Any current benefit to declining Mousekeeping?

Hi all,

Is there any current benefit to declining Mousekeeping? On our June trip this year, they came to our room at least once a day to check on towels and coffee and stuff. It seemed a little too much, so I have us down for declining on our upcoming stay in Poly Studio (cash reservation). But, now that I am thinking about it (obsessing over every detail), we do need coffee and we like towels? I have never declined Mousekeeping before. Looking for input.

TIA!
Christy

At the moment, no. There was an option pre-covid that gave a $10 gift card for each night of your stay for declining mousekeeping. You can always keep the Do Not Disturb sign on the door if you don't want them coming to your room so often and just call if you need anything. That's what we do.

I haven't heard that the security checks have stopped so I believe each room is being 'viewed' each day. Not sure that they're entering but prior to Covid they looked into (and sometimes entered) each room. Even when declining housekeeping, security checks were still done.

I thought they were still doing the giftcards?

But they aren't doing for DVC resorts, are they? OP said they were in a studio at the Polynesian on a cash reservation.

Disney never offered money in exchange for declining housekeeping at a deluxe resort or DVC.

Thanks, everyone. We are going to go with the awesome suggestion of using the Do Not Disturb sign (I feel dumb for not thinking of that when we were at Riviera). :D

Just for the record: unless something has changed during the shutdown, there is no Do Not Disturb sign. All such signs were replaced a long, long time ago with Room Occupied signage.

This alerts anybody preparing to enter the room, notice that there might be people inside at that moment.

Again:
Light housekeeping will be performed every other day.
No housekeeping will be performed on the alternate days during one's stay.
Housekeeping CMs will NOT enter an occupied room. Per Disney regulation.

I understand that that is the policy, but that is not what we experienced at Riviera. We had visits from housekeeping each day (multiple visits on a few days) asking if we needed anything and offering to trade out towels/collect trash. It wasn't a problem or anything, just unnecessary. Maybe they were bored because occupancy was so low in June.

I'd still have them pass us by. Protects them. Protects us. Some folks need them but we just drop off the trash at a can outside and have them drop off towels if we need them.
Prior to everything, we opted out of it because there was a surcharge that was refunded and we're not overly messy people (while on vacation; at home, well, that's anther story). Going forward, this will be why we won't do it.

You'll find you won't miss them. We still randomly tip when we see them. They have a hard job.

They are still entering rooms for security check. I have experienced this at BLT and Riviera and POP within last few weeks. Always had Room Occupied Sign on door and we were in room wHen they knock and ask if it is convenient to enter room now for security check. They walk in and out but have not offered any conversation and yesterday he flushed the toilet. I guess I might have had something hidden in there... weird

I decided to go to front desk to ask for extra blanket . Castmember said I could call next time from room phone or use the APP for requests.
Theyare very polite but really want to keep personal contact to a minimum for everybody’s protection. I respect that.

We've always left the Room Occupied sign on the door and the only time they came to make a security check was right after they implemented that new measure during my February 2018 trip at ASSp. The CM just knocked during our beloved mid-day nap and asked if we're okay and left, didn't even enter the room. Since then, we never got the check at ASMo, Pop, AoA, or AKL.

If it's not "safe" to have housekeeping staff come in while the room is occupied, it's also not "safe" to have anyone else other than your traveling party come in the room either.

I am a little skeeved out by this because even "before," I decline housekeeping everywhere simply because I don't want to have to wipe everything down again after they touch everything.

Definitely something I will need to think about as I plan my first WDW trip.

I believe Housekeeping will be a thing of the past here soon. No housekeeping, no gift card, nothing. (except for the day when you check out) Some people are good with that and that is fine, but for those who did like having our room cleaned daily, it will just be another example of a budget cut or charging for something that was once free.
