This is a day late, but I still wanted to do it.

National Girls & Women in Sports Day celebrates the female athletes in all sports. Today, tell us who the female athletes are in your family. Also please post what the sport is that your athlete play(ed).

Are you a female athlete?
Do you have a female athlete in your family?
Do you or your athlete still play?
(multiple choice)

*please include stepchildren in with daughter, granddaughter and niece

For Me……My oldest DD played soccer ⚽️ and she no longer plays. My youngest DD20 plays softball 🥎 and she currently plays for her college (she’s been playing since she was 7yrs old). I never played any organized sports, but I played outside with friends all the time. I don’t consider myself an athlete, even though I do a lot of athletic things - I was one of my DD20s coaches for her entire town ball and travel softball career and I’ve always been her practicing companion and still am when she’s home (I have hit and pitched a bizillion balls to that girl - LOL!).

I ran Track in HS but that was the only thing girls were allowed to do back in the early 70s. In College I did Intramural basketball.

I took a tennis class and thus played tennis for a long time and then Paddle Ball.

I’ll bite and ask why?
I don’t see anything controversial about this - please share your thoughts.
I think you are trolling me now. ;)

Personally, I see nothing controversial here.
The comment was in jest, so Ill add a ;) - but in the current climate I can see this going off the rails.

I was never an athlete.
My DD was. She played soccer from 3-18. Varsity at high school and 2 other traveling teams.
On the crew team in college.
Karate from 3-12. She attended 3 Junior Olympics and won numerous gold medals.
She went back to karate as an adult, but broke her wrist and then her foot so after a few years stopped.
My DGD is ten and hasn't found her sport yet. She has been doing trampoline for about 2 years, but just for fun and exercise.

That ;) makes all the difference.
I totally get your post now 🙂👍🏼
I agree that there may be some that may want to derail this, but it is what it is. Since I’ve had a St. Patrick’s Day poll go into a 10 page debate, nothing will surprise me - LOL!

hmm... Ill be looking forward to that - what is to debate?!?!?1?

None in my family but I support female athletes in sports I am a huge fan of a sport that is very lacking in female trainers and had two this past year who were extremely successful!! I hope it inspires more women to get into this sport !!

I played sports in high school, which in the 80s was only a decade into offering girls' sports. There wasn't much offered for youth sports when I was younger than high school.

DD loves sports. I've often said she's never met a sport she didn't like. We'd give her opportunities to try something, and it would end up being another favorite. Soccer, basketball, baseball/softball, figure skating, volleyball, swimming, cheer, snowshoeing, bocce, ice hockey to name a few. When she was younger it was challenging to find programs in which she could participate but opportunities have improved just in the past decade. Special Olympics is great, but it's really the local groups that are starting to recognize how sports can help a kid with special needs.

I was in cheer, dance, and color guard back in the day. To me, it is athletic and team sport, but I know others don't so I didn't answer for me.

DD, she has been in soccer, basketball (no longer plays), and archery. Been a tough year for archery with target panic. She is trying desperately to break it. I give her coaches a lot of credit, for this weeks tournament they couldn't have all archers participate. They still chose her to represent, which says a lot and was a boost for her ego. Pretty cool if you ask me.

I was an Olympic hopeful swimmer back in the day. Alas I swam the butterfly and a shoulder injury ended my swimming career. I miss it! I debate getting back in the water all the time.
I hope you do get back in the water! Just got a feeling with reading this you are really wanting to. :-)

I was a competitive figure skater for many years (skated from 5 to 22, competed from about 9-18). And then also played ice hockey in college on a club team. I don't do either any longer.

Sport has always been a big part of my life (participating and watching). In the last few years, I haven't been so athletic. I'd love to get back into it, though.
