I love credit cards so much!

So you recommend the Visa gift cards in the black package not vanilla. I want to try this - I live in stop and shop land but it makes me so nervous!!!

Depends on how u want to dump them. Vanilla have their own method to dump.
So does USB MCGC
So does Meta VGC.

Well I've had a very crazy work day and I've been offline for about 8 hours. I'm seeing freakout about Amex and MR. I'm almost afraid to read backwards. Off I go to catch up (gulp).

Decided to jump on the RMN bandwagon bought a $25 amazon gift card and some q-tips with my (on DHs) newly aquired freedom at Walgreens and I have $10 immediately pending! So easy - thanks everyone!! I might just have to set my DH up his own account!
Do you think my Walgreen's isn't pending b/c I just bought the DGC w/o an accompanying item?

Every day is more fun news day here! A few days ago I cashed out DH's 50,000 AmEx Gold bonus points for a $500 Home Depot GC. I feel good about that now. Then I designated an airline for the $100 credit, based on reports here that I could then go to the airline website and order a GC that would trigger the airline credit? Haven't been able to find a local Marriott that sells GC yet for that offer.

Got a funny letter from Chase today that they had been trying to reach DH but were unable, so they lowered the CL on his CSP to $16,000. Pretty ridiculous, considering that they actually lowered it to $1000 and I had to SM to shift $15000 over from his SW card. Then all the usual generic stuff about all the factors that affected his credit score - no recent installment loans, (duh, we're debt-free) too many requests for credit reviews, short length of time cards have been opened, too many accounts with balances (between the 2 of us we must have 15 cards but we pay them in full each month), blah blah blah, followed by their report that his credit score is 805! Wow that's terrible.

He's got a Venture offer for the 60,000 bonus points sitting here that expires Oct 5. I'm toying with the idea, but stlll need to finish CSR and CSP spending.

Ok I'm caught up on Amex I think. The PRG changes would be fantastic for me. I'm pumped. And I drive 100% electric car so I never buy gas, so dropping that category is great - especially if it means more points on restaurants. I'm not what you would call a big cook, lol.

I would urge people to panic dump their MR points.

Another thing I've been thinking about is just how many cards DH and I have between us (I think we're around 25 right now). We really only regularly put charges on 4/5 of those accounts.

I know most advise putting a small recurring charge on each account but that's such a darn pain to me. But with these shutdowns and crackdowns, maybe it's the best way to go...

I have been toying with the idea to stay at a Hilton top tier resort at some point in the future, and would think having the Aspire at the same time as my stay would be my best bet. I have a long term plan to get all the Hilton bonuses over the next 2-3 years and, when ready to redeem for a big stay, get the Aspire to use for on property benefits/status perks. @calypso726 would be better for this kind of question though!

That is pretty much what we did for the Maldives trip. I did recommend the Aspire to @Haley R as well.

My problem is our trip is in 8 months so I'm just worried we won't have enough time to get 414,000 points.

I'm not sure how many nights that would be but if you recall, the Aspire gives you a $250 resort credit, so that is one night, gives you a free weekend night, so there is another. That is potentially 2 nights that you don't need to accumulate the points to book.

I've been thinking about different ways to pay for our WDW trip with points other than URs at a Disney resort, and I'm wondering, if we stay at a Hilton using either Hilton points or UR points, will they still recognize the fact that we're diamond?

I don't know about the UR points as I've never used UR to book a Hilton. But we were recognized as Diamond and received all perks on our recent Hilton award stays.

Lol I know for a fact that someone from this board was at my work in the last couple months!

You know, when I go in to teach classes I always wonder if I will meet someone from the Disboards LOL That would be kind of cool.

Oh wow, that's so crazy! I think if I saw someone from the board I'd act like I met a celebrity and want a picture , lol. Like people do with @Albort !

One of the regulars on the ABD thread spotted me at Epcot during F&W last year. He called out, Calypso! and I recognized him from his trip report pictures and responded by calling out his username LOL We took a picture together and posted it on the ABD thread. Thanks to the trip reports I post over there, I've been spotted a few times by other DISers on cruises and at the parks. But my most unexpected and memorable one was while we were in Scotland! That was too cool!

I think that is definitely a risk here for you. And you said using URs is nonrefundable so its not like you can even do that and then see how it plays out and cancel....I'm not sure what to say on this one :scratchin
Haha it's quite the conundrum isn't it? I think we are staying in AirBnB the rest of our trip (one in Tokyo and one in Kyoto) so I don't know if we will even use our URs on those. We might want to just go ahead and use them on the Hilton resort, but maybe wait until it's closer?

I have no idea if it works or not, but you could reserve the room directly through Hilton on a cash ressie (refundable of course) and when you get the points you can call and see it they can convert it to a points reservation. Maybe research that route.
That's a good idea. I'll look more into this.

ETA: I just chatted with an agent online and he said this: Yes, you can definitely do that. But please make the reservation with easy cancellation policy where you can modify the reservation within the cancellation deadline.

Well, "DH" just applied and was approved for the Hilton Biz! We are slightly ahead on the 19K MSR we had since August, so I was comfortable pulling the trigger on an Amex Biz card that essentially has no impact on near-term plans and the current offer is solid. But nonetheless, so much for slowing down...why do I do this to myself :faint:

Congratulations!

That 125k Hilton Biz has only a $3k MSR, right? Should be easy peazy. I was looking over my wife’s Hilton Biz statement this week. Her 125k bonus already posted, but I noticed she was actually short of the $5k MSR by about $60 if I counted refunds, credits, and the annual fee. Her MSR deadline is this weekend, so I’m glad I caught it and have been putting a bunch of miscellaneous spend on her Hilton Biz all week.

Meanwhile, I have about $5k left on my Biz Plat, $3,5k left on my SPG Lux, and $3k on my wife’s newly approved CIU. I’m deep in MSRs with you.

I swear I’m going to cool off after the CIU, put more organic spend across our Amex cards and be good, profitable Amex customers, then hit Chase again early next year when I’m under 5/24 again. That’s the plan, at least. But then again, there’s the CIC calling my wife in 3 months, and the BGR and BBP in my sights.

Wow that’s great. I was told no. Hope you got his name. Lol

Celebrio King Ocean View. When I looked I could only find refundable ones for rooms that included breakfast.
Ok, so do you have enough URs for that room? Because if so, you could book with URs as your backup plan, knowing you could cancel. Then go for the Hilton cards as Calypso and SouthFayetteFan mentioned. If you don’t get the Hilton cards, keep the UR booking. If you do get enough Hilton points, cancel UR booking.

That's true about the benefits. We would be there a Sunday-Saturday so 6 nights. Would the Sunday or the Friday count as a weekend night? How do we use the $250 credit and free weekend night? Do I just call and say I want them put on our reservation?

Wow that’s great. I was told no. Hope you got his name. Lol
Nope, I didn't. Darn...

The problem with the UR booking is it's non-refundable. So I either book it and don't worry about Hilton or book with Hilton and start earning points.

I guess Dh and I are wondering what we would use our URs on if we don't use them for the Hilton. We aren't able to use them for AirBnB right? I'm pretty sure the rest of our trip will be spent in AirBnBs.

But the UR room with breakfast is refundable. I did a quick search for random dates in April 2019 and the refundable with breakfast is about 4K more points than non refundable. I’d book the refundable with breakfast if your dates have similar pricing. Essentially you’re paying 4K for refundable and getting free breakfast.

You can always do a statement credit for AirBNB cost
