Something About Nothing............ #14

Ah yes, that week end Saturday is today, that also happens to be the end of December, and the end of this year. Woot!

And kinda fitting. A warmer and most foggy start, that will see drizzling rain in the evening hours. So a wet we will be when watching that globe go down, if outside. But nope, think all of us wil be inside relaxing at home.

Older one and his friends are going to that mall where he can see the lights of Manhattan. As such, he’s up early, as it’s about almost a 2 hour drive away. I’d like to see it one of these days, but with little one and maybe older one. But not today, as do have some errands to run, and relaxing. Have a headache. So drugs and chilling out today is the right thing to do. Plus, little one said yesterday, her stomach was wonky, thus, I think we both need to be in slower moving mode today. DH is out already, and that’s fine with me. Important to be there for family.

And so, that holiday weekend is here. And the last one if my relaxing days. But at least the new year starts right, with my week day routine having that holiday Monday start. Double woot woot!

Super star happy Saturday to all.

Good New Years Eve everyone.

Merry Christmas to Schumi and Robo.
Merry Christmas to you and your family too. Hope Santa brought you all you wanted.

Merry Christmas everyone 🎄… I hope everyone has a wonderful day with whatever you are doing.
Merry Christmas to you and your family. Hope all is well with all of you.

Yesterday we enjoyed our day though sadly the children had to leave in the afternoon but then we went out for our Christmas Day meal with my daughter to our favourite place. First time ever on Christmas but we really enjoyed it. The meal was delicious and absolutely no rush so by the time we returned home it was pj’s on and feet up with the tv. Would not do it with the children until older but definitely if just us again.
It is hard for the little ones when they have to leave one home and go to another.

Sounds like a lovely dinner with your daughter.

Our construction work was only completed just before Christmas but the driveway and hardstanding in the garden look really good now and it was the last part of our house renovation.
Its nice to see a project completed. I’am sure you all are happy to see it done.

My boss gave me a really nice bonus this year, so barring any emergencies I should be able to take my trip to Universal in September.
So glad to hear your boss is so kind and appreciative of your work. Now time to plan for your HHN getaway in September.

Family time was lovely, we enjoyed seeing everyone, my mum looked so good and we enjoyed some lovely meals out and Christmas Day itself was perfect, my sister and brother prepared a lovely meal for all of us. And we all got some lovely gifts too. And when we got home we had all our presents to share with each other.
Carole so good to hear you had a wonderful Christmas celebration with your family in Scotland. I bet your mom was over the moon with all her family around to celebrate Christmas.

have a long list of appetizers I’ll need to whittle down unless I can figure out how to make them other than the dead oven. plenty of booze to even it all out:)
I hope you are able to get all you need for your shindig. Sounds like a massive tasty spread you are planing. A Keisha smorgasboard of good food.

dudes showed up to rip out the old furnace today, hallelujah indeed! It’s been a week with no heat jik we are keeping track. :teacher: Those real temp nights, especially the -4 on 12/23 was rough indeed. Good thing we had 10 heaters and every blanket i could find in place.
It seems that those things happen at the worst times. So glad to hear you are getting the heating system replaced. Sorry to hear about that happening.

Forgot to post a picture of the Stem Ginger Brack I baked this morning, made five of them to take four round to friends today, kept one back and this is it……tasty, fruity, gingery and moist…….and calorie free……:rolleyes1
Looks delicious.

We had a nice Christmas surprise when we got back home. Before we left for TN dh dropped his car at the Honda dealership. He has been having problems with the odometer and something else that I can't remember. When we go home we were told that the repair was covered under some sort of dealership warranty that we didn't even know we had. (The car is 7 years old.) So the repair cost us nothing.
Nice Christmas gift surprise.

Merry Christmas Happy Hanukkah and Happy New Years everyone! We had a very snowy Christmas! And the city was a mess. The usual news videos of cars & busses sliding around like bumper cars. Our Airport was a hot mess, most flights canceled. Now we’re dealing with the melt and pot holes, flooding roads……ugh
Merry Christmas Sue and Happy New Year to you and your family. Continued good thoughts being sent for your hubby as he continues to move forward in his recovery.

Well, this is a small sample of my charcuterie boards……they can be quite elaborate of course at times if we have guests and many more items on offer.
Those charcuterie boards look fantastic. I spotted the scotch eggs.

Well it New Years Eve today and we are going to be doing round 3 of our Christmas celebrations. We had half the family on Christmas Eve because the other half had Covid.

We had daughter and her hubby from Kentucky over yesterday evening to celebrate. I made prime rib with all the trimmings and made popovers (the cousin of yorkshire pudding) for the first time and they turned out great. We had a very nice visit.

Today we are having the rest of our grandchildren from Kentucky as everyone is now Covid negative and a couple local family again.

So our celebrations continue. So nice to get to see everyone.

Everyone usually heads home about 8 pm. They have about a two hour drive back so maybe just a couple sips of bubbly.

Son and Daughter in law are at Universal for a few days. Enjoying a little getaway.

Have a wonderful New Years Eve everyone.

Happy last day of 2022. No plans for us today. I probably won't even be able to stay awake until midnight.
We have decided to make one last attempt to get to Christmastown at Busch Gardens. Tomorrow the weather should be clear and a high around 60. Our preferred hotel in WIlliamsburg has really low rates tomorrow night, so that's a plus.

Have a headache. So drugs and chilling out today is the right thing to do. Plus, little one said yesterday, her stomach was wonky, thus, I think we both need to be in slower moving mode today.
Hope the two of you are felling better soon.
So glad to hear your boss is so kind and appreciative of your work. Now time to plan for your HHN getaway in September.
I'm excited about planning another trip. I'm even thinking about taking an entire week off work this time.

Merry Christmas again. Enjoy time with the rest of the family.

I have managed to waste away the morning. I suppose I should get up and finish laundry and pack an overnight bag.

We over ordered too much pizza so i do know what lunch will be today

Glad the visit is going well!! And lunch sounds good.....

Thank you Robbie, yes my mum was so happy we were altogether for Christmas. She and Kyle were the best of pals the whole trip, it`s been too long since she`s seen him. Every time we went up he had a bad cold. But, they made up for it this trip.

I know what popovers are!! I had some when my aunt in New York made them.....

Tom and one of our male friends are big Scotch Egg fans. I make them with a spicy coating and they love them. I only make them in a charcuterie very rarely as I`m not a fan.....lol.....I usually fill them with products I love! Bit selfish......

Sounds like you had a wonderful evening with family and some more celebrations to come!! Prime Rib is always a good choice!!

We have friends that stay for in Orlando for a month over Christmas and New Year and they have been amazed how busy it is, they feel it`s busier than it normally is this time of year. They have been avoiding the parks more than usual, but of course still having a lovely time and very grateful for EP, they`re at Portofino now.

Hope you have a wonderful New Year Robbie and 2023.

Did some baking this morning and made our stuffing that doesn`t get stuffed......it`s not for everyone but us and all our friends love it this way.

food24-S.jpg

I do one half of each kg by adding half a jar of cranberry sauce, some like it sweeter. (me)

food25-S.jpg

It`s very meaty when it`s set and cold.

food26-S.jpg

Also baked Cherry Madeira cake, traditional for New Years in Scotland. I maybe should have pictured a slice chock full of cherries!! Even more delicious with butter.

This afternoon we had four friends come round for drinks and nibbles, none of us are out partying tonight, we will stay up till the "Bells" of course but it`ll be a quick celebratory drink then bed probably.

We all reminisced about what we were all like when we were much younger and partied all the time, I didn`t know most of them then of course, but we`re mostly of a similar age and all enjoyed having a lot of fun....some of us still do of course......fun keeps you young my grandma and mum always told me.

Tonight, Chinese Takeout, we did ask our friends if they wanted to stay and have food with us, but they still have folks to see. We popped up to the farm for half an hour and dropped off some food for them in case they don`t feel like cooking tomorrow and a large Christmas pudding we didn`t use, they love it.

Almost the end of the year now.......we have 6 and a half hours till midnight!!

I hope your day at BG goes great, Charade. For us. looks like to the hours of rain we are getting tonight, will be gone, and a full day of sun for tomorrow. Sunny Sunday, and 53 will go our high temp. Nice to score low hotel rate. Safe travels.

Robo, good to hear from you. Nice to be able to see all the family this week. Hope you have a wonderful new year, in 2023.

Schumi, wonderful looking food, and nice to give done leftovers to neighbor farmer.

And so, headache is better, but have yet to see little one. Like Charade, wasted morning away. Took one of the longest showers I have ever done. I think I drained every drop of our hot water. But sometimes that is just perfect. And it was. I’m feeling much better clean and warm. Time to see what littke one wants for lunch. Made burgers for her, with tomatoes and rice mix yesterday. Will see what she is in the mood for.

Looked for the picture I asked Tom to take of the lasagne I made for our farmer couple before he wrapped it up, it`s a dish they both love so I made an extra large one just for them, it would feed 8 people.......I know they`ll love it and it`s big enough it`ll do them a few days, they don`t mind reheating it, not for us though.

He forgot to take a picture!! Has he just met me......

Still chucking it down with rain here.......it`s getting heavier. Nice cosy night to be in together..... 🥰

Off to decide what we want for our takeout later......☺️

Well all i have is left over pizza for dinner later tonight
It will do fine as we have 5 pizzas left over from last night to eat up
None of us could agree what we all wanted for toppings so ordered 5 pizzas

Family can finish up the left overs.
Don’t think any of them will be very hungry as Mr Mac and kids stopped at an eatery in town for food about half hour ago
They will do a late lunch and can kill the pizza that’s in the fridge later tonight

I am pizza ‘ed out for the rest of this year!
It’s such a shame my cats won’t eat pizza..

I keep looking at the dish schumi made for her neighbors and can’t figure out what it is

My first thought it was tuna fish but don’t imagine I am correct

The first two are raw sausagemeat that makes up the stuffing, little like meatloaf, add cooked leeks and black pepper with some other seasonings.

Last meat picture is the cooked version.

That`s not what we made for the farm couple, I made them a huge lasagne.

Ah, for little one, bought a store done chicken, cut up carrots I had, penne pasta, large box of chicken broth, and my version of chicken pasta soup. Was delicious for a late lunch today.

Older one came home a little while ago, as was not hungry as he and friends ate at the Yard House on their way home. Older one saw nothing of interest to buy at the mall.

After lunch, little one and I did errands, and was still oh so foggy, could not even see the traffic lights until very close to them. Phone said visibility was 160 feet. Yes, feet! Ugh, and the heavy traffic, with some stupid drivers, as not even having their lights on. Hard enough to see lighted vehicles in the thick fog. And at times, was raining too. So, to finish our errands, a pick up of meats from the deli, with fresh rye from the Jewish deli we like, and you make sandwiches, toasted or not, as a late dinner. And for both my kids, were happy that coffee shop was open as we passed by from the deli, so both got a drink from there, for dinner.

I’d be tired of pizza too, Mac. I can see leftover meal once, then no more for me.

Now just relaxing with tea. Headache is starting again, so more drugs with my tea. I can see an early evening nap, maybe. But it feels good to be chilling tonight. Though I guess my neighbors are getting ready. Heard some fireworks already. Sigh. I may be sound asleep before that clock strikes midnight. We shall see. Not much that I’m interested in on the tube tonight so far,

Hi Mac! I love olives too, we’ll have to arm wrestle for them lol!

Schumi lovely board. I made one for Christmas to keep the hoards happy till dinner. We had 3 couples all 30-32 yrs old. Those people are ravenous! I love to graze.

Charade, lunchables :p

Keisha yup it’s a tricky spelling charcuterie. I keep forgetting.

Lynn did I hear you had no heat! Yikes.

It’s pouring rain here. First the weather tried to kill us with crazy cold, -10c and lots of snow. Everything shut down. We don’t know how to handle it. Now it’s trying to drown us!
The weather sure has changed. We never used to get much snow in town. Just in mountains. I bought my husband a snow blower one year after a storm. Then he had to wait 3 yrs till it snowed again to use it! And rare it gets minus anything here.
But climate is changing For sure!

Our plans changed tonight. We were supposed to go over to brother in laws for dinner. But he canceled out today. He’s sick! Suits us, we’ll just have a quiet evening at home. DH popped some bubbly for dinner.

I ordered myself a new carry on from Amazon lol. I like having a tote in addition to my wheeled carry on suitcase for easy access to things I need during flight, electronics, cords, wipes, snacks etc. This one has a Trolley strap so it won’t keep falling off suitcase while walking around airport. Should arrive this week.

Happy New Years

Happy New Years

Charcuterie is a lovely way to share good quality foods with just the two of us or with a group of friends where it`s much larger scale......the complete opposite of lunchables of course ☺️

There are so many things to put on them and yes Olives are always popular! We have a deli that sells ones stuffed with a roasted garlic bulb and others with a whole small softened sizzling hot chilli pepper, not quite Scotch Bonnet`s, but fiery enough it adds a lot of heat to the olive, they`re the most popular ones. but, we love charcuterie boards and have them often in various forms.

We had a very quiet New Year too Sue, it was quite lovely. Happy New Year Sue.

Happy New Years everyone.

My wish for the New Year is that we all have a wonderful, Happy, Healthy New Year.

That is a nice wish Robbie.......

Well, a little later sleep, but considering we didn`t go to bed till around 2am, I should still be sleeping. But, tea and bacon beckon for us this morning, Tom will have some eggs benedict I think, I`ve got everything ready for when he gets up. Nice pot of tea first.

We did get so many txts last night and a couple of calls, which was one of the reasons we ended staying up till around 2am. We opened a bottle of champagne at midnight, but that was enough.

Decorations and trees will come down tomorrow. House always looks so bare after that.

And Easter eggs are in the stores apparently......saw some pictures yesterday....crazy. A bit like some grocery stores are open today.....some have stayed closed so people can have time with family, no real need for stores to be open today, we won`t be frequenting any.

But, it`s Sunday, New Years Day.......time for breakfast....... 🥓 🥞 🍾

Ah, going to bed early makes my awake early. Did wake up at midnight, as many neighbors had quite the fireworks displays for a good 15 minutes, before the last bang was heard. But then I went back to sleep.

Such nice New Year wishes from Sue, Schumi, Charade, and Robo. I too hope all have a very happy and healthy 2023.

Sue, at the end of October and into November our heater needed fixing. It was by mid November. And thankfully, it’s been a nice warm house ever since it was fixed. I hope it doesn’t need servicing for many more years.

Thus, I hope Keisha goes her heat issues fixed soon too. At least warmer temps for a few days.

Thus, so happy it’s not quite that alarm on and trash to the curb Sunday. Another day of rest before both have to be done tomorrow. Yay for a holiday observed Monday.

Thus, a quiet house for me. And we are warm. Already 49 degrees. Was a warmer overnight. Clouds will arrive in the evening, but as enjoying looking at a clear sky now, and will be clear most of the day. Time to rock those shades again, in 53 degrees. Woot! Though ack, see snow mentioned in the 7 day forecast. Not ready for it yet. Ack. But see we will be 64 the high on Wednesday, with 37 the high on Friday. And Friday’s high temp is only one degree lower than the high temp on week ending Saturday. Quite the swing in temps this week. But I will certainly enjoy those warmer days in the beginning of this week.

Charcuterie board for dinner tonight
Whipped up a few of them for yesterday’s spread. Never saw a cheese board with that sort of sliding tray, nice! I have a bunch of them in varying sizes, designs & wood. Like to pick up them in our travels , my favorite is a hand carved, ornate dark wood one in the shape of a pineapple. have a marble slab one I use for cheese now & again too that I like.
A-D-U-L-T L-U-N-C-H-A-B-L-E
Lol that’s a stretch indeed. Will say never bought those for my kids to take to school for lunch as just a bit too processed with salt & saturated fat for my liking. I would cut out cheese & healthy sort of lunch meats into shapes with cookie cutters for them along with a little smiley or note on a napkin.

one of my adult children asked me to whip them up a lunch a while ago for them to stop and grab as working a long shift. texted me later asking where were the little bites. They did get a note :)

lynne - new furnace is quite the change For us. I had to set the thermostat down to 60 degrees as it felt sweltering. encouraging it might just help lower the winter gas bills :). Still, it was admittedly miserable in the sub zero weather.
hope you are able to get all you need for your shindig. Sounds like a massive tasty spread you are planing. A Keisha smorgasboard of good food.
everything fell into place nicely. So much leftovers, the kids will all breeze thru today to give it another whirl. The mr, just rising after a long night, has put an order in for steaks on the grill later. I can live with that :)

looking forward to more football today, NHL winter classic tomorrow, etc. we do tend to keep the celebrations going here. Just as well heading into the belly of winter
Well it New Years Eve today and we are going to be doing round 3 of our Christmas celebrations. We had half the family on Christmas Eve because the other half had Covid.
Sounds like yet another great time in your house! Had 2 of my kids take covid tests the last couple of days. Appears to be a virus of some sort Making the rounds. My mom caught covid again on xmas, working it’s way thru her hall at the nursing home...triggering the extension of their isolation period. Had thot those days were finally over, nope.
I am pizza ‘ed out for the rest of this year!
are we talking 2022 or 2023? hahaha. Glad to hear you had family in town to help share the holidays this year

Last week, was excited to discover a jarred type of jalapeños with milder heat. Older i get, the more fiery the hot peppers seem…turning into a lightweight

Haha, still like that nose clearing heat sometimes, Keisha. I made one of those boards for Christmas, using the meats from that deli and fancy cheeses from Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s, added two kinds of olives and some chocolate covered almond. And all that was left was a few almonds. The one kind of olives. I think my one brother took, and no one got any of those. I for one, ate all but the olives. Not a fan, but do like the oil from them.

Rest of soup and some bagels from that deli was lunch. Happy little one. We even broke out the cream cheese block. Yum from me too. Toasted bagels with cream cheese, and warm chicken soup.

Headache is pretty much gone. Took more medicine to make sure it’s gone for sure. Just a few errands to do. Think maybe will pick up sone more tomatoes. Little one ate the ones we bought the others day. The place we got them is a dairy store, so will pick up some fresh made ice cream this time. It’s so good tasting. Nice we have dairy farms close enough to us. And Keisha and I live in a state that has more cows than people. But all dairies don’t have public stores, but as the closest one to us does, it’s so nice to get dairy stuff from them. Better tasting I think.

Hope all are having a good Sunday.

Gorgeously sunny day here. So perfect to start this week, and year. Too bad this first week of January ends with snow chances. Ugh. Time of year coming when it tends to be our coldest month. That coldest time honor usually is February. Good thing that month is our shortest.😊

So soon time to be outside. Woot! Shades rocking with no jacket. Deserves another woot.
