I'm awful..... I would have said," Does it sound like I heard you??" Or just stared at her till she realized how bad that question come across.

Then I guess I'm awful too. I would have likely said the same thing and made it clear that her tone wasn't appreciated and maybe she should check it for the next paying customer she encounters.

Yeah, we all have bad days at work, but you have to be an adult and control your funky attitude, especially if you choose to work in customer service.

Ugh, people like this should be sentenced to work for a year in a low pay, customer facing role. Preferably at a busy fast food restaurant or retail store with lots and lots of merchandise. Then maybe they'll get why their clever quips are not all that clever. I was in college but working at Subway for some spending money, some older dude made a similar quip to his children. I said I was actually in school full time, only to hear him respond "For what, to learn how to manage the SUB-way?" like no matter what, they decided someone in a fast food job (who is making the food he's about to eat) are beneath him.

I was eating at a nice restaurant in NYC one time and smiled to hear a little girl very sweetly thank the server for her food only to have my jaw drop when her mother said "Oh you don't have to thank her. That is her job." Could not believe a child was being scolded for being polite.

Not making excuses, but there will always be those on one end of the bell curve. :)

Bummer to hear about your experience. Hope your trip is going fantastic otherwise.

Dan

I wonder...

How many people officially complain about the one in 30 years rude Cast Member vs. officially commend the one in each trip who really stands out?

You make a great point, unfortunately a lot of people won't go out of their way to give positive feedback for great service as it's generally just expected. I always make it my mission to contact customer service for outstanding CM encounters, especially since Disney does a great job of acknowledging those employees who receive compliments.

Yay! I'm glad I'm not alone. It feels so good to give positive feedback it is always worth taking a few minutes out of your day to do so!

I understand it's annoying but is saying "did you not hear what I just said" really so bad that you want to mess up her life?

I think I would just let it go.
Well clearly the person did not hear what she just said or she wouldn’t have asked so this is a completely inappropriate answer for the CM to give. “mess up her life” might be a little dramatic. BUT, if it does, her behavior is what messed it up, not the OP reporting it. If we tolerate poor customer service & bad behavior, it’ll never change or will get worse.

Her response was “Did you not hear what I just said?”.

And what did you say?

Did you say “no, your microphone is garbled and we cannot understand what you are saying; thought you oughta know.”?

I hope you did because that would be helpful for her.

When we got there, the CM letting PPO people in absolutely laid into us for scanning our tickets at the "wrong" entrance. When I asked if he would like us to go back and re-scan somewhere else, he completely ignored us and started yelling at the family behind us. Meanwhile, people were just simply walking in that entrance because this CM was too busy yelling at people to even monitor the entrance. Since he was yelling at others at that point, we just walked inside.

:)

Sounds like a TSA agent at mco. So busy yelling and doing a bitter spiel about not leaving our stuff on the conveyor before we were ready to go through the machines that he paid no attention to the fact that his fellow agents were in fact yelling at us to leave our stuff on the conveyor to go through the machines before our bags.

Perhaps he switched careers.

I think it would all depend on tone.

If it were me, I would have probably said something like, "nobody heard what you just said because you sound like you are underwater through that high-tech PA system you have there. now repeat yourself"

Yes, this!!! Or they're yelling at you (and the people in front of you) to get it off at the end when someone in front of you has caused a bottleneck and you haven't been able to get through the scanner yet.

I try to go out of my way and send a #CastCompliment on Twitter for every CM that I come across that goes above or beyond, or even makes me smile just a little more. It's pretty cool to see them get rewarded a few days later with a certificate and photo recognition on Twitter from the WDWToday Twitter account - I hope that the small gesture means as much to them as their actions did to me.

just experienced my first nasty CM in 30 years of visits to WDW. We were entering Epcot, but wanted to take a quick monorail ride to the GF to see the Christmas decor. She was taking.theough some microphone, but her words were garbled. I walked over and asked her if I needed to have my bag checked to get on the monorail. Her response was “Did you not hear what I just said?”. I don’t expect this from Disney. When I get back there in a short while, I’m getting her name to include it on the guest survey. I spend too much $ to come here and be treated that way.

I think you are being passive/aggressive at this point. Why didn't you address the situation as it happened? And what does how much money you have spent have to do with it? Are you supposed to pay a lot for certain treatment? And if you don't pay a lot, you should get lousy treatment?

BTW, you didn't really need to ask if you had to get your bag checked - did you see a way to the monorail from the entrance to EPCOT? If you can't see a way through without bag check, (like a big sign that says "Monorail Entrance") then of course you have to go through bag check.

How do you know they took it out on every guest that came their way? OP gave their version of one single event, doesn't mean it happened to every guest that CM came across.

Perhaps re-read my post and which post I was responding to. I was speaking in general terms and wasn't referring to OP's specific experience. Wow, you sound just like a MK PPO entrance CM I once encountered . . .

The only truly bad CM I ever encountered was at Matterhorn in Disneyland. As the bobsled comes around to the station the CM was saying something but it's loud and none of us heard her. So we get to the platform and the car is stopped, so we try to stand up and she got all eye rolly and was like "I guess English is hard to understand". My jaw seriously dropped. I almost went to City Hall but decided maybe she was just having a really bad day

I have learned many things since my husband passed away at very young age of 31. Let me just say that you never can know what someone is going through on any given day. The CM's are human, just as you and I, and honestly they put up with so much garbage on a daily basis that once in a while they might have a moment. My girls, 15 and 13, and myself are seriously amazed at how people treat the CM's and we have gone out of our way to try and just give a warm and pleasant greeting to them when we are there. I am truly sorry to the OP that they experienced a gruff CM, who may or may not operate this way on a daily basis, but in all reality take it with a grain of salt and be loving to them. You might be surprised at how they react when someone is actually kind to them.
