AP lines. Sometimes longer than regular?

We are AP holders and “sometimes” take the AP line into the parks. The reason the word sometimes appears here is cause there are times the AP lines are actually longer than regular lines. I have always wondered if this was cause there are truly more AP people than I thought, or if people without AP read the sign but choose to ignore it.
Would anyone on the forum know if a non AP person would be turned away from the line during the finger scan or it can be used by anyone and the AP sign is simply there to be ignored?

Honestly most CM's try to avoid argument and if a Non-AP holder goes into that line after reminding them it's AP only they usually let them use it anyway.

You'd think in theory since most AP holders are super repeat guests the line would move faster due to familiarity, but during our last trip I think we only used the AP line once or twice.

It depends on when you visit. When we were there over Christmas last year, the AP lines were a life saver. We have APs, but I have never seen the CMs looking at what type of ticket is used -- as long as the tapstile turns green, they don't seem to be looking for the ticket type. Like most things at WDW that would require a CM to confront a guest, it's pretty much the honor system.

I didn't even know there were AP lines!

I'll have an AP, our other ticket will be a hopper. Guess I'll just go on ahead and wave at him while he's in line! ;)

I think the vast majority of people going through the AP line are AP holders. It’s just one line, compared to several regular lines, so I can see why it gets longer from time to time.

As an AP holder, I usually use whichever line is shorter, but occasionally use the AP line even when it is longer, since it usually moves faster (for me anyways) then the regular line.

It almost always seems to be busier. During the summer last year people who had 3 day passes were in front of us and had trouble. I think people see a shorter line and just get in it.

You are allowed to bring everyone in your party through the AP line with you.
That may be, but I wasn't bringing the 9 other people in my party through the AP line with me. I only used the AP line a couple times on my last trip, one of them when I was alone and the other at the IG where I wouldn't have to wait 5-10 mins for the rest of my party to go through the tap stiles.

I use it when it’s the shorter line, usually is in the afternoon parks. Mornings it tends to be just as long as any other line. It does move faster though, most know the routine to get thru the turnstiles.

That pretty much defeats the AP perk of a special queue, and would explain why it's not such a great deal sometimes.

We are a party of two and bought one AP and will have one hopper, but I doubt there are that many parties of people like us that would make a difference? I think reading that people without APs are in these lines sometimes too.

It's just us two, we'll be quick! ;)

I have been told by a number of CM it is limited to 3 none AP holder per person with an AP I have seen people get turned away that did not have an AP and people trying to bring more then 3 people with them.

If it is just one extra you will be fine you can bring in up to 3 extra people

Never happened to me. Party of 5 with 1 ap. I never asked the first time we went through. The CM overheard me saying an AP line didn’t help me when no one else in my group had one. She volunteered you could bring your family with you so I did. It’s been several years now and not one time has anyone said anything.

It's just like any other line....sometimes it's shorter and sometimes it's longer. I've seen people getting into that line when there were empty lines elsewhere (no idea why other than they just wanted to use it because they could??) and I've used it when it was nearly empty and other lines were long. I asked about bringing family through who weren't AP's and was told that wasn't a problem at all (no mention of a limit as to how many could come through and nobody asked if the non-AP's were with us when we tapped in so I don't know if there is really any difference other than there being a portable sign out front of the line).

Like others, I've used it & not. I've also taken non-AP thru that line with me. But, contrary to the OP, I tend to think non-AP using the line just didn't see the sign. I think the signs are pretty small & you have to be looking to find them. I also think the excitement, chaos & noise of a tapping area could cause a lot of people not to even notice. If they see a short line they'll get in it. I don't think they're trying to disregard the sign, there's just a lot going on.

Well it was one time. And some CM do there job better then others and it could be other things that factor in like how crowded and such

Eh, if the CMs are allowing it I’m really not going to worry about what strangers on the internet say. Maybe the ones not doing their job correctly are the ones who are turning families away. Who knows. All I know is they’ve always allowed us to do it and I can only go by what they say.

We will take whichever line is shorter. Sometimes that is the AP line, other times it the standard line. Love it when the AP line is short.
