There’s been a number of articles of outbreaks in places like WV, Kentucky, & Ohio that seem to be traced back to Myrtle. The case counts have been rising like crazy there too, but to be fair they’re rising where I live in Pittsburgh with 4 of the past 5 days each breaking our previous record. So what are the updates regarding travel to Myrtle Beach? We have a trip planned at the end of the month. I have been trying not to watch the news so I must have missed something.
For us, it was just a personal decision. My sister in law is pregnant and they elected not to go. So now we end up in a strange spot; should we pay them their $600 share back? And do we want to go without them? (Answer: Not really).
Distancing at Myrtle seems next to impossible, and would look nothing like the glorious pics of our private beach at Captiva I shared last week. We weren’t planning to visit restaurants or go shopping or do go-karts due to the elevated risk (I mean I’m not doing that stuff at home even). So the things we enjoy most down there were pretty much off the table.
So basically, it was a debate on whether sinking hundreds of more dollars into a mediocre trip (by our standards) was worth it without our travel companions. We chose to sit this one out... and now we got a 100% full refund from Airbnb so I’m even happier about the decision with $1,000 in my pocket (and $700 back to my brother in law) and hundreds more in expense avoided!
