What do you mean about the "magic fountains 9:30 show" ? Since we'll be there, it may be something we'd like to see too!

I think I just finished our magnets. FE are half done. Tshirts are about to be printed to iron-on. And I have no clue what we are going to do in Barcelona. Any suggestions for a family of four?? :confused3

I think we want to get a T10 and use the metro as we are staying by Placa Catalunya and arriving Thursday morning. I'd like to see the main attractions. I need help. This is the only part of the trip I am still unsure of. I have pulled this from others I have read online. Overkill? Crazy with kids? (And you remember I'm the one who loves hiking and sleeping in tents...)

Day 1 - Thursday - Gaudi
Arrive about 7:30 AM, Aerobus to hotel, hopefully drop off bags
Some sort of food
metro to Sangrada Familia!
Then to a market to get lunch and onto Parc Guell - metro stop Lesseps and bus 24
then bus 24 or metro Diagonal, walk down Passeig de Gracia and see Casa Mila and Casa Batello
My guess is we will be exhausted then, check in, shower, nap.
Dinner: Ciutat Comtal - TripAdvisor top 30 restaurants, great tapas and house wine apparently. Go early since we have kiddos.

Day 2 - Friday
Walk to Las Ramblas
see Palau Guell
shop at the market -Mercat Boqueria
Visit the Placa reial
then Hard Rock 6:30, after dinner up to the magic fountains for 9:30 show, metro Espanya and then walk up the road

Saturday:
Show up at port early to see who the heck chartered the Magic on Sept 3
No seriously... 10:30-11:00 port arrival time is what we have.

I'm one of the cruisers who is arriving in Barcelona on the 10th. Please wish us safe flights, on time, no troubles. Remember that some people are barely able to get time off for the cruise without adding extra days. Sure, I'd have enjoyed spending some time in Barcelona, but that just wasn't possible.

Wish us luck.

It will all be fine!

Everyone's flights will arrive on time, with all luggage intact, and there will be no hurricanes, tropical storms, or anything other than perfect weather from the time we all leave home til we arrive back, safe and sound.

We Fairy Godmothers will take care of that!

In case you forgot or didn't know: We are doing traveling magnets. Make your own, stick it on a DISers door, they'll sign it and move it along. You'll get it back at the end of the cruise. Put your name somewhere on it, front or back.

Are we agreed that we can have lots of roaming magnets, then? Everyone can have their own?

"what do you all think of people doing them having different characters on them? that way we can see how many different characters we can see and sign? i'm working on either a normal mickey or captain mickey one."

Here's our magnet. I got it from Vistaprint. It's kind of big - like 8"x10" so there will be plenty of space to sign.

Stitchmagnet-1.jpg

Should we send a pen around with the magnet so everyone has something to sign with?

Do you mean instead of ordering ahead? Hmmm... that could work. They don't have a store in Orlando, but they have locations at the airport. Is there a difference between airport locations and "stores"? This may be a stupid question, but do they usually have the currency on hand? We have to wait 2 or 3 days to get it from the bank.

We'd still have to make an extra trip to MCO after we get back from the cruise. We're only flying to Barca from there. We're driving to Orlando and back home again. But I guess that could be done.

Most airports have major currencies on hand and Euros for sure. Agree that if you exchange the $1000 without fees that would be good. You could probably use the extra Euros toward your bill on the ship or exchange them back when you get back to MCO. Rates in airports tend to be okay, not horrible. Better than on the street at exchange booths. I know I have said this before, but ATMs tend to have the best rates, so if you don't want that much in Euros (700), you should consider just using your ATM card in Barcelona airport. Just be sure and let the bank know. I feel like I sound like a broken record, but all this talk about how people use their ATM cards in America, you can do the same in all the parts of Europe we will go on this trip so you can get cash for those places that don't take cards.

HA thanks, yes I'm living live on the edge with this one. I think a few people are flying the morning of the 10th

Sept 10 out of London City at 7a

Not sure what your plans for the 10th are but I'm organising an airport to port transfer for the 10th, leaving airport at 11.45am, should be at the port at 12.15pm ish. It's 10 euros per person. Still got two spaces left. Let me know if you're interested

Goodmorning all,
I was planning to read the dis and then go in my garden to mowing the grass. But it is raining again here. It was such lovely weather once, but it is not last long. I hope I can do it this afternoon.

Count me as one of the Paris fans! It is truly one of the world's great cities.
I am reading a cookbook called Paris Sweets by Dorie Greenspan and I now realize that there are so many wonderful patisseries that I did NOT visit in Paris. She gives recipes from the best patisseries in the city and then writes a little about each place....it really makes you want to go to every single one in the book!

I was impressed at how the Eiffel Tower really got to me. I thought it would be really touristy and just another thing to see, but it was thrilling to see it - especially at night when they do the sparkly lights.

I think it would be helpful. Maybe for security reasons we could just post people's screen names w/ their room #'s so nobody would know who was in the room or not unless they took the time to cross-reference. Anyhow, it would be nice to have some people's room #'s so you could catch up w/ them on the cruise if you missed them at one of the events.

just my 2 cents!

I agree, the best way to get over jet lag is to get out in the sun and walk around - don't push it too much, get an early dinner (not so easy in Spain) and hit the pillow around 8 or 9 :thumbsup2

I love those Boqueria juices. They have every fruit flavor you could dream up. Here are some Boqueria Market photos w/ one of the juices stands at the top:

I guess I'm in a picture mood tonight!

What a lovely pictures. The Eifel tower by night is a special sight. But it is only once per hour. We were on the tower last year when the lights begun to sparkle.

And the Boqueria I must see now I have seen your pictures. I cann't remember this anymore, but I went there some 10 years ago.

"can't tell you how many people I saw sitting there crying because they were going to miss their cruise....."

gee, we're leaving Boston on the 6th - think we're playing it safe!!!! :rotfl2:

Josh, you sound just like some of my daughters - gotta take the chance!

Thanks for the pixy dust!! London would be the coolest city to me to get stuck in. Knock on wood it won't happen but if the plane ain't leaving I won't be crying. I'm ever the optimist. I'd go cross Abbey road :-D

Most young people are the same. My son would do so too, but he is with me and I want to go earlier to Barcelona. That's why we leave on thursdayevening.
But you all get in time at the port. There are going so much flights to Barcelona.

What do you mean about the "magic fountains 9:30 show" ? Since we'll be there, it may be something we'd like to see too!

This is what I found on the site of the magic fountains
The Font Màgica de Montjuïc invites you to come along to an exceptional show of music and color.

Spring - summer: from May to September
Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday: from 9.00 pm to 11.30 pm
Show times with music: 9.00 pm, 9.30 pm, 10.00 pm, 10.30 pm and 11.00 pm

Good to remember me about it. I thougt I was ready with my magnets. (I made a few) but I was forgotten about the traveling one. Can I print it on photopaper, can you write on that, or give that spots.

Well just 3 weeks today and we will be waking up on our first sea day. :cool1:
I hope it will be a calm sunny one and we can all enjoy walking the decks and enjoying all that the Magic has to offer. Relaxing, sitting and enjoying a coffee, relaxing. Ahhhhhhhhhh.

(Off to have a minor panic attack now!:scared1:)

The Santa Maria departs from the same dock that we will be at. It is a five minute walk from The Magic to there berth. You can reserve online at that link and pay and pick up at the dock. Let me know which tour your decide on. Sarah and her DH and me and my DH and DD will be on the morning tour departing at 10:30.

Thanks,
Nickole

hi, we have also booked the 10.30 tour, we booked through the link that sarah put on here and got our email back straight away cant wait it looks great

I found this out the hard way. Many US credit cards add an overseas transaction fee (can be $1 to $3 depending)! In fact, only 1 of my 4 cards didn't (Capital One). So check with your bank before choosing which card to use, or get a new one that has no fees. The fees really added up, especially if you don't want to carry cash, and use the card for lots of small purchases.

Hope that helps! :thumbsup2

Don't worry Josh there are quite alot of us arriving on the 10th if my memory serves me right there are at least 14 on airport transfer taxi plus others using dcl transfers. 2 weeks was as much as we could take from work as we are self employed otherwise would loved to have arrived a few days earlier.

Liesbeth, we used a matt magnetic paper to print our roaming magnet on because we found that even permanent markers don't write on the glossy ones.

Sept 10 out of London City at 7a

Gosh I am so confused. I want to take the virgin train from the Manchester Airport to London Euston on Sept 7th. It says it is from Manchester Piccadilly station. Does anyone know if this will stop at the airport or do I have to find a way to this station? I keep reading and reading but I genuinely can't figure it out. :confused3. Any help Is very appreciated.

Don't know if you have had any help with this yet but my understanding is that Virgin trains start their journey in Manchester Piccadilly. This isn't too much of a problem as other local services run from Manchester airport directly to Manchester Piccadilly usually taking about 15 minutes. Piccadilly is quite a big station so allow plenty of time to transfer between trains.

Have you looked on www.thetrainline.com? It's a great site to book trains in the UK as it deals with all services and discounts.

Just re-read my post and still not sure if I was clear . . . you need to get a different train from Manchester airport to Manchester Piccadilly to pick up the Euston service. . . . PM if you need more info . . .
