Club level guests can buy more fast passes?

So much more. I don't like strangers. I would have done a VIP tour at some point in my WDW travels to do more rides faster, but hanging with a random stranger for the day makes me want to vomit. I have enjoyed the Keys to the Kingdom tour because of the knowledge of the leader, but I HATED the chatty people we were there. Now, if the VIP tour guides were as knowledgeable as the KTTK tour guides I would be on it. Based on all the experiences friends have had with VIP tours, I don't get the feeling that they are.

ETA: Maybe I just don't like people? Lol!

Well, yeah, people generally suck - that would be a downside. I would want to go solo that is for sure. One of my least favorite thing is chatting or *shudder* networking

Hopefully it will stay cl and become cheaper or free because no one will pay for it.... and hopefully because there is not enough FPP to pull out of regular circulation....

And my purchase price divided out over the length of the contract, per point comes to an extra 1.75 per point. However, if I sell them, this goes away, as does some of the maintenance fees, since the contracts are now selling for twice what I paid........smiley face. lol.

Oh I agree that's why I said "But yea" I paid effectively $68 / point for AKV. for 40 years, so about the same.

I mean, I agree that I wish this would be unpopular, and stay CL, but I don't see that happening. I vehemently believe this is just the soft introduction of pay to play FPs at WDW. Something people who were critical of FP+ saw coming a couple years ago, and people who were more supportive of it said wouldn't happen, I was involved in these conversations elsewhere, and the "Disney Do no Wrong" crew was adamant would never happen.

Now, some people can genuinely like this, and that's totally cool. People are all entitled to their opinions and their desired vacation styles, prices etc.

But I really encourage people to think long term on this, and how it will effect them. I am seeing lots of "Well this wont really effect me, I just wont pay for that" or "As long as I get my 3 Free FP" Despite not realizing the FPs all have to come from the same finite pool of available "rides" (as in number of times people can ride a ride per day), meaning for every extra FP+ booked, that means someone else isn't getting an FP, or someone is getting booted from Standby. A lot of other people are saying "well there aren't that many CL people" or "Not everyone in CL is going to pay for this", which is relatively true (though there are plenty of CL guests, and the first point still applies, they will be bumping other people, just not too many people I guess) ... but its not going to stay CL (though like you I wish it would) and if it doesn't stay CL well, then the whole ball game changes. 60 day FPs become second rate (if this doesn't make them that already), if you want a highly demanded FP, you are going to have to pay for it.

It doesn't have to be like that, Disney and other companies have changed their policies, their offerings many times, if their customers demand it.

Disney has opened the 60 Day FP window to more resorts = more people in the pool = longer FP lines
Disney now will offer some to purchase additional FP = more people in the pool = longer FP lines

So in the near future popular attractions will be 2+ hour lines and 45min to 1 hr FP lines. Not a good thing.

Yup, and again, move this sale beyond CL ... its going to get worse.

I realize it doesn’t help this year, but SWL, Tron, GOtG, Ratatouille.. will add a lot more FP+ slots to the system.

Just read this on WDWNT from the "Official" announcement. "This pilot program will not affect FastPass+ availability for Resort Guests booking at their normal 60-day window."

Wouldn’t that be impossible since Disney did one of two things
1 let more people in pool to try to get the allotted slots for a FP
2 Increase the number of slots available

So either it becomes harder to get the FP at the 60 day window or more people in the FP lines. I would say that affects guests in a negative way which ever way Disney slices it.

It will probably be a very small affect on the FP+ line since there are so few CL rooms but they didn't state it won't affect guest. They stated it won't affect fastpass availability.

Means they must be assigning more capacity to FP+ and taking from standby. Not really sure that's a good thing either.

I have to be careful when I take my husband to Disney. He hates waiting for rides and will just leave. My last trip I planned so well so he'd have a great time even though he said he wouldn't but he was going for me. Well he had a great time. The fast passes were what did it for him. He had so much fun that we're going in December 2018 for our 40th wedding anniversary. He asked me to go! This new possible feature sounds like it would be worth it to me. I wasn't planning on club level but now I will consider it. Is the rumor still specific resorts?

Sorry if I've missed it. We are thinking of buying the extra passes as we are on CL and going at Easter/Spring Break, has it been announced how we can do it yet?

I'm with you. It's fine to speculate that CL won't affect things too much but I can't imagine Disney stopping there. I think that FP+ will become harder to get which is why Disney decided to placate the Disney Springs resorts a bit. But until people decide that enough is enough there is no reason for Disney to stop. It'll be interesting to see what the endgame will be.

Well the original logic behind FP (at least according to Disney) was to get people to spend more time in the shops and less time standing in line. Not sure how charging for FPs (which we can all assume is Disney's endgame) will work. It stands too much the risk of guests turning it down on slow days due to the price. It could be a goldmine to Disney during the busiest days of the year though.

With Toy Story (2), SWL(2), Tron, GOtG, Ratatouille that’s theoretical 6(attractions)x1500(FP hourly capacity)x12 (hours/day)= 108,000 more FP+ a day..plus potentially 50k more for the MK theatre, so they are expanding the FP+ reservation pool while they are expanding the FP usage opportunities.
(And I think my capacity #’s are a conservative guess)

There was more to their logic than that, also keeping people in the parks longer (its why they are spaced across at least 3 hours), and also redirecting crowd traffic to less used rides. But yea, as far as increasing spending (which is part of keeping people in parks / out of lines) this should generally work, especially if / when they spread them to other resorts. Someone has done the math that: Sure, this might mean those other folks are standing in line longer or leaving the park earlier, and spending less. But on average that will lose us $25 / day, but since they are being replaced by someone paying $50 / day, we are winning here !

Keep in mind a lot of that Capacity is not yet online, but the increase in FP usage already is. Also, a lot of that doesn't actually ADD Capacity and certainly wont draw the big numbers of demand (I don't think people are going to be highly demanding of the spin ride at TSL for instance) Hollywood studios CLOSED a ton of capacity to make TSL ? SWGE I think there is a net increase, but I don't know what it actually is, its certainly not what you have represented above. Likewise, GotG is replacing a ride, though admittedly I think a very underused ride, so its kind of an increase in capacity in that sense. We are still like 3 years (or more) away from seeing TRON, but that is clearly an add in capacity (also something I am extremely excited for).

Overall moral of the story, I don't think the add in capacity is actually going to make up for the increased usage of FP+ at or before (thanks to paying customers at 90 days) 60 days. There is NO CHANCE this addition of capacity (such that it is) will keep up with the increased usage of FP+ by those with money if (when) they extend the ability to pay for more FP+s beyond Club Level

This is not accurate. The people staying in those "partner" resorts were previously able to make FP+ reservations at 30 days. The only thing that's changed is Disney gave them access at 60 days. It does not represent "more people in the pool" or longer FP lines. It just means they have the ability to secure their FPs 30 days sooner than before. (Which, truth be told, is only an issue for 3-4 attractions, if that.)

Exactly. We usually book night before or day of with very good selections (really just rarely FOP and 7DMT), although we do usually visit later in the day or evening, and that's onsite stays.

it's definitely a bit of a "chicken and egg" thing in that there definitely will be more FPs to be had (and even with the removal of attractions in DHS what is replacing them will be way more popular - like, more people would take a FP for Slinky Dog vs Tower of Terror than they would for Lights, Motors, Action!) - but a lot more people are coming just for the new attractions (or largely for them) so yeah, they are taking the new FP, but would they be there before taking "old" FP?

I think it will help with getting FP for things that are harder to get now, particularly in the parks impacted (Like, even just having Rat in EPCOT will make it easier for FAE or TT) but there will also be more people there that maybe haven't done Pandora yet so demand for FoP likely still will be high

Interesting times for sure
