Galaxy's Edge, will they really serve alcohol?

This article is some guys perspective on why Disneyland will soon have an alcohol policy similar to the Magic Kingdom at WDW where it is served at table service restaurants. He believes the table restaurant will have the same effect as the Be our Guest restaurant did at WDW and will be the beginning of alcohol being served at Disneyland.

What do you guys think?

I don't drink, so it isn't something I want. But I know others who do and they wish it was there. But Walt was opposed to the idea as it is supposed to be a place for families to spend time together. Of course times have changed and Disneyland is no longer a place just for families with young kids.

BIG,BAD, IDEA. Too many people cant live with out the booze for some reason and I have run into way too many drunks, but Dis corporate has to make money any way they can. Walt did not want booze except in a very controlled area.

I drink so I'm down with it. I don't want to see anyone wasted and acting like a dirtbag but it would be nice for the people who just want a drink or two. At the same time, there are so many other places to drink on property so its not entirely necessary. People can drink before they come into the park if they want and that's easy. I wouldn't mind the WDW version to be the only one with alcohol since Hollywood Studios already serves alcohol in the park so it's not a change the way it is for DL.

I'd like to see Disneyland remain alcohol free and hope that it will stay that way even with the opening of SWGE. I can see why MK almost had to add alcohol to all of the TS locations in the MK given the popularity of the dining plan and the addition of adult beverages to it, but without that, I don't know if it would have expanded beyond Be Our Guest. If they do add it to SWGE at DL, I hope that it would be like Be Our Guest where it had to be drunk in the restaurant and could not be taken out of the building. I also think the fact that DCA does have alcohol and is easily accessible from DL, takes some of the pressure off adding alcohol to DL's restaurants.

Someone I'm acquainted with is a CM and told me recently that she sees people ejected from the park -- and having their APs suspended -- on a regular basis because they're hammered. I, myself, saw two guys kicked from the park about 18 months ago because they were drunk and disorderly. I recall hearing at least one cuss word shouted near the entrance to Tomorrowland. We don't need to exacerbate the problem.

I think it would be nice if they’d offer it at sit down meals. I drink because I enjoy the flavor, can’t even tell you the last time I was drunk. I really only drink water and alcohol, so it’d be nice to have an option other than water at dinner.

We didn’t see any issues with drunk people at WDW, even during food and wine at Epcot.

I see no issue with it. It is now served at 5/6 domestic Disney theme parks and 2/2 waterparks. Disneyland is literally the only holdout. It's time to drop the old fashioned rule. Walt drank alcohol. And, times have changed. There's not much left at Disneyland that Walt would even recognize today.

Once again it is a problem of the few who ruin it for the rest of us.

I have seen enough people at Disneyland shouting profanities because they are drunk. And it shouldn't be happening in a childrens theme park. You can drink at home or hotel. But my family doesn't need to be subjected to it because you can't hold your liquor while waiting in line for Snow White.

You should have heard the grad night kids last weekend. Filthy potty mouths, yelling profanities, and literally running people down in the parks.

Alcohol is not always to blame for bad behavior.

I vote to maintain the original plan - no alcohol in Disneyland.

I suspect the number of Park Hopper tickets sold would decrease dramatically if people didn't have to run to DCA for their beers in the heat of the afternoon! :P
Too true. We were visiting DLR with my parents and late the first afternoon my dad was grumpy and wanted to hop to DCA. My mom said he wanted a drink and that was why he really wanted to go to DCA.

I would say yes to the alcohol as long as it looks like the Cantina from the original Star Wars. :)

:wizard:
and isn't there a scene in Bullwhip Griffin where he sends a fellow down the wood bar....in the Saloon....loaded with mugs full of beer.......yes, lets increase the popularity of the Golden Horseshoe.

I don't think so. At least I really hope not. A little piece of Disneyland will die if they do. LOL ok dramatic but this was Walt's park and his vision and wish was for it to be dry. He designed it, built it, and walked the streets alongside guests. MK was not opened until 5 years after he died, construction was not even started until the year after he died. I think for that reason Disney was more willing to open up MK to alcohol, while DL stays dry. Also you can just walk right across the Esplanade or to your right to DTD for booze if you really cannot handle one day in the park without it.

As a parent of young kids, and as someone who has been visiting with an AP since I was a kid myself, I hope it stays dry forever. <3 I think it is part of the magic and escape from the real world (except those who snuck it in)

As a total side note, I have friends who literally cannot go to DL with their kids without sneaking in alcohol in every way possible. I do not know how they do not get caught with the sheer amount of liquids they bring it, it has to raise a red flag at some point.

It has to be pretty easy to sneak it in right? They never check water bottles. All you gotta do is fill up a Poland spring bottle with some espolon and boom. With this I'm surprised there aren't more drunks in the park but I'm glad there aren't.

I think they will probably start serving alcohol seeing how focused they are on profits. They can make a ton of money off of it and I don't see it being a problem with guests thus far. I've never seen anyone acting out of control at DCA. And I don't think they care what Walt himself would do or wants regarding how the parks are operated today. From everything I've read about Walt he seemed to be very focused on the park experience for guests. And in the past 25+ years the focus seems to be very focused on profits and alcohol sales are a highly profitable business. I'm honestly surprised they didn't start selling it years ago. They are leaving a lot of money on the table.
