fact that it is over double the point cost per night of the two bedroom and does have some drawbacks.

I love Allie’s dress. She looks adorable in it. I remember all the cute clothes Melissa made for her and this reminds me of those days. :)
That is one of the reasons we didn't buy the dress last year, since we thought Melissa might be able to sew her one, but she didn't have time and it worked out to just get the Disney one. It does have that cute homemade look that Allie is so cute in.

We have played the Sorcerers game in Magic Kingdom but have never tried the Epcot game. Using your smartphone would make it so much easier to play. Is it hard to learn?
The Perry game at Epcot was super easy, and Allie says it was really fun. We haven't done the one at Magic Kingdom but may give it a try next time. I like how it is super easy to do as much or as little as you want with the Epcot game. You can do any of the pavilions individually, in any order, so that was nice.

The store in Japan is always fun to go through. We also like the museum that they have there. And Kali Gorilla is a family favorite. :)
Yes, the Japan store is probably our favorite in Epcot. Kaki Gori is yummy, but is tough to convince auto-correct to agree with.

Have a happy Thanksgiving. We have 16 people coming over tomorrow so I won’t be back until Friday. :)
Have a great Thanksgiving! We will miss having a big group dinner with our friends and family out in the desert, but Allie and I are going to make ham and mashed potatoes, so that should be fun. We will cook for Melissa for a change.

So cute! And that dress fits her so well!

It really is perfect, and she loves it. We would have wound up with a smaller one a year ago.
I want to give this a try so hopefully I will in a week!
That’s so cool!
It is fun and easy, the hardest part is remembering to do it when you’re there. It is worth it though.
That is a beautiful dress! I love that she wanted it enough to wait a whole trip.
Yeah, we couldn’t really question how much she wanted it. Now the only issue is getting her not to wear it all the time.
Hi @GrandCalifornian, I can't seem to figure out how to DM you here (do you know how!?). Would appreciate some advice and feedback re video-taking..
I think you have to have a certain number of posts. Just keep posting and the ability to start private conversations will show up. Feel free to post here though and I’ll answer what I can.
