Post-Night Stay Waitlist

I wanted to add a post-night stay to the Backstage Magic ABD, but they say the allotment is full, and they will put me on the waitlist. What are my chances of having this request fulfilled?

I've never heard of this. Have you considered booking the post night on your own? If you can't get into the trip hotel it is Disneyland and there are lots of good neighbour hotels that you could easily transfer to one of them for the night. I know people from my trip did that. Why pay the high price of the Disney hotels when you can pay half the price at one of the good neighbour hotels.

@scothen We are thinking about and hoping to book a post night stay for Backstage Magic next summer. Still trying to put the pieces together. Our travel agent did tell us that they do "book up," at times. How far out from your trip are you?

My trip is coming up in February.

I have checked prices directly, and the ABD rate is much less.

Thanks everyone.

That's interesting, because when I tried to add an extra pre-night to my Iceland ABD, I was told flat out there was no availability and no waitlist was offered. I guess the Disneyland Hotels are a *bit* more flexible than Icelandair!

Personally, I'd make other (refundable) arrangements, and then if you get the ABD add-on before the other hotel's cancellation date, consider it a bonus!

For our NYC ABD trip we tried to book two pre nights and were waitlisted. About one week later we were notified by our DU TA that we got everything booked. So in our case our waitlist came through quickly and this was about 3 months prior to our trip when we booked it. We had already made alternative hotel reservations just in case something didn't come through for us.

Sayhello, I was told the same thing by ABD, but I was able to add an extra pre-night by contacting the hotel directly.

Thanks, @BluesTraveler, I did that, too. But in my case, it was cheaper to do it that way, so it was a no brainer, since I was able to keep my transfers. The OP has the issue that it's more expensive for him to book directly with the hotel. :) How often does *that* happen?

Good thing you kept your transfers for it is quite expensive to transfer from the airport to the hotel in Reykjavik.

When we did the Montana/Canada trip, we wanted to spend an extra post-night in Banff and were told there was no availability. Supposedly we were on a waiting list, but when it came time to book our flights, I simply contacted our travel agent and said we've decided to skip the post night. We booked all pre-nights for this Adventure on our own.

I know! Plus, the transfers include a stop at the Blue Lagoon, with the Premium package! I was glad to find out I'll be keeping that benefit, too!

You're going to love the Blue Lagoon. One thing they have "shower police" where they will not allow you to enter the pool unless you shower. Now THAT is serious. lol.

I asked my TA how much an extra pre-night at the Icelandair hotel would be and she quoted me a rate that was $200.00 more than the price if I booked direct. She then told me that I would lose my transfer if I booked the hotel myself. The TA also told me that we would be responsible to get to the Blue Lagoon on our own the next morning but that we could take the ABD transfer back to the hotel. To be honest I have a thing about public pools (and showers -- I just can't do them) so I am not sure if I would be able to do the Blue Lagoon.

We are looking at taking a day-time flight to Iceland direct from Toronto as opposed to a 5 hour overnight flight (where I'd be lucky to get 3.5 hours of sleep). So o the pre-night makes sense to me.

Is it really worth it? I don't know if I could handle it. Public pools, to me, are cesspools of germs. Add dozens of strangers to the mix with who knows what kinds of infections, warts, fungi, etc. and I don't think I'd be able to enjoy it at all (this is a hangup of mine -- luckily we've always had our own pool and jacuzzis at home so I've never felt the need to go to public swimming / bathing areas).

I was thinking about walking around town in the morning and enjoying a nice lunch. Thoughts?

I'd already booked a pre-night through ABD, and decided to add a second pre-night so I could have a full day in Reykjavik. It was the second night they couldn't acommodate, so they told my TA to have me book the second night on my own, and let them know what the reservation # was so they could link them, and that I would keep the transfers. So that might be why my answer was different from yours? :confused3

Reykjavik is a very cool city, and the harbor area is very fun to walk around. Lots of shopping and such, plus you could go up to the top of Hallgrímskirkja church for a great view of the town. I'm not sure about the lunch thing, because I walked around trying to find a nice dinner on a Friday evening, and couldn't find a table anywhere! They had a hopping night life going on! So I ended up in a curry place. :) But I'm sure you could find a nice place if you do some research. I'm thinking of doing a food walking tour...

I'd heard that!

When you see the water in the Blue Lagoon it looks like skim milk. I was told it is so full of minerals that that is the color the water is naturally. The pools are used to heal many ailments and it is quite refreshing after you visit. The pools are quite large and they limit the number of bathers. IMO it is "one of those things" you have to experience while in Iceland. There is a large room with many chairs and tables that overlook the pool(s) and also an outdoor patio where you can also sit and people watch.

I'm with you. I have a very hard time getting into people soup! I made it about 5 minutes in the hot springs pool in Ouray, CO this summer, but when some hair floated by, I was outta there! We are going to try the Blue Lagoon, because it is so iconic - and because we are paying for it either way- but I'll be very proud of myself if I actually manage to enjoy it!

We were on the fence of whether to do the Blue Lagoon this summer. I don't have an aversion to public swimming pools per se, it's just not my thing. We ended up doing it as a family, and I thought it was great. It was the most memorable thing we did in Iceland (on our DCL cruise). It's a pain, because you have to shower prior and get all the kids to shower... and the air was so cold going in and getting out. But I thought it was worth it. I was also impressed with how controlled the crowds were. I expected more people in the lagoon. It was so relaxing. It's very surreal. The water is almost the color of skim milk as mentioned and you're surrounded by the most inhospitable terrain. It's like going to the spa on the moon. I don't want to convince anyone that does have an aversion to public swimming. There's definitely a lot of people swimming around there. But overall, I thought it was a great experience.

Tips - there are photographers (sitting outside the lagoon) there that will take your picture with iPads in the lagoon... you have to look for them. They email them to you for free. Some of my favorite pics. Also, be sure to use the conditioner in your hair or whatever you feel is necessary before and after the lagoon. The mineral content is off the charts. There are also numbered hooks outside in front of the lagoon that you can hang up your towel or robe. The numbers correspond to your locker if I remember correctly.

I have been e-mailing with my vacationista about this and she's been very helpful. We are arriving late Thursday night for our Iceland trip which begins on Saturday. She confirmed that ABD would transfer us from the airport to the hotel on Thursday, and from the hotel to the Blue Lagoon on Saturday. ABD booked us the Friday pre-night, and I booked the Thursday pre-night myself directly with the hotel.
