I love credit cards so much!

How soon is too soon to pull the money back out? I opened a Memory Bank account on 5/2, funded with Marriott Biz. Then I set up transfers from my CapOne360 account for the ACH requirement. I set it to transfer $200/week for 3 weeks so it would look more like regular activity and not just going for a bonus. Is that necessary? This is my first time trying for a bank bonus. I'm actually considering keeping the account, and moving the bulk of my emergency fund into it for the 1.6% interest. So I guess I could pay the CC back from my EF and call it a wash, instead of transferring the funds back out of Memory.

And I will add my sob story... I had the 30K incognito offer for SPG personal pulled up at work, but hemmed and hawed over it for so long that I had to abandon my desk to go to a meeting. When I got back, the link had expired and I could not get it to pull up again. I ended up applying under the regular 25K offer, because at that time we thought the card was going away. Well, now that it's apparently not and there is supposed to be a "rich bonus" offered again at some point, I mourn the loss of those 5K SPG points.

I went on a field trip with 27 3rd graders. :scared1: :faint:
I took 20 kindergartners to a dairy farm yesterday lol.

Welcome to the approval dance party!

:cheer2:party::thumbsup2:cool1::woohoo:

CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Thank you! I asked DH to do an approval dance while we were walking. It was a pretty funny dance. I always do the "Chandler" dance from Friends.

On an unrelated note, we walked downtown today and saw a GIANT Twinkie blow up in the front of someone's yard. I couldn't even see their grass. It was just kind of lying there on its side lol

We are looking into other banks for our checking, but so far haven't found any. We are looking for something to still give us that 3% without the $10 minimum spend. Anyone have any ideas?

When I call Chase, they always thank me for being a private client. I don’t have any investments with them, so it confuses me. Is it because of my HELOC?
I believe Chase Private Client requires 250k in deposits/investments. I think it is also given to immediate family members if you’re on an account jointly with a CPC person.

No investments with Chase and not an immediate family member of a CPC, unless DH has a whole lot of money he isn’t telling me about.

But honestly, I am afraid to ask about it because being CPC might have some perks, I assume.

ETA: our Chase checking usually has just $2k in it, so no where close to $250k.

Chase UR's Refer-A-Friend/Business breakdown is completely useless. I've never seen any "support" points tabulated into that category. "Support" points don't even show under recent award activity. The only thing you can really do is monitor your points under "Earning on Next Statement." If you've got 10,000 more points than what you should have from spend, that's one bonus; 20,000 points, that's two.

You should also keep track of how many bonuses you've earned for that card. It really helps if people who use your links let you know, but that doesn't always happen so you just need to add up your points. Chase "support" bonuses are limited to 5 per year per card (at least on the CSR, CSP, and CIP), so once you've maxed out your support clicks, it helps everyone else here if you remove your link so that "support" clicks don't go wasted.

Is your points balance 10k higher though? Or is it saying you got them and really didn’t. I’m looking at my statement too and it’s saying I only earned 87,000 points for the year, but that’s not right because I got 20k for the referral. I definitely got the 20k points.

Thank you! This is the explanation I needed! I’ll have to take the time to go back and check - to be honest I wasn’t tracking my earned points. I expected it to show up in the awards activity list. I don’t understand how they have a Refer-A-Friend category (it even has its own color on the little wheel) and they don’t utilize it. Makes absolutely no sense!

I’m still relatively new to this. I joined reddit but I have absolutely no idea how to use it! I haven’t shared any referral links yet, this referral was the first one I’ve ever done. It was actually for a family member, so I know it was used. I just couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t see the bonus listed on my account! I’ve been transferring my points to my CSP card every once in awhile, so I have to go back and do the math to make sure the points were there.

Thanks for being so much more helpful than the Chase SMs were lol!

Sorry, I have another question. Is there an email I can use to ask about our exact date for our 3 month spending requirement? I hate calling.

Yeah it has decent perks with a bunch of waived fees (wire transfers, money orders, cashiers checks, monthly fees, free checks) and stuff. If you somehow got in I would just take it and run lol. But the way most of use banks these days it probably isn’t worth much.

I also don’t intend to insult those who like active managed investments. I’m just a passive Vanguard guy through and through (it’s the early retirement FIRE obsessions inside me!) :thumbsup2

I’ll quote myself and say perhaps it is possible to own Vanguard funds and avoid high AUM fees with CPC. You learn something new everyday...I still would personally have no interest but that’s just based on being in the industry and seeing what Private bank and Private client goals and motivations are.

Huh, well fwiw here’s the brochure on it including its (limited) perks: https://www.chase.com/content/dam/chasecom/en/private-client/documents/deposit_products_services.pdf (Maybe there’s a JP Morgan investment account for one or both of you that gets you here.)

I get it. All of my non-employer investments are at Vanguard.

I don’t have a JP Morgan anything account. Just TIAA, Vanguard and Fidelity. So confused, and at first I thought I heard them wrong but they have thanked me the last several times that I have called.

Yikes! One 3rd grader is enough for me. DSs class went to Legoland Discovery Center last week. Can’t imagine containing 3 classes of third graders in a place full of Legos

I took 20 kindergartners to a dairy farm yesterday lol.
I guess it’s field trip season, lol. We went to see a play (Charlotte’s Web). Thankfully it was children’s theater so the show was only an hour long. We spent more time on the bus than we did at the theater. :rolleyes2

On topic, sort of... I hate sending in cash to pay for field trips. Think I can convince the teacher to take PayPal next year? I could’ve gotten 5X points! :rotfl2:

We have only ever flown economy (I guess is what you would call it?). We typically choose the seats near the back and I always have to have window seat. DH usually gets his middle seat free and I end up paying to have the window.

You shouldn't have a hard time finding economy award seats. Now, finding them at saver level may be more challenging but not if your dates are flexible for the most part. It's the business and first class that you literally have to try and snag the moment they are released.

thank god I'm single... I don't have to explain to my SO that I bought a phone for churning purposes... :P

If you're married to another travel hacker, no explanations either. I mentioned to DH that I got a new Amex Blue Business card and he immediately asks if he needs to go get one too.

Seriously? This is something you can do? What would be the purpose (besides getting the reward for opening the account)?

Yup. I'm working on 3 of them right now. If you plan to dabble in some MS it is good to do it out of a bank that you don't mind getting shut down.

Nope. I've read that datapoint on Reddit and FlyerTalk too.

Private Client doesn't even bypass anymore apparently. The banker offered to set up a private client appointment. I was like, "I'll just stay at Fidelity."

We were lucky and were able to get the CSR via Private Client before they closed that loophole.

This is awful! Thanks for letting me know. What is even the point of being a private client with them? They are awful.

Well, back then you could bypass 5/24 if you were a Chase Private Client. DH and I explored that option to get the CSR when it was first released. We were both 10/24 at the time and it would have taken 11 months to fall back under 5/24. Fortunately it worked out and that is how we were each able to get the CSR.

Haha. It’s not like it’s a promotion. I’m just trying to help out however I can.

Congratulations anyhow! :cheer2: You are always very helpful!

That's negotiable and so are the fees. Yes, it is available to immediate family members if they have a joint account. We did that for my mom.
