I love credit cards so much!

Whew, just caught up on this thread! We got back from DC on Wednesday so it only took me 2 days this time. ;)

DW's IHG card came in the mail yesterday so we can start working on that spend now. Since it's only $1K (and 1/3 of it will be taken care of with a payment to DW's allergist next week), I went ahead and applied for the Marriott Biz today. I got the 30-day message, which I was expecting. Hopefully I'll get approved and won't have to call recon.

Oh, here's a question for all you frequent travelers... have you ever had a hotel charge take days to show up on your CC? When we checked out on Wed, I asked them to split the room charge onto two cards. I put $300 on DW's CSR and the balance on my CSR so we could use up both travel credits. Her CSR shows the $300 charge still pending, but there is nothing showing on my CSR. I have a receipt stating the amounts charged to each card but the charge to mine has so far not shown up at all. Mine was the card on file for the room so I'm wondering if that has something to do with it? At some point during the stay I noticed there had been a hold put on my card for the amount of the room charge + $75, but that was reversed after we checked out. It's just weird to me that nothing is even pending on my card and the charge was made 2 days ago.

We've had a savings account with Ally for two years and love them. I just told DH the other day that I feel like I get an email from them every other month saying they're upping our savings rate. We opened it at 1% and are now at 1.45%.
I've been using CapOne360 since they were ING, but am thinking of moving the kids' savings accounts and/or our emergency fund savings account to Ally. I haven't looked closely at their offerings but the 1.45% (vs CapOne's 1.0%) is appealing.

For Hulu, I signed up with an AMEX offer, and got $50 back as a statement credit. After the statement credit hit, I switched payment over to another AMEX with the offer hoping that I'll get the $50 credit again. Since it's supposed to only be for first-time subscribers it probably won't work, but I won't know until after mid April. If it doesn't work, I'll switch it over to CIC to see of that works, and if that doesn't get me 5x, I'll do what I do for Netflix.
I did this AmEx offer for Hulu on our already-existing Hulu account and got the $50 credit, so you should be fine to do it on a 2nd card even though it won't be for a new account. When I finished the $50 spend on my AmEx, I switched the Hulu charge to DW's, so I'm hoping to get the credit 2X also.

Chase UR Cruise department can book WDW Tickets without booking a room!! Prices are what you'd pay booking online through Disney. One quirk, I was looking for 8 day tickets and he said he could get me 7 day or 10 day (and most of the days leading up to 7 sorry I wasn't really listening to that part). Now to wonder if I can get a 7 day and add a day to it at once I'm at WDW? For today I just got the quote, 34,800 UR for one 7 day PH with my CSR. Also, the UR travel department cannot book this and tried to sell me on a Universal ticket or private tour guide for WDW instead- are you kidding me? If I hadn't known from here to ask for the cruise department I would be like I was last year thinking this wasn't even possible
That's great to know! I'm working on getting enough in free/discounted Disney GCs to buy our Disneyland tickets for this summer, but nice to know I can buy them with URs as a back up plan.

So, rookie mistake here... When I booked my trip to Miami through Chase UR points, I didn't look to see if there was anywhere I could put in an American Airlines numbers for miles. I don't even know if that's an option. Can I collect AA miles if I booked through UR, and, if so, is there a way to get them retroactively added after I take my trip this coming week? TIA!

I have read where you do get airline miles for this, but that was not my experience with any of my hotel bookings, so not sure if air is different than hotels? We have stayed at several different chains, they all had my numbers and we got zero points or nights credited with any of them.

I am so glad you are all discussing this ally bank. We have been looking at moving our savings to amex, but I like this ally I am reading about. I am now actually thinking we leave WF altogether and move all the accounts there...kids too! I don't see any drawbacks. We don't use the physical branch except for the ATM on a rare occasion.

AA let me put in my info and added my number to the trip, so I guess we'll see what happens!

The feeling when you forget to move your recurring Hulu charge off of your Chase Freedom card after you've maxed out the quarterly bonus... :sad2:

I had the same feeling at lunch. Pulled out my phone to pay with Apple Pay. When the cashier told me they didn't take it, I pulled out my Freedom instead of my CSR. It was only 30 missed points, but 3 hours later, I am still mad about it, especially now that I can purchase Disney tickets without a room!!!!

Yeah, everyone's been creeping up over the last year. Even CapOne360 (ING) finally made it to 1%...

I have been with ING since the beginning and those were the days of 5.25%. Glad it went up to 1% finally and don't want to break up with them, but that almost .5% more with other banks is REALLY appealing!

IIRC, airlines do count toward rewards booked toward loyalty programs whereas hotels definitely do not. It's a quirk of the system for some reason.

Indeed, I have also been with ING since the beginning. I have a LOT of accounts though, the thought of moving them all, as well as all their auto transfers is very daunting...

I am in the same boat, but thinking of maybe moving one that I don't really use...maybe ING will be competitive.

CapitalOne360 checking accounts actually earn more interest than Ally on balances under $15K (0.2% for CapOne vs 0.1% for Ally). I don't keep that much in checking so I'm sticking with CapOne for that. Plus, changing my direct deposit & all my auto-payments is just not something I'm willing to do. I will probably (eventually) move our main savings accounts, though. The Vacation & Christmas ones I'll keep with CapOne, since they have more in/out activity. The kids accounts and emergency fund just get monthly deposits & I try not to touch them besides that, so those are ones I'd move to Ally for the higher APR.

Same, or nearly, I do remember it was easily over 4%... 1% was for brick and mortar banks which was thought was lowest it would go... boy were we wrong :scared1:
We still keep money there but it's not the bulk of our savings. For a while it was the bank with quickest access since we had an ATM card for emergencies, so we have checking accounts with traditional banks with small no-fee savings attached for OD protection, but all our real savings accounts were there. Now it's just where we keep short-term, smallish balances like vacation funds and general house/car maintenance, and we have a checking account, and hubby still has a Sharebuilder account. But once they dropped below 1% any "real" money that stood a chance of earning real-ish interest was moved out and is earning 1.55 or more. And I never thought the day would come we were excited about that :sad2:

Couple years ago we got ATM access to the higher earning accounts so we really don't need to keep any savings there any more but hubby is used to it and since we don't keep large amounts for any significant time there we're not losing out on much.

Well, my Miami trip that I have been SO excited for next week just got canceled st the last minute because DH’s work just threw a huge project on him and told him to cancel the trip. Of course, I booked a non refundable ticket with UR points. Is there ANY chance I can get my points back if I call and plead my case? I’m so upset

For those looking for better interest rates don't forget to check your local credit unions, some only require you live in the area. Mine has a good interest rate on the first 500 in both checking and savings and then it goes down. Any additional savings accounts are at the lower level for the full amount.

I get 1.5% on my money market account with c1 I thought.

I do too. I think there are thresholds for the rates in the savings accounts. I have 2 money markets, one checking and one savings. The savings accounts, money markets and checking accounts all have different rates. Obviously, the checking is the lowest (.2%). The money market accounts definitely get 1.5%.

What does he do for his career!?!? I can’t imagine a job that did that. I’d be resigning pronto. Easier said than done I know. Ha! We just have never had something like that happen so I find it unacceptable.

Well, it was a trip for a conference for his work, so it's not like they're canceling our own personal vacation. I'm just super disappointed since I was so excited to get away and join him. He told me he'd take me somewhere else this summer to make up for it, but the whole point of this trip was that it wasn't costing us anything other than my UR points to get down there since work was paying the hotel and his airfare.

First world problems, I know... I just haven't had a trip since August and was ready for a nice getaway.

Bummer! So sorry. That is why I get nervous trying to piggy back off my husbands trips. I know they can get cancelled at any moment. I would guess nonrefundable means nonrefundable, but I guess it can't hurt to try.

Such a bummer!!

Call and ask. Start with Chase travel. I had a flight with AS that I found out I booked on the wrong day the day before departure. I called AS but they said nothing they could do. I called Chase and they said the same. I tweeted AS in a DM explaining I wanted to cancel but online it was trying to charge me (I had gone online to cancel and it offered to redeposit my like $80 ticket for a charge of like $200), I knew there was no refund but I said I wanted to let the airline know I wouldn't be there. Out of nowhere the twitter rep with AS offered to refund my trip to my CC but I said that won't work (it was Chase's card I'd never get the money back!) and then they offered me a voucher for the cost of the flight good on AS for like a year. I was SO happy! AS got brownie points in my book. So maybe try negotiating with the airline on the phone or on twitter for a voucher for the cost of the trip if they won't cancel it or want to charge an obscene amount of money. Yes, odds are this won't work but I threw a hail mary and it worked for me (I'd also just booked a last minute replacement ticket that cost two to three times what the original ticket did so that might have influenced the rep to help me, idk). Also learned AS Twitter SO much better than AS phone reps.
