So..they are charging for parking...

Arghh, I like having a car because I have a 4 yr old and like having her in a car seat. I feel like Disney is nickel and diming me

I don't have children, but we prefer to drive. It's about 9-10 hours, but it's cheaper than flying. Or, I should say, it was. We like the freedom of having our own vehicle so we can go to other resorts for ADRs or drive ourselves to DS if we want. I feel the same way. They are literally starting to charge for every little thing. I know it's business, but Disney is one of the wealthiest corporations. They have millions of visitors per year. I'm pretty sure, even with all the construction, they aren't hurting for money. It's just getting to be so expensive that I'm not sure how much longer we will be able to go, which makes me sad because I sure would love for my future children to grow up loving Disney the way I did.

Yes.....
It appears to be backwards.
I blame the loosening of the drug laws for the abundance of such foolishness by Disney Management. :crazy2:
I bet that Disney thought that the restaurant and shopping business might be hurt by charging people to park just for a quick visit. I don't know why they couldn't validate though.

Maybe they want people to check it all out thinking that they might decide to stay at the resorts the next time they visit?

Just got the Mousesavers newsletter and was reading through it. Apparently the Hilton Buena Vista Palace in Disney Springs is offering a free parking promotion May 15 through Sept. 14. I wonder if Disney's decision to charge for parking had anything to do with their running this promotion? You get 60 day FP and extra magic hours there, too.

Just noticed your avatar. Very cool!

LOL, I made it after Disney announced the parking fees. I thought it was funny (although I'm completely serious in my hatred of the parking fees), but surprisingly you are the first person who noticed! Or, at least mentioned it.

Well I am not always quick on the uptake, but at least it finally dawned on me.

I agree with you, and we have stayed only DVC while staying on property for quite a few years so we won’t be making this contribution to disney. Resort parking fees are just another drop in the bucket to some people, but from my perspective there have been been many such previous drops. To continue the analogy, there’s a leak in the bucket too, again for me, with reduced hours, more rides with reduced capacity, reduced character interaction, and poorer dining offerings. I’ll deal with it all, until I don’t want to anymore.

I still like staying in Boardwalk view units. If disney ruins the international walkway entrance to Epcot with the gondolas, that may be the final drop.

The parking fees won't even affect my trip at the end of the month, I'm just stubborn. We booked it long ago so we'd be grandfathered in anyway, but we are flying and taking the ME. (No car.) I wanted to cancel on principle alone and go to the beach instead but hubby and kids resisted, LOL. You have to plan Disney trips so far in advance, it's impossible to plan around cheap flights. And we are a family of 5, so flying can be pricey. We like to leave our options open and fly if we find a good deal on flights and drive if we don't. We were originally planning to drive this trip. No way I will pay Disney to park my car when their room rates are already so inflated so driving and staying on site is now off the table for me.

We alternate driving and flying in too, although in 30 plus trips I have taken ME only twice because I like the freedom of renting a nice car and often have extended my trip with an offsite stay. I have paid parking fees at swan/dolphin and the Waldorf/Hilton bonnet creek resorts when I can get a great price. It seemed that Disney was including its parking fees in its inflated resort prices. And now they don’t. Game changer for me. Too many other great options that have better pool complexes as well as great locations.

I was told if you have a handicapped tag you still get complimentary valet parking. Is that true or has it changed?

I think I read on another parking thread that there is free parking with a handicapped tag but I am not sure about valet parking.
