I'm planning to visit universal on Saturday, December 2 specifically for Harry Potter. In fact, we might skip the rest of the park entirely. Are Saturdays crazy and if so, are there any good tips?

Crazier than middle of the week, but not Disney crazy.

The usual theme park tips; get there at park opening to ride Forbidden Journey. Eat at off times - don't have lunch at noon have it at 2. You should be able to see and experience everything in less than 4 hours. If that's all you do and then leave you will miss The Magic of Christmas at Hogwarts Castle which promises to be a must see.

Thank you! So is that some kind of show? Night time I am guessing?

I agree with StageTek, Saturday in early December will not be too horrible, especially if you get there early. It will probably be packed in HP from late morning to mid-afternoon. The show is a projection show on Hogwarts Castle, and it should be great as the current projection show is really good.

During the summer they would do four shows, every 15 minutes starting at 9:00 (each show was 6 minutes). It would be packed for the first show and gradually lighten up. You really need to be in front of the castle to hear and see everything as intended, and that area gets crowded. I would imagine the times will be the same for the nights the park is open until 10, not sure when (or if) they will do it on nights the park closes at 7:00 like your date. Maybe at 6:00 since it should be dark by then?

also going to universal for hp at Christmas - was wondering if we go in the morning does universal allow you to come back if you leave without buying another ticket and does their parking garage allow in and out privileges? thanks for your help

The parking garage doesn't allow in-out privileges.
You can leave the park and come back without buying another ticket.

Yes, no in and out for parking but they do have discounted parking (meant for CityWalk) if you're only staying a few hours or sometimes after 5:00.
