RotR Planning & Daily Boarding Group Discussion - *CLOSED*

Just my observation ... maybe they are not giving out as many boarding groups today so they don’t have the same issue as yesterday not being able to get to the higher boarding groups. If the day goes well maybe they will add more??
I agree that is probable, but if so Disney REALLY needs to restrict BG to one per person. If they hold off opening BG distribution until later then so many more people will have used their boarding and would be eligible for a second ride. That would mean more competition for the people who didn’t ride at all.

while I appreciate the VQ , it's clearly aimed at the folks who are arriving with a clear intention to Ride The New Ride, vs the casual park visitor. I do think Disney should advertise the 6am opening, if crowds / demand continue -

Personally I'm disappointed as I had hoped to hop in the Rise line next week , some night,an hour before park close - aka wait in line no matter the wait time :( We arrive Wed AM , and I'm not sure I can get our entire guest party in for 6-7am, given only 2 of the 5 are chomping at the bit for Rise.

I’ll give Disney a pass for a few days as they deal with ride opening excitement and such as they figure out how to best operate the ride and deal with crowds, but personally I find opening the entire park at 6am with a posted 9am park opening rather disingenuous on Disney’s part.

Many guests who have done a smidge of research/planning assume/plan for being let in the park early as Disney routinely does, but probably not 3 hours early. Many more guests who don’t follow details closely (which is likely a large majority of park visitors on any given day) would have absolutely no clue.

I doubt the 6am openings will continue for a long period and you’ll see that migrate more towards normal DHS opening procedures (whatever that turns out to be in the post-RotR era), but still.

The whole thing leaves a bad taste in my mouth and none of it affected me or my trip. First they decide to close off the land early on 12/4, forcing people to move or cancel reservations previously made so they can have some glitzy VIP "media" event. Now this?

I really think it's a bad look.

I’m waiting near the ride entrance and they just blocked it off. They called 25 an hour ago and still haven’t called 26. Which is my group, of course.

Great morning so far. Walked on to MF:SR and all of TSL, then breakfast at Woody’s. Now I just need them to start moving so I can get my ride in before heading back to FQ to crash for a few hours.

I do agree that it’s a bit crazy that they opened the park 3 hours early without notice. Especially since the park buses to HS didn’t even start running until the park had already been open for almost half an hour.

I know, I’m 28. I was heading out of the park to wait at home when it came back up so I decided to stick it out. I couldn’t believe they never called new groups. Heading home now. I’m sure they’ll cal my group as soon as I get there.

Good gosh!

I hope by May we are just back to the good old fashioned "wait in line" scenario. :rotfl:

I'll have to spend 3 days there to ride 3 rides - 1 day for RoTR, 1 day for Railway and 1 day for Slinky.
Why would you want it to go to standby? with VQ you go into the park and join a boarding group for RotR then you can go rope drop anything else and fp a tier 1 attraction.
As opposed as a standby where you get in the park and have to physically stay put for hours waiting in one line

Even worse will be Sunday with EMH. I have no idea what they are going to do. Surely they’ll stick to what they said for that day.

I have been trying to convince my family to go early for EMH on Sunday. Was planning to arrive around 7. But if they open at 6 AM again and give out boarding passes to everyone I’m going to be pretty upset given that they’ve said the ride won’t even be open during EMH. Not sure it’s worth it. Ugh.

With the breakdowns I think this is actually a good system for someone that wants to spend the whole day DHS. The issue was people didn’t know about it or how to plan for it. But I’d imagine MMRR will have FP and you’ll be able to get either that or Slinky and do the other (and every other ride in the park) at rope drop and while you wait for your BG. I doubt they keep the BG system for that long but I actually wish they would. Beats waiting in a 3 hour queue, especially when you know there is a good chance it will break down in line.

I just changed our dinner reservation at Toledo from our arrival on Wednesday night to Friday night at 8:30.
This gives us Wednesday to go to DHS after we arrive and just be there from afternoon to close and just see what the heck we can get done! :)

(have another full day and half planned later on in trip, I think day 6 or 7 so fast passes if available will wait until then)

We did same as you. Rode BG 11. Got in again with 20, then ride broke down and we got FP, but also got a 3rd BG (29). Did all of Toy Story Land, got breakfast at Woody's, are doing rock and roller coaster and tower right now with no wait.
You are having a great day!:thumbsup2

exactly. I love this system. I mean, I do think it sucks to have it full before official park opening, but this system is awesome in that I can go ride my 3 FP's rides while In a virtual line for another ride.

I see both sides:
If I was paying a good chunk of money to visit WDW I would research, again these early openings are nothing new, Pandora, 2.5 years after it opens still does this. People interested in riding any new attraction at DIsney should know it will be popular, especially this one with all the hype.
On the other side Disney should say on their website and app that the park might open earlier than posted opening times.
Operations opens the park depending on crowds outside the gates, the larger the crowds the earlier they try to open the park, which is why for the past 3 years they have been opening MK Main Street an hour before official park opening.

Because I don't want to think park opens at 8 and find out everyone was there at 6 and all the boarding passes are gone. :confused3

It's not a big deal, I'm sure things will be sorted by May. I was more just conversing.

How would you propose someone research this? These boards are a tiny percent of people who visit WDW daily.

There were people in our Skyliner cabin who booked a trip Thanksgiving week because they thought no one would be there! The average WDW guest has no idea what is going on right now. You have to follow DIS Twitter or read these SUBforums to know!

Sorry I think it's really lousy of them to do this.

As for the 6 am open, I get the frustration on “missing out” but the fact is by opening early the park is serving all guests more. That means more operation time for all rides. If DHS opened at 9, those that arrived at 8:45 would still have been shut out. Even factoring in the re riders, three extra hours of operation is still more people riding.
I’m shocked this info didn’t leak though. Kind of impressed about that. All those CM’s had to have known they were working at 6am.

Now that's just really really bad planning on their part.

I don’t mind that the VQ is full quickly, to me it makes total sense for a brand new attraction that was this anticipated would see this kind of thing in the first days of opening. Especially one we had heard about having reliability issues. And without the VQ it would be a mess if they had to clear the queue every time it went down and distribute FastPass. Not necessarily here but on Facebook groups I’ve seen a lot of people complaining how unfair it is you can’t walk in later in the day and ride. First (and now second) day of one of the most anticipated attractions ever, I don’t know why anybody thought that would work!

Being annoyed with the unposted early openings I can get behind. That is obnoxious.

simple google search will do.
If I'm visiting WDW for opening of rise google "tips for riding rise of the resistance at hollywood studios"
I guess it's how much you value your money, again if I'm spending a lot on a vacation I would want to be prepared. Sure people come here blindly but at that point it's on them for not researching
