Hey y’all,

We’ll be staying at the Hollywood Hotel on property whilevat the resort. Does anyone have pointers as far as which FPs to get first, which places to eat are best, and what plan of attack to follow for a Monday in December ?

On a side note, is it better in general to take public transit from HK airport to the Resort, or grab a cab? If the latter is a better option, do they take US CCs?

Thanks!

Only 3 attractions actually have FP. The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh which is the same as the US versions, Hyperspace Mountain and Iron Man Experience which is Star Tours modified to be a Marvel ride. Out of the 3, the Iron Man Experience is probably the one you want to go for

Taxis for the most part are cash only. It's more convenient if you have a lot of luggage but the Disneyland Resort Line is worth a ride.

Winnie the Pooh is usually the first Fastpass to run out and is similar to the Orlando version, not the Anaheim version. Unlike Shanghai, this ride is entirely in English. I usually recommend rope dropping Fantasyland and grabbing FP for Hyperspace Mountain and Iron Man later in the day. Food wise, I currently recommend Explorer's Club because it's not as busy as the other quick service places and the Christmas Creme Brulee is good. The spaghetti with meatballs at Royal Banquet Hall is not bad if you want something Western. For table service, Corner Cafe is pretty good but some options are a bit bland for my taste.

Crowds for the Christmastime Ball can vary but I recommend getting there 30-45 minutes early for the best views. People usually rush towards the tree around 5:40 when the last Christmastime Ball ends for the Twilight Snowfall/Tree Lighting Ceremony so plan accordingly if you want a good view of the performers. You can also mail Christmas postcards for free near city hall (bring a pen to write the postcards as you wait around for shows/rides). Try to finish your shopping before Paint the Night because there will be a nice surprise if you hang out in front of Main St. train station once the parade ends. :smickey:

I live in Hong Kong and have an annual pass, so here are my thoughts.

Coming from the airport to Disney, your best option is to take a blue Lantau taxi. Taxis are cash only, and I’m guessing it’ll be about $150 HKD. You can take the airport express train to Tsing Yi, transfer to the Tung Chung line one stop to Sunny Bay, and then transfer to the Disneyland resort line, but it will take much longer, and you probably won’t save any money, especially if there is more than one person with you. That being said, if you go anywhere else in Hong Kong, public transit is the way to go. You can buy an octopus card at any MTR station. It’s an add value card used to pay for the mtr, busses, ferries, and you can also use it at almost every store and restaurant in Hong Kong, including at HK Disneyland. If you plan on exploring the city, I recommend downloading the CityMapper app. It will tell you the best route from your location to your destination, using trains, busses, ferries, trams, or a combination of the above.

As far as fast passes, the only one I ever get is for Winnie the Pooh. Especially if you are going to the park on a Monday, the waits for space mountain and iron man probably won’t be longer than 10 minutes. Sometimes Winnie the Pooh can be 30-45 minutes. I’d start with a winnie the Pooh fastpass, and then move on to get an iron man one if you aren’t happy with the wait times listed. The wait times are usually accurate, in my opinion, although sometimes the wait times listed at the ride and on the app can be 5 minutes different.

I find the food to be lacking, but I find Explorer’s Club or Royal Banquet Hall to have decent options. Those are the only two restaurants I will eat at in the park. The walk up window in Grizzly Gulch is also decent and a good deal in my opinion-they sell fish and chips, chicken nuggets, and salads, and nothing on the menu is more than $50 HKD.

The park is very small, and it is easy to get from one place to another. I’d recommend getting a fast pass at Pooh, and then heading to Toy story land to do those rides if you are interested in those (I don’t ride them due to motion sickness). The Toy Story rides tend to have some of the longest waits, so ride them early if you can. After that, I would just base what you ride on showtimes. I love the lion king show, and I won’t go to the park without seeing it. The Mickey and the Wonderous Book is ok, but I don’t like it as much as the Lion King. The Mickey show is mostly in Cantonese, with subtitles. Try to sit on the right hand side of the theater so you can read the English subtitles easier.

HKD is VERY small---you really don't need any fast passes, except maybe Winnie the Pooh. From my experience, the taxi's don't accept credit cards---I always paid with Hong Kong dollars.

I'd also recommend having the hotel's address written in Chinese -- although English is spoken, we ran into some issues communicating exactly where we wanted to go (pantomiming "Mickey Mouse" wasn't really helping).

There is an app that you can download called Taxi Cards. This app has all major landmarks, buildings, attractions, hotels, malls, etc on it. Once you select where you want to go, you can have it make a taxi card with the address of the location in Cantonese.

What's the best option for getting from the cruise terminal to Disneyland? We'll be going to HKDL after a cruise in April.

If it's the Ocean Cruise Terminal, you can take the MTR from Tsim Sha Tsui station towards Tsuen Wan, change to Tung Chung line in Lai King, then change to Disneyland Line in Sunny Bay

Possibly take a taxi, online estimate are just around USD35-40.
Of course this means missing out the Disney Themed MTR ride ( or just taxi stop at Sunny Bay for it).

Thanks, but it's the Kai Tak terminal. We'll figure it out.
Kai Tak isn’t near an MTR (subway) station. If you put it into Citymapper, it suggests taking a minibus to an mtr station. I would not recommend a mini bus, especially with any sort of luggage. A taxi would be the easiest option, but if you want to save some money, you could take a taxi to either Kowloon or Olympic MTR stations (on the Tung Chung line), then take the Tung Chung line and switch to the Disneyland resort line at Sunny Bay.

If you decide to do public transit the whole way, take the 86 mini bus from Kai Tak to the Kowloon Bay MTR station (the stop is Telford Gardens bus terminus). Take the green line towards Whampoa to Prince Edward, switch to the red line towards Tsuen Wan to Lai King. At Lai King, switch to the Tung Chung line towards Tung Chung, and finally transfer to the Disneyland resort line at Sunny Bay.
